“Garrison, scan the are we are ready to engage, I repeat we are ready to engage,” I said to the radio after the patrols passed in our area.
“Copy, I will scan the area right now and will send to your radars all hostile locations will be posted on your radar,” Garrison replied on the radio. All of us brought radio with us, for the comms in mid battle. We all look at our radar waiting for Garrison to complete the info that we are needing.
Later on, red dots had been posted in our radar and there are many of them here, the radar does not show the exact lay out of the map but this is enough to help us avoid hostile units. This is a stealth mission, not an assault one.
“Keep us posted, Garrison,” I said on the radio so he can warn us about incoming hostile units that is not been detected by the radar.
“Copy,” he replied cheaply y and I proceeded to scan the area and used the radar to pinpoint the enemy locations. Fortunately, the place offers us multiple options to choose what route are we going. Obviously, I chose the long route that will lead us straight to the docks.
The short route is heavily guarded and all personnel in the area are slowly moving and that means that there are plenty of time for us to move. I looked back at my team.
“Let’s go, stick with me,” I said to them and I proceed to move while holding my suppressed pistol in my hand to shoot the enemy that will detect us. This will not create noise that can alert the enemy, but still has the power of a normal gun.
I stopped at a corner to peek on all corners and to make sure that there are no enemies incoming in the area, I looked at my radar again and there are no moving red dots.
“Clear,” I said to them and proceeded to cross the clear area as quick as possible to avoid detection and... “Stay in the shadows,” I said and we hid on the shadows of these big cargos. Thanks to the map that the broker has given us, I memorized all the paths in this place and I know where exactly to go. What’s left for us is to avoid enemies in the way.
“Hostiles above,” Alexis said and we all look up and saw the flashing lights of the enemy above scanning for the area. “Hide,” she said and once again we entered the shadows of the cargo.
“Let them pass,” I said and we watched the enemy to scan the area and we pinned ourselves in this corner as much as possible to avoid detection. We are wearing black suits, that can camouflage in this dark area. They slowly walk while walking in the area until there are right exactly above us. Earlier we can’t hear their chatter but now we can hear it partially.
“Do you think there are enemies coming?” one of them asked the other one and they turned away the lights but they still remain above us.
“Stop,” I said when my team started to move.
“Why?” Anthony asked. “Do you want me to take out those guys?” he asked me.
“Shh,” I shushed him. “Listen,” I said to them pertaining to their conversation.
“I don’t know, that’s what the boss said, they will probably come,” the other one replied to the other one’s question. Alexis was right, they knew that we are coming for the shipment.
“What if they don’t?” the other one asked again.
“Then good for us,” he answered cheaply.
“What about the p-“
“Shh, don’t ever mention a word about that,” he said. “The enemy might be spying on us and the boss told us that there is a spy inside the organization,” he said and that gave our minds multiple question and we don’t have any idea what are they talking about.
“There is also a spy on the enemy right?” he asked.
“What do you mean?” the other one asked back.
“The one who gave us the information about the stronghold of the Smiths the attack on the other day,” he answered.
“I don’t have that much information about them,” he replied. “But still don’t just spout important information, we can’t trust people easily inside the organization these days,” he answered. “Let’s go there to scan the area,” he said and we hear their footsteps getting faint as time passes by.
“Told you,” Alexis said on the radio. “They are prepared for our arrival,” she added, but I ignored it because I learned something from them.
“Did I hear that correctly?” Troy asked.
“What?” Gerick asked back.
“About the spy,” he answered Troy’s question.
“Loud and clear,” I said on the radio. “We have more time about that later,” I said. “Let’s focus on the mission,” I told them because it is enough that I am the one bothered by these revelations that we learned from those two. Also, what does the other one is about to say? I don’t have any idea.
“I think the other one meant to say plan, earlier,” Alexis told me as if she was reading my mind but no matter but her speculation is possible.
“Might be,” I replied to her.
“Let’s be extra careful, now that we know that they are expecting us,” she said to us.
“Copy,” all of them replied. We continue to move in the shadows and we went straight without being detected.
“If they are expecting us, why there are a few of them here?” Anthony asked curiously while we are on our way. That is a question for all of us that no one can answer, if the other one, really meant saying plan earlier, the we do not know about it and all we can do is to improvise that’s why I chose them to be a part of my team.
“No idea,” Anthony replied.
“Save the chit chat for later, ladies,” I said to them to shush them up, the enemy might hear them talking to each other.
“Hey Nova,” Alexis called onto me. “Do you think that they are planning an ambush if they spot us?” she asked me. “That’s the best scenario that came into my mind and I can’t think of anything except for that,” she said to me.
“That is highly possible,” Gerick replied to her.
“Then where?” I asked them, if we try to answer one question, more questions pop up in our mind that’s why it is best for us to just remain quiet.
“I... don’t know,” she said hesitantly and that’s what I thought. We can’t read the enemies’ mind. It’s convenient for us if we can but we can’t.
“Let’s just what will happen if the worst case scenario come,” I said to them. “For now let’s just proceed with the plan and locate the shipment and once we located the shipment’s location, it is time for us to extract it. Then we will proceed to our exfil location to get away from this place.
“Copy,” they said.
“Garrison, scan the area,” I said to the radio when the radar does not show any signs of the enemy anymore.
“The area is clear,” he replied to us.
“That’s strange,” I said to him.
“The satellite can’t read any signs of life below there,” he said. That’s right we have a satellite scanner that we are using for our missions. Garrison is back at the house, inside the control room giving us the assistance that we will need.
“Damn, ten four,” I said to him stating that I clearly received his message. “Lads, we don’t have any options now and I am afraid that Alexis is right, they might be planning to ambush us, so prepare yourselves we are proceeding blindly in this place,” I said to them and unlike earlier the radar is telling us where to go and we can easily choose a safe route, but now we must proceed with extreme caution. It seems like that the favor of luck is within us because of the information that the two earlier have given us.
I can imagine that we will proceed in this area recklessly, the spy will come later and I will make sure to inform dad about that. I smell something fishy because there is a third party meddling in both sides and they are not even part of the gangs.
I don’t know their intentions but I can clearly tell that they don’t have any clear intentions and they plan on destroying us. It’s common sense. The other giving the information they needed so that they can attack us, and there is also one for us giving us information to take our revenge.
I will discuss this matter once I came back, and this should be done privately because the spy inside us will be aware, that we are aware of their presence inside the gang.
I was shocked when I felt Alexis hands grab mine and pulled me to her.
“Hey quit spacing out,” she said to me. “Hostiles passing in front hide,” she said and we quickly hide in the shadows. Oh, that was a close call. Thanks to Alexis we avoided detection. We let them walk slowly passing in the area.
I felt Alexis hands grab my shoulders again, and I look back at her.
“What are you even thinking?” she asked me disbelief and I know that this is about what happened earlier.
“I am sorry,” there is no point of arguing with her right now. That was clearly my fault.
“You are the one telling us to set all of that aside and focus on the mission first but you are the one who is not focused,” she said to me, instead of feeling annoyed, irritated or angered by her words. This feels new. Yes this is indeed new. This is the first time that Alexis showed emotion to me.
Am I dreaming?
“What are you smiling about?” she asked again that made me snap out of my thoughts again.
“Nothing,” I said. “Let’s proceed that won’t happen again, I promise,” I said.
