Chapter 48

“Is everyone here?” dad asked us when we the last person that is required to attend this meeting has taken their seat. Everyone looks around to make sure that what they are about to answer is correct.

“Everyone is here,” Kuro’s dad said in his deep voice. Then everyone took their seats to their comfort as dad, is opening the blue print in this big table in the middle. Everyone looked at it as we saw the map of the docks where the shipment will arrive tomorrow. Yes, the big event is happening tomorrow and I am sure that the enemy is planning too right now.

“As you can see, this is the map of the docks,” he stated and he gave us the time to observe the map. It’s like a maze because of the stock cargo in the area. “Per my request to not move anything in the docks until our shipment arrive, this is the exact layout of the place,” he said, and that means that we had the advantage in the place which is good.

“The cargos are empty as the owners of the shipment took it, and we can use it for cover during exchange fires, also this can be our advantage and use this to ambush advancing enemies,” Kuro’s dad said and it seems like that he is the one that planned along with dad today.

“Yes, and that’s why Nab’s group will be the one in charge in the front lines and will use the empty cargos to ambush the enemy,” dad said and then he looks at me. “Kuro and John will protect my son in his area, and the highest point of the place is here,” he pointed his finger on the side of the beach. “This is a suitable area for you son, because you can see everything despite of the blockages,” he told me and I just nodded. “The others will hold certain areas when the enemy brings their stronger soldiers,” he added and then he told all the other groups where are they assigned and explained what will they do.

There’s nothing major, dad told us except for my group and Nab’s, I will be the one that will defend the cargo with my rifle, the goal there is that from far away I can stop the enemy from advancing as much as possible, but my only problem is, if there are enemy snipers in the area, that means that they can easily spot me and shot me down.

I really wish that the area that dad assigned me to is not an open area and there is something that I can use for cover.

“Is everything clear?” dad asked us and all of us said yes in unison as a sign that we all understand the plan. “Good, prepare your team for tomorrow’s battle, meeting dismissed,” everyone stood up immediately and I remained still at my seat waiting for them to get out.

I need to clean my rifle later, and when I am sniping to reach my 100% accuracy, I need to feel that everything is right, even a slightest “off” feeling in the situation is crucial. Then I will do my best.

Everyone is out of the room now including dad, except for me, so I stood up to go to my room and start preparing myself. When the training ended, I can still feel my body aching but its okay, because the rest that Nab gave us really helped us to recover.

I feel stronger now but my mind is not, I think I still can’t take my trauma. I really hope that everything goes well for us tomorrow.

“Hey,” I saw John waiting for me outside the room and he looks serious, I wonder what it is. I went to him and we looked at each other straight in the eye wondering why he called me.

“What is it?” I asked him.

“We need to talk about something,” he answered my question and that intrigued me so he started walking and I followed him until we reached a private space where everyone usually doesn’t go. Going to a place like this, it seems like that what he is about to tell me is very important.

“I’m all ears bro,” I said and he sighed.

“I know,” he said expecting me to listen to him from the start. I grew worried about him because I don’t know what is bothering him these past days and now he is about to tell me the reason why.

“I am worried about the upcoming battle tomorrow,” he said and I am confused why he is worried about the battle tomorrow. “There is something that I don’t want you all to know but if something happens to me, can you still accept me as your friend and an ally?” he asked me and everything what he said right now does not make any sense at all.

“W- what are you talking about John?” I asked him confused.

“I am uncertain of everything Rei and I think that I need assurance,” he said. This is why he is in deep thinking. He is worried that we might reject him. But don’t worry we will not, I still don’t know the exact situation that he is talking about.

“Don’t worry,” I said to him and I tap on his shoulders. “We are your friends...” I paused and thought on what I had said. “No, we are not friends,” his eyes widened and I am still not finished with my statement. “We are brothers,” I finished. “And family accept each other no matter what they are,” I said which relieved him as I can see it in his eyes.

I guess this is the assurance that he needed.

“Thank you,” he said.

“I’ll go on I still need to prepare Rose for the battle tomorrow,” I said to him and he blinked a couple of times.

“Okay, thank you,” he thanked me again, I guess his mind is blank right now and I think he still needs time to think clearly.

I went straight to my room. Another question entered my mind yet again which confuses me what is he talking about, I only said that to reassure him, don’t get me wrong. I mean every word that I said to him. He is a brother to me and that will not change no matter what happens.

I reached my room and entered it; I immediately went under the bed to reach for the case where my rifle is hidden right now. I pulled it and it feels light right now, maybe because of my improved muscle. I think I need to get use to this new feeling.

I decided before cleaning my rifle, I will go to the practice range to see how my accuracy is with this feeling. When I reached the range there are many people in here right now, firing their pistols to the target which is good because they are eager to win tomorrow.

This made me happy and I went straight to a private room where only I can use it, I like to be alone when firing my rifle during my practice as it helps me to concentrate more.

I turned on the lights and there are the control switches which I can use to control the targets that I am firing at later. I opened the case and saw my red rifle rose, and I attached its scope to its body and I turned it on and programmed it, as I usually does to turn on the masking feature.

After that I put it carefully on the table went to the control switches to make the targets in the range appear. I spawned 5 moving targets in the area and I set their speed at max. That’s what the enemies are in the field, they are experienced and they also trained themselves.

I stretched my arms and fingers and warmed up my body in my still stance. My main goal is to aim at the head and kill them in one show, no body shots, just head shots as it will help me. These moving targets moving at full speed will make this a challenge for me.

After the warm up, I grabbed my rifle and went to my sniping spot in this room which is at the back because this is the farthest point in this place. Being in short range is a disadvantage to me, as the scope’s vision will sacrifice my point of view. That is common sense.

Now I can see all five moving targets in my scope and I adjusted the vision to my liking and adjust my aim at head level so when I fire my bullet, that will be shotted at their head. The only way to miss is not hitting them.

I prepared my pointing finger at Rose’s trigger as I calculated the speed and momentum of my bullet to the target’s current speed...

When everything is set in motion, I pulled the trigger and baam! One of the moving targets went down due to the force of my bullets which is great! Then another one, this new feeling does not distract me, instead it improved my aim at greater level. As I can use my rifle to flick and advance my aim to the target’s destination. I will probably use this for tomorrow.

This will be a game changer.

After all five moving target are down, I raised more and this time they are moving in random directions at full speed which means that this will be more of a challenge to me and will help me determine more of my potential.
