The girl groaned as she heard light footsteps approach her, invading her privacy — and the fact they did not knock, just barged in — irritated her.
Still laying flat on the couch in her office, she did not at all bother to remove her jacket covering her face.
“Go away Jayson.” she whined turning herself, trying to make herself comfortable.
Instead of a response from who she thought entered her office, she was met with the intoxicating perfume she grew to love — only one woman she knew carried that lovely scent.
With her eyebrows furrowed she sat up staring at Lidia holding her jacket in her right hand, a smirk falling upon her face.
“Sorry to disappoint dearest, but I’m not your friend.”
Clearing her throat her gaze fell on her stretched out feet — engulfing all the space. She pulled her legs to her chest creating a space for the woman to seat.
“Lidia? Shouldn’t you be in your office working?” she inquired once the woman had taken her up on the silent offer, and taken a seat.
“So I shouldn’t check up on you? It’s the least I could do, besides it’s lunch time.”
Rubbing the back of her neck she pulled out her phone, checking the time. “I really slept for that long.” she mumbled. Slipping her phone back into her pocket she stared back at the woman — with a teasing smirk she spoke. “Afraid your husband had left a mark?”
She never reciprocated the teasing smirk nor tone, rather sighed darting her attention away.
“You know, you calling that man my husband makes this sound a lot worse that it is.” taking her gaze back to the girl she moved closer to her, placing her hand over her knee. “—but the more the dangerous it gets, it is more thrilling.”
Placing her hand over Lidia’s hand, a smirk on her face. “I wouldn’t agree more.” withdrawing her hand away from hers she faintly smiled looking away. “And I’m fine, go have lunch.”
Cupping her face the woman forced her attention back on her. “Why are your eyes red then?” she asked studying her face up close, caressing her dried up tear screams across her face she pouted. “And your cheeks?”
“Allergies?” she forced a laugh.
Getting on her knees on the couch she leaned forward, placing a kiss on the corner of her lips she pulled back.
“You were crying, I want to know why.”
With a sign, Scarlet leaned towards the woman, her head resting on her chest. “I thought I was okay — you know, healing but then I broke again. It all came back twice as much.” she explained feeling the her warm fingers ran down her hair.
One of the things she liked about Lidia, she wasn’t just a person she slept around with, she had become a friend — her confidant.
“It’s okay to break when you’re healing — the healing process is messy, darling.” the woman whispered running her fingers through her hair.
“Hey boss, someone is here to see you so please get dressed or whatever, I’m sending her in.”
Jayson’s voice rang through the intercom. With a sigh she got off the couch and walked to her desk, her finger pressed the button as she spoke.
“You know I don’t like you calling me boss, Jayson and who is it?”
“You’ll see.”
Not a moment nor a second too late the door swung open, standing by the door way was no other than Mrs brown.
Dressed in slightly baggy jeans, a light pink t-shirt and sneakers — that made her appear a inch or two shorter than she usually would.
It was not her usual attire or anything she had even seen her in, that left her a bit confused.
“Mrs Brown?” she asked tilting her head to the side.
She hummed walking further into the room. “Oh — I didn’t know you had company.” she spoke her gaze caught on Lidia seated on the couch.
“Don’t worry about it Chiara I was just leaving.” she spoke. Standing to her feet she straightened out the wrinkles on skirt. Averting her gaze to Scarlet she smiled, “Talk to you later?”
“Of course!” the girl squealed as she watched the woman walk out, with one last glance at her — she disappeared past the door.
“At least wipe off her lipstick from your lips!”
The woman snorted walking up to the chair on the other side of her desk. Throwing herself in the seat and her hand bag on the surface of her desk.
Puckering her lips at the woman she leaned in closer. “Do you want to take it off.” she teased.
“Unlike some people I respect marriage vows.” she scoffed crossing her arms.
Scarlet forced a laughed before taking a seat, with her thumb she tried wiping off the smear of lipstick at the corner of lips.
“Okay woman — though the question here is, does your husband respect the vows?”
“It’s not your business!” Mrs Brown hissed glaring at her — the audacity.
With a nod she agreed. “I wouldn’t agree more, so don’t judge the woman because of what we’re doing behind closed doors — mind your own damn business.” she snapped back, it took the woman a bit by surprise but she didn’t care. “Let’s get to business now. Why are you in my office.” she changed the subject.
“You could at least have asked more politely, you know act like you’d at least like to see me.” she scoffed folding her arms.
Leaning against the desk she smirked. “Let me rephrase it — are you here to kill me?”
“Now that I think about it. I wish I was, it would be a great act of heroism.” ignoring her dramatic gasp she almost flipped her off, instead she rised her index finger and pursed her lips.
“—but I’m not apparently, I would like to discuss the terms with you from one of our signed authors.” she sighed.
“There is a problem?”
“Not that I know of at least.” Mrs Brown shrugged.
“Cool, so what do they want?” waiting on her response she leaned back against the chair, listening to the woman talk.
