CHAPTER 10

After Semeli left, Damien followed her in her room but he stayed by the door. He heard what she said to the little girl and his heart broke even more. Only now he understood that she was indeed protecting Lily, she didn't want any trouble even though she caused so many. Someone must have hurt her really bad, that scarred her forever. He felt mad, mad to himself because he didn't realize that behind her mask, his mate was in pain. He should have asked her the first time what was wrong and he should have put that b***h in her place at the dinner. But now it was too late. He knows he missed his chance to prove to his mate that he is not ruthless, he cares, he cares about her.

He heard the window opening and he knew where she was heading. He went to his room and follow her scent. Soon after he found her siting on the roof staring at the sky.

“Can’t sleep,” he said softly.

Speak of the devil she thought. She didn't reply, she stayed still watching the sky. She felt him moving closer to where she was sitting but she didn't turn to look at him.

“Came to finish what you started Alpha Damien” she whispered, with no emotions lacing her voice.

Damien flinches from her words and internally scowls his wolf for hurting their mate. He stopped moving and stared at the beauty in front of him, the light of the moon illuminating her soft skin. He wanted to touch her so bad but then his eyes landed on the wound he created. His face fell.

“Why are you here Alpha Damien?” she asked with her eyes closed. He sighs and sits closer to her. He moves his hand to touch her but she flinches away. Her eyes shot wide open and looked red.

“Our mate was crying, she is sad because of us. Please do something. Anything” his wolf screamed inside his head with sorrow and regret.

“D-Dont touch me” she whispered her voice so low, if he wasn't a werewolf he would not be able to hear her but he did and it broke his heart of how broken her voice sounded.

His eyes softened and his wolf was whimpering.

“I am sorry” he whispered but she didn't move. After a couple of minutes of silent, she wiped her eyes to prevent more tears from falling.

“Tomorrow morning if you are still interested, we will sign the treaty and by lunch we will be long gone. I am taking Lily with me, this will be one of the rules of the contract. I wont let her behind to become the punching bag of your ruthless pack members.” she whispered with venom lacing her soft voice.

Damien’s eyes grew wide. She is leaving, his mate is leaving because of him. He wont allow it.

“NO” he growled. And made a move to go closer to her. She flinched and move her body away from him.

His wolf, James, was howling in pain inside Damien's head.

“It’s late, I am not planning to stay and argue with you. Treaty or not, Lily will come with me even if I have to go into war with you to get to her” she said sternly and with so much determination.

“Why do you care so much about her?” he asked in frustration.

“Because someone has to” she answered back

“I do” he sigh

“No you don’t” she whispered yell

“If you really cared about her you wouldn't allow some b***h to harm her everyday and make her feel less of herself and unworthy. She is just a child, she needs love, to feel protected. ” she continued.

Damien sensed that this was something bigger and not about Lily

“Who hurt you?” he asked sincerely

“Like you care” she spat back while placing her palms on the ground to lift her body up. He stood up as well and grabbed her by her waist gently, not allowing her to leave him. He felt the sparks when his hands touched her waist and by looking at her, he knew she felt them too.

“Please don't live tomorrow, just give me a week. And then after the week has passed you can leave with Lily if you still want to” He whispered near her ear and she felt her body melting under him.

She wanted to leave but now she wasn't sure. She didn't like the way he affects her but something inside her wanted to stay. Alpha Damien confuses her and clouds her judgment when she is near him.

But she wanted to stay more, maybe take the time to persuade Lily to leave with her and also inform her dad about her plan and if everything goes well, he will finally have the grandchild he always dreamed of.

Damien unwillingly moves his body to give her some space and examine her expressions. She seemed to be thinking about his proposal. He hopes that he can persuade her to stay longer but a week is all he can get for now.

“Fine, just a week,” she said and he smiled.

“But if any of your pack members harm Lily or Sam in any way I will not hesitate to take matters into my own hands and then go to war with you and your pack if I have to.” she stated clearly and he sighs in defeat. She will be the end of him, he thought but as long as she is here, he is willing to try and make amends with her.
