CHAPTER 11

She left his sons’ room not knowing what to do. She wanted to see him happy but what will the people say if they knew that he loved another man. She also cared about others words. A year passed and Xavier was still locked in his house. His condition only got worse. He lost weight and cried himself to sleep every night. Even his mother noticed that he cried every night but she kept silence and only changed the pillow every morning. Only a week was left for the wedding and Xavier felt like a failure. He has tried countless times to escape but was caught every time. Once he even got beat by his father. The scars by the whip were still visible in his back. He knew that there was no one to save him and he did not want to marry Alice. Xavier was taking a walk in the garden with Ellen when he randomly asked, “Ellen, can you do me a favour?” “As long as it does not involve you escaping, then how may I help you?” Xavier took a deep breath before saying, “Will you sit at the wedding instead of me? I don’t want to marry Alice. I don’t want to betray Alexander.” It was clear that Ellen was shocked by what Xavier said. He would for sure lose his life if he dared to do such a thing. “Xavier, you know I can’t do that. I would die by your father’s hands if I dared.” Xavier stopped in his steps and turned around and walked towards the house without a word. He got inside his room and sat on the bed. His hands on the sides of his thighs clenching the bed covers as he broke into tears. He loved Alexander way too much to just give him up but he had tried his best but he never succeed. He did not want to do such a thing but there was no way out now. He stood up and walked to the bathroom and grabbed a razor. He walked back to his bed and went under the covers. “They say sideways you want attention and vertical you are serious. I guess I should go vertical.” Xavier thought to himself as he pierced and slid the razor down his arm. It was painful but it could not compare to what he has been through this whole year. He pulled the covers up hiding his cut arm, all the way from the elbow joint, he went down on the vain to his wrist. Blood came gushing out and was absorbed by the bed sheets. He closed his eyes. Right after that his mother walked in to see her son sleeping peacefully. She looked at his and smiled a little. She was happy that she saw the pillow dry and thought that Xavier was getting better but little did she know that this time the whole bed was wet because of blood. She closed the door and left her son to rest. She walked to her bed room where she found her husband siting looking at some papers. She sat next to him with a smile on her face. Alfred was surprised to see his wife smiling so happily. He could not help but smile and pull his wife closer giving her a small kiss on the cheek. He loved his wife dearly and seeing her happy like this brought joy to his heart. Lately she has been gloomy he was even starting to regret the decision he made for Xavier and was thinking of meeting with Alice’s’ father to cancel the wedding but seeing his wife like this meant his son was fine and he did not have to worry any longer. “You seem happy today Penny. Will you tell me what has made my beautiful wife this happy?” “Don’t flutter me Alfred. I am indeed happy because I think Xavier is finally healing. You know, I was so worried about him. He was even losing weight. Do you know that he has been crying himself to sleep for the whole year? All I could do was change the pillow but today the pillow was dry. I just came back from his room. I found him sleeping and he was even smiling a little.” Happiness was clear on their faces as they continued to chat. “Darling let him rest for now but don’t forget to wake him up to eat his food. And yes serve him in his bed.” Alfred said feeling proud of himself. “Of course I will wake him up. The food will be ready in an hour.”  Penelope walked to the kitchen to prepare all Xavier’s favourite dishes. She was really on cloud nine. Today she was going to ask Alfred to stop the wedding because she saw that Xavier was really hurt and she could not bear it any longer. She did not want her son to hate her and the last talk they had she saw that he was really hurt but she did not say anything. Today was the happiest day of her life because since morning she did not see Xavier cry and when she went to change the pillow she found it dry. All she wanted was the best for his son. She was singing as she prepared the food, even the maids thought that the wedding has been cancelled and their young master was finally happy. They hatted seeing him hurt like that. The house was surely filled with happiness. But this happiness was not going to last long. there is always sunshine before a storm and a storm before sunshine every one new that and that should have been their first red flag but everyone was being to proud of themselves to actually think how come Xavier's behaviour changed in just a day? Only Ellen thought about this but he kept silent and only wondered by himself.
