The morning sun filtered through Elena’s curtains, but the light did little to chase away the lingering fear from the night before. Every muscle in her body ached with exhaustion, but sleep had been impossible after Viktor’s terrifying visit.
Lucien had stayed by her side until dawn, his protective presence the only thing keeping her grounded. But now, as she sat at the kitchen table with a steaming cup of coffee in her hands, the reality of the situation was sinking in.
“We can’t keep doing this,” Elena said, her voice quiet but firm.
Lucien, who was leaning against the kitchen counter, frowned. “Doing what?”
“Waiting,” she said. “Hiding. Hoping that Damien and Viktor will just go away. They won’t. We have to fight back.”
Lucien’s jaw tightened. “Elena, you don’t know what you’re saying. Damien and Viktor are ruthless. Going after them would be suicide.”
“Then what’s the alternative?” Elena asked, setting her cup down with a thud. “We can’t just keep running, Lucien. They’re not going to stop until they have me. We need a plan.”
Lucien sighed, running a hand through his dark hair. He knew she was right, but the thought of putting Elena in even more danger was unbearable.
Before he could respond, there was a knock at the door. Lucien tensed immediately, his eyes darkening as he moved toward the door, every sense on high alert.
Elena’s heart pounded as Lucien opened the door, but instead of Damien or Viktor, Mia stood on the front porch, looking determined.
“I’m in,” Mia said without preamble, stepping inside.
“In what?” Elena asked, confused.
“Whatever plan you’re cooking up to take down those vampire creeps,” Mia said. “I’m in. No way am I letting you face them alone.”
Elena exchanged a look with Lucien, who sighed but didn’t argue.
“We don’t even have a plan yet,” Elena admitted.
“Then we better come up with one,” Mia said, crossing her arms. “Because if Viktor and Damien think they can mess with you, they’re about to learn just how wrong they are.”
Lucien couldn’t help but smirk, despite the seriousness of the situation. “You’re fearless, I’ll give you that.”
Mia shrugged. “Someone has to be.”
Elena smiled, grateful for Mia’s unwavering support. But the weight of what they were about to do hung heavy in the air. This wasn’t just about protecting herself anymore—it was about stopping Damien and Viktor before they hurt anyone else.
“So, what’s our first move?” Mia asked, leaning forward.
Lucien’s expression grew serious. “We need allies. We can’t take on Damien and Viktor alone.”
“Allies?” Elena asked. “Like who?”
Lucien hesitated. “There are other vampires who hate Damien as much as I do. Old enemies, old friends… I can reach out to them. But it won’t be easy. They don’t trust anyone—especially not me.”
“It’s a start,” Elena said. “And it’s better than doing nothing.”
Lucien nodded, though his eyes were troubled. “If we do this, Elena, there’s no going back. Once we declare war on Damien, he’ll come at us with everything he has.”
Elena reached out and took his hand, her grip steady. “Then we’ll face him together.”
Lucien’s eyes softened, and he squeezed her hand. “Together.”
Mia cleared her throat. “Hate to break up the moment, but we’ve got work to do. Let’s get moving.”
As they began planning their next steps, Elena couldn’t shake the feeling that they were standing on the edge of something dark and dangerous.
But she wasn’t afraid. Not anymore.
Because for the first time, they had a plan—and they were ready to fight back.
