Sera's pov.
Before kael.
Cyrene's veins became visible. Her veins were easily traceable and protruding on her forehead. Her brows twisted in outrage, she shot an angered stiffened look at me. Her eyes shrunk in seconds, raising her adrenaline. Short of words. She hardly believed my reaction to her actions despite the punishment I received last time.
"Your face ought to be painted in full muddy powder. You should not be using a concealer. You are to look pale." Her voice sounded thicker than a bass, commanding and harsh.
"I did what I did. So what?" I rolled my eyes at Cyrene.
Her expression loosened. Her arms dropped from her waist.
"Never has anyone dared retaliate to me this way. So audacious, aren't you?" She drew a few steps forward. Intimidating, her body language says beg me, or else…
I chuckled with a thin smile.
"What are you up to? In for another humiliation?" I said aloud, a quiet sigh echoed from the maids. They seemed to fear Cyrene more.
Cyrene gripped my fist. "Oh! You must have lost your senses. You almost lost your life in the hands of Dravon, yet all your senses and thoughts could drift to is makeup, despite I warned you against makeup." She grasped my collar drawing me closer. Saying those words to soak me in humiliation.
"Oops! No makeup! Is that what you meant, you feel inferior and threatened by my beauty. If a whole Luna like you could feel threatened by just a maid's dazzling face, then our presence would have filled their minds with crazy thoughts and fueled your jealousy." I yanked her hand off my collar.
"What an insult." She cracked her palm in the air, thumping on my cheeks. My head snapped sideways, cheeks blushing red like a hot bloom of a fresh slap. The thump left a reverberating sound in my ears. I breathed, trying to process what had just happened.
I twisted her arm and pushed her off.
She lost her balance and fell off to the hands of a maid.
Tension approached, atmosphere heavy. Everywhere went damp, the maids stood still, not moving an inch.
Eyes skitted, but none met. Her eyes rolled, she bounced on her feet.
"Get me my sweetheart! Call for him! He has to see this." She commanded aggressively. Thrusting the other maids away.
Yvonne — the maid sent to get Dravon. She shivered the moment she heard Cyrene's command.
She took her heels to obey, everyone parted.
Cyrene glared at my eyes.
"What next?" I flared my eyes.
"Is that a question? Apologize now or you face Dravon's wrath."
"Are you threatening me?" I remained stubborn and still, pride overshadowed my apologies.
My heart pumping out fear summoned to irritation. My thoughts filled with snapshots, why on earth would I bow to Cyrene, her presence and demands infuriates me, the urge to fight became irresistible as she approached with fury.
My actions came from a case of being dragged into the Palace. The justified humiliation and erupting temperament blindfolded my thoughts, indirectly I dared Cyrene to do her worse.
My tongue rolled in my mouth, my teeth clenched in fury of resisting the words I was about to utter.
"Lady Cyrene…. Cyrene…." Yvonne ran, her hands trembling, fingers clutching each other. Her legs flushed red.
Dravon. Is he something else? What could have happened in resulting her legs trembling?
"Did he brandish his sword at you?" Cyrene asked with a scornful look.
"No ma… miss." She kept her head low. "His guards refused me from entering. They declared the matter unimportant." She shivered as she said those words.
She purposely did because she knew Cyrene understands nothing when she commands a maid. All she cares about is obeying her command even if it meant something risky.
"So what?" She gave a side smile. "My orders aren't important? Or what?" She stepped forward to Yvonne.
She retaliated dragging her feet backwards, "No lady Cyrene.." she nodded her head.
Cyrene's palm connected with her face with a force.
All decorum vanished.
"A tip of an iceberg." She hissed through clenched teeth.
Fueled by grievance and pain of her disobeyed order. She twisted my hair harshly. I tightened my palm in her wrist, defending my situation.
Her face frowned and appeared reddish.
The maid gathered, tearing our bond apart.
Her wrist got twisted and sprained.
A sudden voice thundered the room. "Why the squabble? Have I given space for unnecessary quarrel?"
Cyrene released her grasp, letting me stagger to Kael's foot.
All maids separated, they dispersed in different directions, gluing flat to the wall.
My eyes slowly meet Kael's. He remained calm despite the grief and tension.
"It's this lady, the spy on our pack. A task was assigned to her in three seconds of her death sentence, she's so audacious to sit and argue with me. Over commands I gave and she refused to obey, questioning my personality." Cyrene fabricated the story.
"No Kael. What you heard isn't true. I am overwhelmed, after all humiliation and disgrace I managed to get in here. After all tasks assigned from the Dravon….."
He stepped closer, bit by bit. He doesn't seem to take me serious. "Everyone listen." His tone frightening.
"Cyrene hit me across the face all because I wore a dazzling makeup my facial features highlighted. Then I reciprocated." I moved backwards.
"You again. Isn't it?" Kael pinned my chin, forcing an eye exchange. "I thought you are still shrinking due to previous disgrace. You came in half dead you want your dead body to be released, do you want another embarrassment?" He snapped his head to the left.
"No master. I am well behaved." I smirk with a smile.
"Did you just say 'well behaved?'" He turned my face to his own direction while I looked away. "Why did Dravon almost kill you?"
"I don't know sir. That was just a misunderstanding I had to pay for."
Silence stretched.
He nodded with a vocal thick sound.
Instantly, my adrenaline dropped and face calm. My nerves cooled like ice, my stiffened muscles became weak.
Confused. Did his words weaken me or the fight I exacted energy?
My jaw dropped, speechless and less agile. My thoughts drifted to days since I ate last, I worked more than I ate. My knees wobbled, they knocked each other in seconds.
Kael released his fingers off me, my vision dashed a thick pale color. The room blurred. Everyone shrank. I couldn't feel myself, mostly my limbs.
My knees fell to the floor, the room circled violently. Spinning like wild fire. My world turned opposite, the sky felt closer to me. Then I slumped as I couldn't control my body, my limbs became shaky, craving to be held tightly.
The curtains drew dark in my vision. The sky turned deep purple, presenting black, time was so fast. I hit the floor, my body laid lifeless recklessly before Kael.
