Being awaked by the loud banging on at door, wasn’t how she planned waking up later in the evening when she left — run — from work. Pushing herself off her living room couch she forced her feet towards the banging noise. “I’m coming alright! Just stop knocking so hard!” she groaned as she pulled the door open. The person on the other side wasn’t who she expected but she was glad to see a familiar face. Her different coloured eyes, of faint green in the right and faint brown in the left. Her eyes had always been magnets to her curious when they first met, and the fact she had her fair share of random compliments from people she crossed paths with — how extremely beautiful her eyes were or how her dark brown hair was lovely, or how her skin was always fair — smooth. No lie had been told when they said the woman was lovely, at thirty for that matter yet she didn’t look a day older than twenty one. Drawing her attention back to the glaring Lebanese woman she had standing all this while instead of welcoming her in already. She smirked opening the door wider. “Hello to you too sister in law.” With a sigh she took in her invitation entering her house. “Couldn’t you just call me Amity like everyone else Scarlet?” she questioned making her way to Scarlet’s living room. “Big sister?” “I am just five years older than you.” Amity groaned throwing herself on the couch in star fish form, exhausted. “That is why you are my big sister.” mumbled Scarlet taking her seat beside Amity. “I really regret being your big sister.” With a hum she gently grabbed Amity’s left leg, untying her the shoe laces she slipped the shoe off. “What did my half brother do this time?” she asked slipping off the other shoe. Another sigh, the woman turned herself facing the ceiling. “I caught him f*****g a woman in our bed, at our house.” taking a pause she sat up staring Scarlet in the eyes. “That isn’t what hurt though.” “Why did it hurt?” “It’s the fact that I’m still with him, nine years of my life I gave to him — nine years of marriage. It was supposed to be through thick and thin, till death do us part — love me and stay faithful. Everything was fun for four years, we were perfect and happy then things changed after that — and I should have left the first two times I caught him cheating.” Dropping her gaze to her feet she covered her face with the palms of her hands. “I’m such an idiot.” “Hey come here.” pulling her closer, she rested her head on her shoulder. “You are not an i***t, love just makes us do stupid things and we’ve had our fair share in toxic relationships.” “What am I supposed to do now?” Amity whispered. Even if she tried hard not to let her hear her cry, Scarlet knew her better. Glancing down on her she brought her palm to her cheek wiping away her tears. “Divorce him before you end up deeper in the darkness.” she answered running her fingers down her cheeks. “And who is going to be the father to my child?” “Remarry, it is never too late.” “You don’t get it do you?” she mumbled pulling away from her embrace. Taking a couple breaths she let the words out, “I’m pregnant.” “Oh — that’s why you are upset. Wait a minute . . . I’m going to be an aunt!” she cheered, immediately pulling Amity in a bear hug. “Better than the father — you might just be the father to my child at this point.” whispered Amity into her ear chuckling lightly, fighting back the tears. “Gladly, though if the child cries too much, difficult to handle — I’m out.” Laughing even louder she pulled out her arms, lightly punching her shoulder. “Good to know.” not saying another words she leaned back on the couch. Mimicking her actions she stared at her, at how she looked lost in thought and not as happy — but who could blame her, she had a s**t show of a husband. “So are you going to keep it?” “I don’t know yet.” she sighed, pulling her legs closer to her chest — tightly hugging herself. Placing her hand over her hands she lightly squeezed them, offering a friendly smile. “Then whatever you choose, I’ll be there for you and the little one.” she spoke pointing at her belly a big bright smile on her face. She pressed her lips against hers trying to find comfort but when in return she felt nothing from the other end — no reaction, not the one she needed, she pulled away. Unable to meet her shocked gaze, she pulled herself off the couch. “I’m so sorry I should go.” Grabbing her by her wrist before she got out of range, she pulled the girl toward her embracing her in a hug. “You’re vulnerable right now I get it, you need comfort and I’ll always be here for you but not in the way you want. As much as would have loved to make you feel wanted, loved and cherished for the night — I simply can’t take advantage of your situation and you, Amity.” She explained still holding her to her chest. “Sorry—” “If it makes you feel better, I can finally cancel out kissing you off my bucket list.” “It just makes this incestuous!” she shouted pulling out her embrace, giggling. “We aren’t blood related!” the girl urged pouting. Completely getting off the couch she glared at Scarlet. “I’m going to bed.” it wasn’t like she needed to ask for permission — most days she practically lived here, for weeks sometimes. “Guest bedroom?” Scarlet asked following her behind. “Your room!” “Then the guest bedroom it is for me—” Unable to complete her sentence by the sudden pull on her hand to the direction of her room, she furrowed her eyebrows. “Nop, you are cuddling with me tonight — I need some TLC.” “Oh okay.” Scarlet teasingly winked, twice. “Not like that!” Amity whined earning a giggle from Scarlet. Exactly what she liked, Amity smiling not cry — mostly before of that fool.
