Sometimes people mean good and good only. Their intentions might be pure and only hoping to help someone. Sometimes however, they can cause more harm than the help that they might deliver.
Trying to protect your people might being harm to other. However, if you truly think that it is worth it, be prepare
“Yoo what’s up! I am Andrey, but I go by Haiden” the other one spoke, introducing himself. Shortly however, he was cut off by our professor.
“Alright, looks like you guys beat me to it, but I would like to introduce our new student who will be joining us, Ella. Would you like introducing yourself ?”
“Sure” I said standing up. “Hi everyone. I am Ella Joseph. I am 19 and majoring in business and economics”
I heard a few ‘hey’s and ‘hi’s before sitting back down again and the professor went on starting the lesson. One girl even yelled “I love your hair” and I recognized her from her skirt. I had complimented her on that earlier. She had me smiling along with everyone in here.
I am going to be honest, I barely had time to think about what the new college would be like, be whatever my mind imagined, I can promise you that it was not this. Least I expected was some Regina George action.. I gld come" she explained as we all made our way out of the classroom.
"I can't" I automatically answered.
It's just something I have grown used to. Always say no, even if I can and want.
"Uhm.. I promised to baby sit my neighbours daughter. I always babysit her" I replied hoping she takes it.
"Oh come on, just one night. I'm sure they will survive, anyway if you change your mind. You now have my number. I'll send you the details and you make up your mind later" she said grabbing my phone and writing down her number.
“Okay, thanks”
“Wanna grab lunch with us ?” She asks as I nod, agreeing.
“I would love to”
We made our way to the cafeteria and sat down along with Keven, Andrea, Haiden, and Nick.
“You’re Ella, eh ?”
“So he speaks” I blurt out when finally hearing Nick’s voice, causing the rest to laugh out loud. He was surprisingly social. He made a few funny comments each now and then causing us to laugh. Overall he seemed like a cool dude, a bit of an ego but go him I guess. After lunch, a few conversations about nothing and everything, we started heading towards our lockers.
“I am guessing that Kayla told you about tonight ?” Keven asked as we walked behind everyone, as we all wouldn’t fit in the corridor.
“The party you mean ?” I ask as he nods.
“Yeah, I don’t think I can make it though”
“Why not ? Is it anything that we can help with ?”
“Uhm.. I already told Kayla, I gotta babysit my neighbours daughter. I always babysit her”
He turned quiet for a few seconds, not doing much apart from looking me in the eyes and thinking as if he was trying to figure something out.
"Ella, let's go grab a coffee"
"Don't you have class ?" I asked confused as he stopped, but the rest of the group kept walking in front of us.
"It can wait. Let's go, guys anyone want coffee ? Me and Ella gonna grab some” he excused us from everyone before we left.
"Uhm.. sure" I say as he leads us outside and to the cafeteria.
"You are new in town, right ?" he asked, before we headed inside, making us stop near the entrance. I would be lying if I said I did not feel anxious. I took a deep breath however and tried keeping it all under control.
"Yeah" I smile, attempting to sound as normal as possible. I could feel my heart beating faster in my chest, but I kept telling myself that I have this under control. Fake it till you make it I guess.
"So, why move out here ?"
"Just needed a fresh start" I say.
"With a little sister ?"
“Anything wrong with that?”
“I mean.. kind of odd” he said and goddamn he sounds like an asshole right now, and you know what? I am done trying to please the asshole.
"What is it that you are after, Keven ?"
"I do not know actually. Why don’t you tell me. New girl and now all the sudden you have always been babysitting your neighbours kid ? You want a fresh start, so you move to New York and drag your little sister with you ? Your story does not add up, Joseph" he said, calling me by my surname which for some reason made my heart beat even faster, not in fear though. In anger.. who does he think he is to come here and make assumptions about me and my life, trying to figure it out as if it was some game or puzzle to him.
"Fine, you want the truth ? My parents died. I am the legal guardian of my little sister and the only one she has left. We moved out here because I needed a new start after finding my parents dead. Happy ?" I snap, before letting out a breath and walking away.
"ELLA WAIT" he yells.
"What ?"
"I am sorry. Really. This was all on me. I need to control my trust issues and stop thinking that everyone here just wants to hurt us"
"Why would you even think that ?"
"It's a long story. Again, I'm sorry. Please. New page ?"
I look away, taking another deep breath before looking back at him. I could not stay angry, especially not with him and his sister. They were too glad, the screamed joy and positivity. No way in hell that I am going to be the one who affects that negatively.
"Only if you keep quiet about this and never mention it"
"Hell I'll even buy you a coffee to seal the promise"
"Deal" I smile as we make our way inside and grab two cups of coffee.
Goddamn that was a whole emotional rollercoaster huh? At least though, this whole fake it til you make it thing might actually be working with miss anxiety over here huh...
