Chapter 49

“Nova, I am trusting you with this,” dad stated this sentence for the last time worrying about me, infiltrating the enemy territories. They did it first so its natural for us to exact our revenge towards them. I volunteered that I am the one that will lead the charge later at night when the shipment arrives.

“Dad, I’ll be alright with my team, we can ensure that we will inflict enough destruction on them just like what they did to us,” I said pointing out to the attack that they did on us one day. I cannot even forget what I saw back then.

“I know, but bringing that small team tonight,” he said remarking about a 5 man team that I personally chose that I will bring tonight before the shipment arrive. They are the best of the best and bringing a whole team will only put us in a disadvantage.

This is a stealth mission, and only a few of them will work and that is the essence of it. With them who I trust my life with, I can ensure dad that this mission will bring joy to him and I promise him that. I won’t let him down again.

“Dad,” I hold his hands and I can feel his hands are cold, sweaty, and shaking. I chuckled softly finding it cute that behind his terrifying image, he has this kind of side when in front of his daughters. I can tell that he is extremely nervous and I need to calm him down before he starts to get paranoid. I look at him straight in his eyes. “Trust me,” I said to him reassuring him that this plan will work.

“Okay,” he said timidly. “But you will come back in one piece, right?” he asked.

“Not even one but twice,” I joked and laughed and I can tell that dad did not like that joke from me.

“Don’t ever say that again in front of me,” he said angrily. That was a bad joke I gotta admit, because that really scared him.

“But kidding aside dad, you’ll see in the news tomorrow the destruction that we will cause tonight,” I said. According to him that the enemy will not be expecting our arrival so he really needs to get his hopes up and put more faith in me.

I am not such a fool to run straight to death and shout at the enemies to shoot[MVM1]  me because I am so exposed. He knows me and that is enough reason to trust me. He knows how I handle things so calmly and wins even the most unwinnable situations, that I had been into.

“Just promise me that you will come back safe,” he said and I sighed because I really can’t calm his mind.

“I promise,” I complied and he looks a little bit relieved right now. He really won’t calm down unless I said that two magical words out from my mouth.

“Come here,” he offered me a hug and I accepted it and I hugged him as hard as I could. We released each other from our embrace after a short while. “Okay go now, I know you need to prepare your team and plan,” he said and that’s good that he knows that I need to prepare.

“Okay dad,” I said and gave him a kiss in the cheeks and I started to move towards our meeting room where I told them through Alexa, after I talk to dad.

I walked through the hallways and soon I reached the doors. I stood in front of it and closed my eyes to take a deep breath before I enter the room. Being a leader can be so terrifying sometimes and this is one of those terrifying moments.

This is not some sort of team building, that we cooperate and tries to win just like its nothing. This is a life and death situation and their lives is within my hands, they depend on my plan and I need to make sure that this is effective as much as possible and avoid them being killed by the enemies.

With our numbers now, it is highly possible that we will be cornered by the enemy once detected. I know, the consequences both for me and our gang. This will be a huge loss for us because the other four including Alexis are big assets and one of the most reliable and strongest fighters.

That’s why I chose them because I trust their strength and I believe that they will have a bigger contribution in this mission and with them, I can confidently say that it is highly possible that the plan will go just like what I thought it to be.

I grabbed the door knob and took a deep breath again before I turn it and opened the door. Just like what I am expecting to see, they are all here waiting for me and Alexis is standing in front of them, debriefing them about the mission just like what I ordered her to do.

Because of the door creaking, I caught their attention and they all turned to me. I gathered my composure and tried my best to look, like one of the authorities. I am the one in charge of them so it is my job that they obey me.

“Are you all ready for the plan?” I asked the assuming that the debriefing is finished.

“Hello Nova,” Alexis greeted me and I smiled at her and I walk besides her and faces them.

“I will take this from here,” I said to her and I asked for the papers that she is currently holding and I am assuming that in these papers the plan is written. This plan is formulated based on the information that dad’s broker has given us. Blue print of the place, the time of shipment’s arrival and even layout of the cargos that we can use to hide and use it as an advantage for us.

“Are you now well informed about the mission tonight?” I asked them and the three of them nodded at me. “Then does anyone of you wants to back out? This mission is not for cowards and those who has the bravest of hearts to face death are the only ones allowed to come with me,” I challenged them because I don’t want to bring someone that’s only been forced.

I waited for a couple of moments for someone to volunteer to back out and fortunately no one said that they wanted to back. These three men in front of me right now are now the braves men that I have ever known before dad.

“Then this means that you are ready to die in our name,” I said to them referring to our gang’s name. This means that they are now really ready. Not backing our right now means that they are prepared to die.

I got no response from them and it is fool of me to expect something. They are just quiet and maybe it is good for us to not talk about death anymore, as if I am sure that any one of us will surely die. The blame will be put on me, so I don’t want that to happen to me, and being successful in this situation will put more fear in my name, when the enemies hear it.

“Obviously, we will be the ones that will emerge victorious and fear not this is not some sort of suicide mission,” I said to them trying my best to put positivity as much as possible but I don’t want them to see a false hope in front of them. I want to balance it all out right now. So that if something bad happens later, their morale is not easily destroyed.

“I have a question,” one of them raised his hands and I recognized him, his name is Anthony, his feats are one the ones to remember. He is the one that defended one of our parcels back then when we are new in this area and is starting to establish our name. In a brawl he went against one hundred men and he won that all by himself before we even arrived.

“What is that?” I asked him to state his question to me and I have an idea what he is about to ask me.

“Are you sure that this is all of us?” as expected because I did not inform them that I’ll be only taking a few of us.

“Yes,” I said with complete control in my voice. “This is to avoid detection as much as possible from the enemy and if we are bringing a whole army charging at them, we are putting ourselves in danger,” I said. “With your skills and capabilities, I am putting my trust to you all, that’s why you are the ones that I have chosen,” I stated and hoping that with these words I can inspire them.

“Shall I proceed with the plan?” Alexis asked me and I look at her and nodded. She unrolled the blue print of the docks that we are infiltrating tonight, map is already marked with the possible locations of the enemy. Also showing us possible locations that we can enter to. We can see that this is like a maze and the dad assured me that this is the latest layout that the information broker has provided him.

I really hope that this is accurate and everything will go as I see it.
