I revived the engine providing race once, twice, thrice, "READY?" the girl in the front called out to all the racers we all gave a nod.
"Set...GO!" She yelled and dropped the red piece of cloth and I took off. Whenever I drive all that's around me is forgotten, it's just me, the bike and the wind blowing by nothing else mattered.
The race went on the crowd were cheering, hopping for their favourite to win laps went by it was the final lap. I, Cam and another guy were almost neck to neck the guy side track causing them to swerve, and I passed the Finish line with Cam following, the crowd erupted in cheers and came rushing towards us.
"That was a great race." Matt came running picking me off the ground and swirling me around causing me to break Out into a fit of giggles. I loved this, it reminded me of my dad, he used to do this every time he won a race.
"My turn, my turn." yelled Nate, after getting a pat on the back and good wishes. The guys went ahead to talk about the next races, I stood there looking around and saw Cam leaning on this bike with a scowl on his face. What got his panties in a twist? I raced, and we qualified. My thoughts were interrupted when I heard a voice,
"You know there is nothing sexier than a girl who can race." Tristan spoke from behind me. Not wanting to get in a brawl I started walking ahead, when a hand reached out to grab me. I turned around with a scowl.
"I'm going to count until three, and if you don't let go, I will kick your ass." I threatened.
"Feisty, I see." he said, I was a about to punch his face when.
"I would leave her hand if I were you." Cam said from beside me.
"What are you going to do about it Anderson." Tristan's spat.
"Bennett drop the hand or I'll make you." Cam threatened. He didn't leave my hand, and a first came flying towards Tristan's face, and he dropped my hand staggering holding his nose. He stood ground and punched back and in a few seconds it was a brawl. I tried to get them apart but was unable to.
"Stay away or you will regret it" Cam said with gritted teeth. Tristan's goons came running, the brothers as well breaking them apart.
"You take her home, we'll handle it here." Nate said to Cam. Cam took my hand any dragged me with him. I snatched my hand from his.” I could have handled him back there, you didn't have to come to my rescue, I don't freaking need a knight in a shinning armour." I yelled. There is one thing I learned since my father passed, 'Never rely on anyone, fight your own battles before the demons take over.' He turned his face to look at me. He was frowning, he had a busted lip and a black eye his knuckles were bruised and bloody causing me to gasp at the sight. I have been in fights and seen all but never because of me, have I seen anyone hurt, it made me feel guilty.
"Look, you don't know the kind of guy Tristan is, he's someone to stay away from." he said and climbed on his bike. I just stood there gawking like an i***t, thinking maybe I was a bit harsh. He was just trying to help.
"You coming or not?" he said breaking my thoughts, passing me his helmet. I shook my head getting rid of the thoughts
"You really think I'm the one who needs a helmet?" I asked with a raised eyebrow. He just shrugged, I hopped on the bike and he hung the helmet in the front.
"Hold on tight." he yelled and started the bike. I held onto his torso feeling his muscles through his shirt. The wind blew my hair as we passed house by house, I closed my eyes liking the calmth of the night and put my head against his back. A few minutes later, the bike stopped.
I lifted my head up, we weren't home we were on what seemed like a cliff. "What are we doing here? Shouldn't we be going home? you need to get fixed up." I asked confused pointing to his face.
He just shrugged his shoulders and stepped off the bike. He started walking and sat close to the edge and I followed him and sat next to him leaving a little space in between. The sight was beautiful, the sky was dark with twinkling stars, one could look over the whole city from here. It was calm, peaceful full.
We sat there quiet for a while when he spoke first. "Where did you learn to race like that?" I thought should I tell him about my racing, my dad. I just felt like I could trust him.
"Well mm my dad, he used to race. He kind of taught me to race when I was 8, that was also the first time I sat on a bike. (I smiled at the memory), but after he passed away I continue to learn, I made friends started to get better, and here I am." I said shrugging my shoulders.
"What about you?" I asked turning to him, he thought for a few seconds before replying. "A couple of years back I saw Nate and Andrew seeking out one night. I was a curious kid, so I hid in their car, and we stopped at a racing track I saw them race and wanted to do it and I just did."
We sat there talking about stuff here and there, we were getting along, he isn't always cocky it's like he's a new person, no crude remarks or anything just then his phone rang.
"Hello." he received. "Yeah I'm fine, yes she's with me. Yeah we're coming." he said and hung up.
We didn't realise it was almost morning the sun was about to come up it was amazing. "Nate called. We should head home." he said.
I nodded my head and got on the bike behind him. The ride back was quiet, I still can't think he's the same guy who tried to drown me well not on purpose anyway, the same guy who act all high and mighty. We stopped in the driveway. "Thanks." I muttered before going inside the house. Nate was sitting on the couch in the living room. What's he still doing up? "You okay? " he asked once he spotted me.
"Yeah, I'm fine. just tired. I should probably go to bed." I said and he nodded his head and let me pass.
I went to my room changed into my nightwear flopped on the bed and fell fast asleep.
