Chapter 56

1943 Words
“We are in heavy contact,” the radio chattered. This voice it must be Gerick’s and there are loud gunshots. I became frantic as I remember that he is injured, so I quickly grabbed my radio and pressed a button into it. The static sounds that were in it earlier suddenly disappeared. “What’s your location?” I asked and I released the button waiting for an immediate reply. “I repeat what’s your location?” I asked again as I did not receive an answer from him. Still no reply. “I have a bad feeling about this,” Troy remarked. “And I hope that your feeling is not correct,” I replied immediately. “Where are you going?” asked Troy when he saw me rushed towards another crate. “Gerick’s location!” I shouted. “How are you sure that he is there?” he asked me again. “There is trouble,” I answered his question and it is up to his brain to understand my statement and I went forwards never, having a doubt about my choice. Also, it is up to him to decide whether he follows me or not, and nothing will change my mind right now, because I am saving my helpless ally. I saw the control room, still emitting black smoke from the inside, because the explosion is still recent. I ignored it and I followed the gunshots because that’s my only clue about his location right now. Now, I wonder where the other two is, I mean Alexis and Anthony, where are they? Well, I am sure that both of them can handle themselves right now, I will prioritize him first. I feel Troy followed me on my way, so I stopped him when I reached a corner and decided to take a look in the area. I saw a platoon of soldiers, on their backs on me. I sneaked up to them and pointed my suppressed pistol to their heads, and I pulled the trigger very quickly, pointing my gun, to each of their heads. All of them dropped dead and I withdrew my pistol and told Troy that the area is clear. He stepped out of the shadows and he carefully tiptoed and takes a look for himself. He doubts my words. Geez. Have some faith on me dude. “Let’s go, and save our friend,” I told him and I run again so I can get there quickly before everything is too late for me to save him. I have my suppressed pistol in my hand as it is very handy for me to remain in stealth. Also, when I encounter an enemy that is out of my range, I can quickly shoot them by just pointing this gun towards them and pulling the trigger. The gunshots are getting louder and louder right now as I approach the hot area, and I prepared my pistol on my hand ready to fire at any enemies in sight. I took a deep breath and I immediately take aim and saw Alexis and Gerick. They are hiding in a wall that gives them cover from the rain of bullets. I immediately rushed to their side and saw Gerick weakened from his injury because of blood loss. My worries are lessened when I saw that his injuries are already tended. He can hold on for a little while. “What happened here?” I asked Alexis. “And why aren’t you answering the radio?” I added and she return fire to the enemies. “My radio got shot down and I got lucky, because it’s not me, where the bullet lands on,” she answered my question as she is reloading her gun, and she looks at me straight in the eye. “We should call an immediate exfil, Gerick needs a quick medical assistance,” she told me seriously. “Exfil is already on its way,” I replied and I grabbed a rifle lying on the ground. I checked the mag to check if it’s loaded and luckily for me, I found the other magazines, probably dropped by an enemy who is panicking I guess, but regardless of the reason, I checked the safety and once making sure that everything is okay, I positioned myself and fired back towards the enemy. I shouted down a couple of enemies from the other side and checked the mag again and there are still bullets left in the magazine and it will be a waste if I reloaded it immediately. Our cover is doing a good job protecting us from the bullets, and the enemies are firing at us again in a merciless manner as they are giving us all the bullets that they have. I noticed that Troy is still not coming here, maybe nervous about the gunfight happening. “Hey!” I shouted at him. “Come here, we need your bombs here,” I told him, but no response. “Troy?!” I called again maybe my voice is not reaching him because of the loud gunshots, but yet still no response from him. Where I came from earlier is not that far from him so he will probably hear me even with this commotion. Leaving me with no choice, I decided to crawl towards that location to check what’s going on. Something is telling me that this is some bad omen but I rejected the thought. I prepared my gun and quickly pointed it towards his direction... “Stop, it’s me!” Troy shouted at me with both of his hands raised in the air. He is frantic. “What happened here?” I asked and he chuckled softly while still putting both of his hands up in the air as if I am still pointing my gun at him. “Ah n- nothing?” he told me with an unsure tone and I noticed that his eyes are not focused on my and looking at all directions as if someone is here with us now... my suspicions are raised and I raised my alert, as I am slowly coping up with what’s really happening here. “Why are you raising your hands?” I decided to play along and it is a good thing that Troy does not know my intentions and I must look clueless. “N- nothing?” he answered my question in an unsure manner, and chuckled very softly. “I think it’s a good exercise for my arms, like the squats,” he excused. Just like his eyes I am starting to observe the area while my face is still pointed at him and a notable detail, Troy is sweating very hard right now, meaning that he is extremely afraid and I just can’t see the danger that is lurking around us right now. I hold on tightly to my rifle. Then I concentrated ignoring Troy’s nervous laughter, and I started to feel their presence and when I opened my eyes, the cold metal in my head, I can feel it, a gun is sticking on my head right now, ready spill my brains out anytime. “Drop your gun,” a deep masculine voice commanded me. I don’t know how many of them are pointing their gun towards me right now. So, I slowly lower my body and carefully dropped the gun on the ground and still he did not put away the gun pointed at my head. I remained completely still and calm continuously assessing the situation. I faced to face with my comrade, Troy, who is now smiling awkwardly towards me, as if we are in a normal situation right now. I glared at him, and he is quietly, spooked. I am not angry on what he did, or being caught, it’s like he is treating this mission just like a party happening. “Boys,” he called and this is game time. “Come out now, we are having a party tonight,” he told his men and they stepped out of the shadows with their suits that can blend in on the color of their surroundings, maybe that’s why I did not noticed them with my naked eyes. I started to count the soldiers that comes out and at the same time generating the counter attack to them. There is a total of sixteen of them including this guy that is pointing his gun at me, and I look at Troy who is staring right straight to my eyes right now. I looked down on the ground repeatedly telling him, on what he should do because I have a plan now. “Sir there are other two there,” one of them told this guy while pointing Alexis and Gerick’s location. “They will come later, we already caught the big fish,” he told his sub-ordinate and I smirked, because this big fish that they caught is about to sink their boat down in the ocean. “Hey,” I called to him and I felt that he dug his gun to my head. “Quiet! I don’t want to hear any words coming out from your mouth,” he said and I try my best to hold my temper and just bit my lips. I calmed my head to assess the plan clearly. “Hey,” I called again unfazed from the threats that he just threw at me, and I felt that he pinned the gun harder against my head making me lower down my sight. “I just want to thank you,” I told him and I can say that his expression is probably confused by these sudden strange words. “What for?” he asked me and I smiled. “For bringing me the party right at me,” I told him and before he even pulls the trigger to plant a bullet in my head, I used my back to tackle him with such force enough to make him miss the shot. Troy immediately lies down on the ground and started crawling out from the crossfire. I gain my ground quickly and grabbed his body and quickly pulled out his knife and pointed it at his neck. I faced towards the enemy who is currently pointing their guns at us. “Don’t shoot!” he shouted; they better be if he doesn’t want to be man full of holes. When they raised their guns, I pinned the knife harder on his neck threatening him, if he does not order his men to stay down, I will definitely kill him. “I SAID DON’T SHOOT!” he shouted towards the men very angrily. I can see the veins on his neck appearing because of extreme rage. The enemy troops lowered their guns and it seems like that my threats are affecting them. It seems like that the person in my hands right now is very important. Then that’s more like it, then all of a sudden, I heard a metal rolling around... it came under me and almost instantly it released a smoke. It’s from Troy, I slashed this guy’s neck and I immediately ran around as they started firing their guns. I take back what I said about my hostage, he’s not that important at all.
