A Second Chance

Chapter 4

I must’ve fallen asleep because I woke up on the couch in my office with one of the twins’ jackets on me. I sit up half asleep looking around “James? Jayden?” I say looking for my mates. “Right here” James says walking into the office with Jay behind him. I sigh and stretch wrapping the jacket around me, the guys hand me some food from the cafeteria. I didn’t realize how hungry I was until my stomach growled. I eat the food keeping track of my phone for any updates on Kelly or Trevor.

As I eat a knock comes on my door and Marie pops her head in, “It’s Kelly” she says urgently. I jump up and we run upstairs and to Kelly’s room. I walk over to her and listen to her heart and lungs and they were slowing down her parents crying, “please help her,” her mom begs I shake my head “I’m sorry Mrs. Peterson but I can't, it's time to say goodbye” I turn to Marie “go prep Trevor and get him to OR 3” she nods and walks out I step out and let Kelly’s parents say their goodbyes.

Once Kelly’s heart stopped and we turned all her machines off we did the walk of honor down the halls to the OR. Every doctor, Nurse and available visitor/patient to stand along the halls as we wheel Kelly’s bed to the elevator for the OR to get her heart and give it to Trevor. I call the funeral home to come get Kelly’s body after the surgery then I get the twins and we leave to head back home.

As soon as we get home I start taking my clothes off and head to the shower. The twins can see how exhausted I am so they just let me shower alone. I stand under the water and think, the last 24 hours I lost a patient but saved another. I lean against the wall of the shower and sink down till I’m sitting on the floor and just cry. Being a doctor I have learned to keep my emotions in but when alone I let myself cry. The door to my bathroom opens and I see a figure standing at the shower. Wiping my eyes I look up and Jayden turns the water off and kneels in front of me “Jayden?” I whisper. He scoops me up and carries me to bed where he just holds me. Jayden isn’t usually the one showing his emotions; he tries to hide them. James was more of the emotional one and the more lovable one, but this…..this was nice so I curl into his chest and cry myself to sleep as he just holds me.

It has been a month since the twins and I discovered we are mates and they have decided it was time to go back to their pack but I….not so much. I had left my job. I needed a break to decide if I really wanted to be a Luna again. “Vivian” I hear Christian say I snap out of it “yes?” I say he sighs “the alphas need to go back to their pack and as their mate you will need to go with them and become their Luna” he says softly I shake my head “no…..I am not ready to be a Luna again being a Luna is what got Luke killed” I take a deep breath, “and I am not losing anyone else I care about.”

Christian sighs, “Viv it is not your fault Luke died and we will catch Xythan I swear but Luke made you promise to give them a chance and you have seemed so happy with them this past month please go be happy with them” I look at him not wanting to go but Josie walks over and takes my hand, “Viv it’s ok to be scared but they as your mates will protect you and make you happy.” She smiles her wonderful smile and I sigh then nod, “o…ok I will go” she hugs me and by the end of the day the twins and I are heading to the Black Woods Pack.

I stare out the window watching the scenery pass by as I head to my new home. It takes us 2 hours to make it to the pack grounds. Just like the name the whole area was covered in a lush wooded area it was dark but a beautiful pack ground. We roll up to the packhouse around 10 at night. James parks then helps me out of the back seat, “welcome home Vivian” he whispers. I turn and look at the pack who has now gathered at the packhouse wanting to see their new Luna. “Black Wood Pack please help us in welcoming your new Luna, Vivian White!” James says loudly to the pack everyone cheers and shouts their welcomes but I just look out at the huge pack and squeeze James’ hand tighter. Two men walk up and grin “welcome home Luna I am Layton the pack beta and this is Andrew the gamma of the pack” he says. Layton was a tall man probably about 6’ with sandy blonde hair and gray eyes whereas Andrew was a huge man I would guess around 6’2” with black hair and dark green eyes. I nod my head in respect but don’t say anything, “gentlemen how about you get the Luna’s bags and take them to our room while we head inside and get her some food then rest it’s been a long day for her” Jayden says, well almost demands they nod “yes alpha” both men say before walking away.

We head inside and they lead me to the kitchen, where a bunch of omegas are talking and laughing. James clears his throat and they go quiet instantly, he smiles “hello ladies if you don’t mind we would like something for the Luna to eat please.” An older woman walks up and bows her head “hello Luna I am Trisha the head omega and we wanted to welcome you home our alphas have been waiting for you for years” she smiles. I give her a small smile and a “hello” before going to sit at the table with the twins. “So how many are in your pack?” I ask James he smiles, “love it’s our pack and 3,000 wolves in total.” My eyes go wide “3,000!” he nods, “how many were in your first mate’s pack?” he asks, I look down “500” I whisper then look at him, “we weren’t huge but they were family they were my pack until I gave them to the beta and left” I say ashamed. Jayden lifts my chin “you just lost your mate and unborn child it was a lot to handle don’t be ashamed to admit that kitten” he says and kisses my forehead. After having some food, the twins showed me to our room on the 4th floor. “This whole floor is ours so no one should be up here to bother us unless invited” Jayden says I nod and hold onto James’ hand as we head into the room.

Once you step into the room there is a small sitting area with a couch, a chair and a TV mounted on the wall. Past that is the main bedroom where there is a huge California King bed sits in the middle of the room. To the right of the bed is a small bed stand with a light and to the left is a set of french doors leading out to a balcony overlooking the pack grounds. Opposite the bed was a set of 3 doors one led to a bathroom. I walked over and looked inside the bathroom. Inside to my left was a counter with his and hers vanity and beside it the toilet then across the room was a huge walk in shower with a rain head above and both sides had shower heads and controls so 2 people could shower at their own temperature. Then my favorite part of all was a beautiful white porcelain claw foot tub with golden hardware. I stare at it in awe and smile, “wow” I whisper.

I hear James chuckle behind me, “should we be jealous of this tub?” he asks I nod, staring at it, “oh yes it’s everything I’ve ever wanted, this tub and I will become best friends.” He laughs and kisses my head before pulling me out of the bathroom and over to the next 2 doors. One of the doors leads to their walk-in closet that is filled with all kinds of clothes from casual to full suits. I smile and look around. I take one of the sleeves and take in their amazing scents. Next they lead me to the closet beside theirs, “this is yours” Jayden smiles and turns the light on I gasp and smile. Walking in I look at all the clothes in my closet. A lot of the clothes are the ones I brought with me and the others must’ve been added after they found out I was their mate. My closet ranged from jeans and t-shirts to ball gowns. I smile and pull one dress out and look at them, “really? Is this necessary?” James laughs “yes you never know when you may need it” I roll my eyes smiling as I hang it back up.

After looking around the guys leave and let me bathe and get some rest as they do some alpha work. I curl up under the blankets and fall asleep to the scent of my mates. After a bit I slowly wake up and the bed is still empty. I sit up and notice the clock says it's 3 in the morning, so I get up and go to their shared office. I knock then hear one of them tell me to come in. Opening the door I see the guys working over a table both have a drink beside them and a map of the territory. Once I walk in they both look up then Jayden looks at the clock, “s*it baby we are so sorry we lost track of time” he says I walk over and curl into his lap relaxing under his hold, “it’s ok” I whisper and yawn. I sit up and look at the map “is everything ok?” I ask James nods “yes we just have had a few rogue sightings lately and we are just looking at ways to increase patrols along the border.”

I frown and look at the map “how many?” I ask “how many what? little wolf?” James asks, I look at him “How many rogues?” he frowns at my question but answers “about 15 they are always together in a huge group but never comes to the border but is close enough for our patrols to see them why baby?” My heart quickens and I start to shake.

Could it be?

No he wouldn’t be stupid enough to try and attack the biggest pack would they?

Surely he doesn't know I am here does he?

All these thoughts run through my head but I snap out of it when Jayden shakes me gently I look at him “I….I know who is behind the rogues” I whisper Jayden nods as if to say go ahead “his name is Xythan he killed Luke and is trying to get me” both men growl as I tell them this and Jayden’s grip tightens on my waist “you are ours and no one will get you” he says his eyes turning black I put my hand on his cheek and kiss his nose “I know Jayden, I know I am safe as long as I have you two” I say he pulls me into his chest and holds me close to him. Soon we head to the room and all 3 of us cuddle before falling asleep.
