chapter 12

1005 Words
It had been thirty minutes and no one checked on Xavier. His mother was busy in the kitchen and his father was relaxing in his bed room. Ellen walked to his room. He wanted to ask if he still wanted him to sit as the groom at the wedding. He has seen the love Xavier had for Alexander and he wanted to help him, even though it meant putting his life in danger. He was surprised to see how happy everyone was when he saw Xavier down when they were taking a walk. He knocked on the door but no one answered. He thought of leaving but something told him to go inside. He opened the door and saw a sleeping Xavier under the covers. He did not want to disturb him so he left the room. As he approached the kitchen Penelope called him and asked him to wake Xavier up. He went back to the room and stood near the bed. “Xavier, Xavier wake up, your mother sent me to wake you up please don’t throw any tantrums. I know you can hear me.” Ellen tried to wake him up but went in vain. He had had enough of his tantrums so he decided to yeet the covers off of him even though he knew Xavier hated that. He fell back on his bottom to the view he saw. His eyes were wide open and tears involuntary came out them. “Madam, Sir, help!!!” Ellen screamed to the top of his lungs. Penelope and Alfred got there faster that lighting along with a few maids. They were also taken aback by the site they saw. The bed was covered in red. There was no trace of the white fabric that used to cover the bed. Xavier was so pale that he even started to look purple. He looked lifeless. Penelope fainted at that site. No one paid attention to him as they all rushed to help Xavier. “Xavier, Xavier wake up dear, wake up. I love you please don’t leave papa alone, wake up!” Alfred could not hold his tears back. He felt as if he has lost his priceless germ looking at his son like that. “Somebody call the doctor!” one of the maids ran to the guard and got a horse and made the short trip to get the doctor. In no time the doctor arrived. He entered Xavier’s room and looked at him. He instantly knew that it would take a miracle for him to wake up. By the amount of blood that covered the bed it was clear that Xavier was no longer alive. “Doctor please save my son. I will pay you any amount of money you want. Please save him.” Alfred begged the doctor. Even though the doctor had lost hope, he went ahead and checked Xavier just for the sake of it. He placed his finger on Xavier’s neck to feel any pulse. He could feel a slow, weak pulse which gave him hope. He asked everyone to leave the room and give him time to try and revive Xavier. Everyone followed the doctors’ orders and left the room. Only then they realized that Penelope was unconscious. They took her to her room and gave the inhaler to her. She woke up perplexed. Thinking that she was dreaming she smiled and said, “I just had a nightmare. Is Xavier alright? Go and call him for me I need to talk to him.” Alfred did not know what to do but let his tears wet his face. Seeing that, Penelope knew that she was not dreaming. It was not a dream at all. Her son was really fighting for his life. He might not be even fighting for his life, he had already given up on life and there was no one to blame except herself and her dear husband. Without letting a single tear drop from her eyes she firmly said, “Alfred cancel the wedding.” Alfred was surprised. He thought that everyone was happy about the wedding and he confirmed everything with the Abrams. There was no going back anymore. “Honey but …” “No ifs and buts Alfred. I cannot lose my son because of my selfishness. Let him be please!” Penelope roared like the lioness she was. “Where is Xavier? Is he alright?” Penelope asked as she broke into tears. “He is still unconscious, the doctor needs time.” “I know how to wake him up. I know he will be happy to hear this. He will want to wake up.” Alfred knew what she meant and even though it was possible it would help he did not want to hear that boys’ name. It was his fault that his son was like this. Penelope was making her way to Xavier’s room when Alfred stopped her. “Where do you think you are going? I have said this once and I will say it again, no son of mine will love another man. I will not let …” “You will not have a son if you continue with this madness Alfred! If my son dies you will be at fault. I am done with this! Leave me alone, my son needs me right now.” With that said Penelope left the room and headed towards Xavier’s room. As she approached she met the doctor as he left the room. “Doctor is my son alright?” Penelope asked as tears left her eyes. “Madam, I cannot promise anything now but I have asked the maid to change the bed. For now all I can say is give him time. Look after him and keep talking to him. Tell him the things he wants to here. If possible get someone he was close to, maybe someone he loved to talk to him, that way the chances of him waking up will increase. I have left medicines for him. Make sure to never leave the drip empty. I have thought the maids how to change it. I will take leave now.”
