Chapter 10

Drake's Pov

We arrive at the beach party and it is already in full swing. We find a parking spot and make our way down to the beach. I can't keep my eyes of Nicole. She looks breathtaking in that dress. And her scent is intoxicating. It is driving my wolf crazy. As we reach the beach, the girls start talking to some of their friends.

I touch Nicole's back to get her attention to ask her what she would like to drink. When our skin makes contact I feel sparks running up my hand into my arm, but Nicole jumps forward breaking the contact. I look at my hand in shock and disbelief, then I look at her and shake the thoughts from my head.

"Sorry I did not mean to scare you. I just wanted to know if you would like something to drink?"

"No it's fine I just felt a little shock that I did not expect. I would like any form of a cocktail and if there are no cocktails I will just take a beer."

I turn to Aiden and say. "Let's go get us some drinks."

Aiden nods his head and we walk off to the table with all the drinks. When we reach the table I turn to Aiden again and ask him.

"Do you smell anything different about Nicole tonight?"

"No she just smells like Nicole to me, but she does look great in that dress."

I growl slips out of me before I realize what I am doing.

Aiden lifts his hand in surrender. "Calm down it was just a compliment. What is going on with you tonight?" Aiden asks looking at my with concern.

"I don't know. My wolf is really agitated which is making me on edge. Maybe it is due to your Blue Super Moon."

"Well we are in public among humans so you had better get a hold of yourself."

"Yes, I know let's just get the drinks and go back to the girls."

I get a beer for myself and some sort of watermelon mixer cocktail for Nicole. While Aiden takes two beers for him and his sister. Then we walk back to the girls. As we walk back, I look at Nicole, she looks so bright and happy talking and laughing with her friends. When Nicole sees me walking up to her, she turns to me and gives me one of her big bright smiles.

I hand her cocktail to her, our hands graze and I feel the sparks again. "Here you go, it is some kind of watermelon mixer cocktail."

She takes a sip and her smile goes even bigger. "It tastes great, thank you."

I scratch the back of my neck and ask her. "Do you want to go for a walk so we can talk?"

She nods her head and we start walking away from everyone towards the water. Nicole takes off her sandals and holds them in one hand while she walks with her feet in the water.

"I love the ocean, it can be so calm and chaotic all at once." She says while looking out over the ocean.

I study her and her expressions when I ask. "Have you always lived near the ocean?"

She smiles and looks back at me. "No, I grew up in a town about three hours away. My parents still live there, but I have always been drawn to the ocean, so when I met Abby and she told me about her hometown, I had no doubt in my mind that this is where I wanted to live. What about you? Where did you grow up?"

"Well I was born and raised in Blackwater, Abby's hometown. I had no other choice but to take over the family business after my father died, but I would not have it any other way."

"I am sorry to hear about your dad. So you have never left your hometown?"

"I have been all over the country on work trips but that is all."

"Do you enjoy traveling?"

"Sometimes and some of the places I get to see are really breath-taking, but nothing beats home. Have you ever traveled or is there any place you would like to see?"

"No traveling for me. My biggest dream is to be an ER surgeon, so that has been my focus for the last seven years. But I would love to visit Greece one day."

"What made you want to become a surgeon?"

"When I was younger, my father had a terrible accident at work and was rushed to the hospital. And I remember being at the hospital and feeling so helpless. After that I never wanted to feel that helpless again and I want to help people get better."

Nicole walks deeper into the water and kicks some water at me and asks. "I have known Abby and Aiden for seven years. How have we never met before?"

I shrug and answer. "To be honest I don't get out much, unless Aiden drags my ass somewhere, I mostly stay home."

"Like brother like sister they really are twins. Abby always drags me along to parties too. Speaking of, we should probably get back to them."

I nod my head and we start to walk back to the party in a comfortable silence.

Nicole's Pov

I don't know why but every time Drake and I touch I feel this shock that I can't explain. I enjoy talking to him and getting to know him. As we walk back to the party there is a comfortable silence between us, but he breaks it when he says.

"Your texts have been the highlight of my day this past week."

I blush and look away. "Thank you, I enjoy talking to you too."

When we reach Abby and Aiden again, Abby comes and drags me away to the dance floor. "Where have you been? I want to go dancing, but I don't want to go alone."

I look back at Drake and mouth sorry but he only laughs and shakes his head.

I dance with Abby for three songs, when I touch her arm and say. "I think that is enough dancing for me. I don't feel too good. I am going to get some water."

"You do look a bit pale, are you sure you're fine?" Abby asks looking very concerned.

"Yes, I just feel a little tired I am sure water will make me feel better."

"Okay I will go with you just to be sure."

I feel terrible and my body is aching all over, but I don't want to ruin the party for Abby, besides I don't even know what is wrong with me. We walk over and get two bottles of water. I take a sip of water and for a moment it feels like the water is helping, but then the worst pain I have ever felt shoots through my body making me fold over. Abby rushes to my side and tries to help me. When I look up at her she jumps back.

"Nicole your eyes."

"What about my eyes I have the worst pain and you are worried about my eyes. You have to get me to the hospital."

"Your eyes are glowing, we need to get you into the woods."

"Have you lost your mind I feel like I am dying and you want to take me to the woods?"

Abby looks at me and then her eyes roll over in their sockets and when they return to normal she says. "Aiden is on his way to help but I can't reach Drake."

"Maybe try using your phone!"

"Nicole I know you don't understand what is happening right now, but please believe me. You know me you are my best friend, we need to get you into the woods before you shift in front of everyone at the party."

"Abby what are you talking about? Shift into what?"

I look down at my hands and see my nails are being replaced by claws, but before I can ask any more questions, another wave of pain hits me and Aiden catches me before I hit the ground. He picks me up bridal style and carries me into the woods. I hear him and Abby arguing.

"How the hell did this happen Abby? I thought you said she was human."

"Well I thought she was human too. You have met her parents. They are human too. I have no idea how this is happening."

"What are you two talking about?"

Aiden starts to put me down on the ground and looks around. "Okay I think we are deep enough in the forest now. Nicole, listen to me I know it hurts right now but you will be okay I will help you through it. Have you ever heard of werewolves?"

I stare at Aiden not sure if I heard him correctly. "Yes I know about werewolves, but they don't exist." I try to breathe through the pain.

"Well that is not exactly true. We do exist and you are transitioning into your wolf for the first time."

But before I can argue with Aiden the worst wave of pain yet hits me and I curl into myself. Then suddenly the pain is gone. When I try to get up I look down at my hands, but they are paws.

Drake comes running, but he stops when he sees me and growls out the word "Mate."

I somehow get on my feet and takes off, running deeper into the forest.
