Chapter 2

Drake's pov "Now everyone divide into four groups. For today's training each group will get a color green, blue, red or yellow. I have also hidden these four colored flags throughout the forest. You will have to complete different missions to get to each flag. The team that brings back all four flags wins today's training and can decide what to do for tomorrow's training." I have just finished explaining the training for the day when Aiden mind links me asking me to come to my office immediately. "Mark will take over training for today. May the best team win." I nod my head towards my delta to signal that he can take over. I take off to my office in a sprint to find out what is so important that my beta had to summon me to my own office. When I reach my office, Aiden is already waiting inside with a somber look on his face. "What happened?" "Vincent was attacked while he was on border patrol." "f**k!!" I say throwing a chair. "This is the second attack in one week! Where is he now? Has anyone talked to him?" "No not yet he was hurt pretty badly and rushed to the hospital in Cape Point." Aiden, my beta, says hoping to calm me down. "The attacks are getting worse. Last time the hospital was not needed. I will go and see what he remembers. Have the trackers found anything yet?" "They found the tracks but they couldn't track where they came from. I don't think we are dealing with rogues. These wolves are smart, coordinated and excellent at covering their tracks. I will go out and see if I can find something they missed." "We have to get to the bottom of this before we loose someone. The attacks are getting more serious and dangerous if they had to send Vincent to the hospital. If you find something let me know, if not we can go again tomorrow." "I already told them that I am on my way to have a look for myself." Aiden and I walk out of the pack house. Aiden shifts into his wolf to go to the scene where Vincent was attacked. I get into my car to visit Vincent in the hospital in the hopes of getting some answers regarding the wolf that attacked him. The closer I get to the hospital the more restless my wolf becomes. I guess he senses what happened. But now that I am here I keep getting this scent but I can't place it. I walk straight for the VIP doors where they treat the wolves we send to this hospital. There is that scent again but it is so faint. I look up to see a doctor with the brightest blue eyes looking straight at me. I could have sworn that scent was hers but she looks so ordinary and human. I must be losing my mind. I shake my head and walk through the doors to my injured wolf. I see the doctor standing outside in the hallway and approach him to ask about Vincents condition. "Doctor Kane, how is Vincent doing?" Doctor Kane looks up from his clipboard with medical files when he hears my voice. He walks towards me to discuss Vincents injuries. "We had to sedate him so he would calm down and sit still. His healing has kicked in, we will be able to wake him up soon. From the bite and claw marks it looks like it was about five wolves that attacked him." Dr. Kane says with a concerned face. "How did five wolves make it onto my territory without getting noticed?" "I really don't know and how did they get so close to Vincent without him noticing, he is one of your best guards. Let's wake him up and see what he remembers." He puts down his clipboard and gestures for me to go into the room on the right. Doctor Kane and I walk into Vincent's room. Dr Kane walks over to the medicine cabinet and takes out a syringe and a vile of medicine. He walks over to the bed and injects Vincent's IV line with Naloxone to wake him. Vincent's eyes start fluttering open and close. Then he suddenly jolts upright and looks around the room. "What happened?" "You are in the hospital at Cape Point. You were attacked by rogues while you were on patrol. Can you remember anything about the attack?" Vincent looks around the room one more time and sees the doctor and me standing next to his bed. He lies back down slowly, and lets out a low growl from the pain. He closes his eyes for a few seconds and opens them again. "I can't remember much, but those wolves were no rogues. They were trained extremely well. I did not smell or detect them until it was too late. Five wolves jumped me out of nowhere and that is the last thing I remember." "The trackers said the same thing, that we are not dealing with rogues. Thank you, Vincent, now try to get some rest so you can heal." I start to walk out and nod my head towards Dr Kane to follow me out. "Drake wait." Vincent suddenly says. Both I and Dr Kane stop to turn and look at Vincent. "Those wolves were big, like your wolf, an alpha wolf." Vincent says and then lies back down closing his eyes. Once we are outside the room I let out a big sigh." Do you have any good news that can help us track or figure out where these wolves are coming from? Did the bite marks look bigger to you?" "The only good news is that there was no poison involved in the attack, but they also left no trace of anything to try and track them. The marks were already starting to heal when he came in. There was no way of telling if they were bigger. " "Thank you doctor please let me know if anything changes in his condition." I turn around and walk out of the VIP wing. There's that scent again. I stop in my tracks and look around the hospital. But I see nothing, not even the woman with the beautiful blue eyes. I pull out my phone and dial Aiden's number. "Please tell me you have something. Vincent can't remember anything that can help us track the wolves." "I think you should come have a look yourself." "Okay, I am on my way." I walk out of the hospital to my car to drive towards the woods where the attack happened. I get in the car and drive off. Even far away from the hospital and in the middle of the woods, my wolf is still very agitated. I follow Aiden's scent to where the attack happened. I see Aiden inspecting something on the ground. "Did you find something we can use to track the wolves?" "Not exactly, more like something strange and unusual. Look at this paw print." "This wolf's paw was injured probably with something silver to leave a cut like that in the print. But what makes it so important that I had to come and see this for myself?" "Now look at the other four wolves' tracks." We turn around and look at all the paw prints. "They all have the exact same scar on their front right track. That can't be a coincidence." "No it is too coincidental to not be important, but I am not sure how this helps us to track them though." "At least it is something we can research that can hopefully lead to some answers. It is the first clue we have to try and figure out why these wolves keep attacking our borders and guards." "Yes, I will send out word to our surrounding packs tomorrow morning to see if any of them have encountered anything like this." I kneel down next to the paw print and lay my hand next to it. "Take a closer look at the prints. These paw prints are larger than a normal wolf's." "I haven't even noticed it, but yes they are quite large to belong to a normal wolf." "Vincent said the wolves were big, like an alpha wolf." I stand up straight again, looking around and smelling the air. But there is no scent to be found other than Vincent's. "What really bothers me is that they leave no scent. But now at least we have a lead to follow." "My sister said she and her roommate were going to the annual bonfire in Cape Point. I think it might do us good to go with them and relax for the night before we start the hunt again tomorrow." "I don't think I am up for humans tonight." "Suite yourself but alot of wolves from the pack are going to be there too." "Maybe an hour or two won't hurt, let's go." Aiden and I walk off to my car so we can drive to Cape Point to join Aiden's sister at the bonfire.
