"Lower your weapons," Jax said. He did not raise his hands. He did not run. He stood completely still in front of the line of international soldiers, his face as calm as deep water.
The middle-aged commander with the scarred face didn't lower his gun. His finger tightened slightly on the golden trigger of his revolver. "You are in no position to give orders, Sovereign Lord. The Supreme Global Council has watched your Syndicate grow too large. You have crossed the line into international territory. Step forward, or my men will turn this convention hall into a graveyard."
The entire crowd of billionaires and elite business men scrambled toward the exit doors, screaming and trampling over chairs to escape. Within seconds, the grand hall was empty, except for the soldiers, the trembling figures of Vivian and her mother Beatrice, Madeline Vance, and Jax.
Vivian watched the scene from the corner, her fear suddenly turning into a twisted expression of joy. She wiped the tears of humiliation from her face and pointed a shaking finger at Jax. "Yes! Shoot him! He is a criminal! He stole my family's assets and lied about his identity! Kill him right here!"
"Shut your mouth, woman," the commander barked without looking at her. His eyes never left Jax. "This is a matter of global security. Your petty domestic problems mean nothing to the Council."
Madeline stood right beside Jax, her heart hammering against her ribs, but she refused to step away. She looked at the insignia on the commander's uniform. "Commander Eli of the International Peace Force... you are acting outside your jurisdiction. This is private property."
"The Council is the jurisdiction, Miss Vance," Commander Eli replied coldly. "And if you stand next to a traitor, you will be treated as one. Move away from him now."
Madeline looked at Jax, waiting for him to show fear. Instead, Jax casually reached into his pocket and pulled out a gold-embossed white card. He held it up between his index and middle fingers, showing it directly to the commander.
The moment Commander Eli saw the emblem on the card—a golden scale locked inside a dragon’s claw—his breathing completely stopped. The confidence in his eyes vanished, replaced by an absolute, paralyzing dread.
"That... that card," the commander stammered, his golden revolver shaking in his grip. "How do you have the Sovereign Crest of the Global Council's Founder?"
"Because the Supreme Global Council belongs to me, Commander," Jax whispered, his voice slicing through the cold air of the hall. "I created the treaty you are currently trying to enforce. Your superiors answer to my shadow council. Did you really think you could use my own laws against me?"
The soldiers behind the commander looked at each other in confusion, their rifles lowering slightly as they sensed the sudden shift in power.
"No... this is a fake!" Beatrice screamed from the background, unable to accept that the man she had kicked out into the rain was now holding the fate of global armies in his hand. "Commander, don't listen to him! He's just an unemployed loser! He lived in my basement for three years! Shoot him!"
"Beatrice, shut up!" Thomas Vance suddenly yelled, running into the hall from the side entrance, his face drenched in sweat. He fell to his knees right in front of Jax, grabbing the edge of Jax's tailored trousers. "Sovereign Lord! Please! I didn't tell them anything! I swear I kept the secret! Please save my private accounts! My family will starve!"
The commander looked down at the kneeling billionaire, then back at Jax’s cold, unblinking eyes. He realized he had walked into a trap of his own making.
"Stand down!" Commander Eli suddenly shouted to his men, his voice cracking with fear. He quickly holstered his weapon and bowed his head deeply toward Jax. "Forgive me, Sovereign Lord. My intelligence reports were altered. I was told an international terrorist had infiltrated the city. I did not know..."
"You did not know your own master," Jax corrected smoothly, slipping the white card back into his breast pocket. "Who gave you the false intelligence report, Commander?"
The commander swallowed hard, his face turning pale. "The report came from the Ironworks faction terminal... specifically signed by Vivian’s older brother, George."
Jax slowly turned his head to look at Vivian. She froze, her entire body trembling as the realization hit her like a physical blow. Her brother hadn't just tried to kill Jax with assassins; he had tried to use the international military to erase him.
"George is currently at the city's private docks," Jax’s lead lawyer announced, stepping out from the shadows near the stage with his tablet open. "He has packed all the remaining corporate cash into a private yacht and is preparing to flee the country."
"He won't make it to international waters," Jax said coldly. He turned to Commander Eli. "Since your men are already armed, consider this your chance to redeem your life. March to the docks. Seize the yacht. Bring George to me. If he is missing a single hair on his head before I can question him, you will take his place in the execution line."
"Yes, sir! Immediately, sir!" Commander Eli
roared, turning to his soldiers. "Move out! Target the private docks! Go, go, go!"
The soldiers rushed out of the hall, their heavy boots thudding against the marble floor until the room was quiet once more.
Vivian collapsed to the floor next to her mother, her eyes completely vacant. In less than twenty-four hours, she had gone from a proud corporate heiress to a divorced woman whose entire family was facing absolute annihilation.
Jax didn't look at her. He turned to Madeline, who was staring at him with a mixture of awe and deep suspicion.
"You are a very complicated man, Jax," Madeline said softly, her sharp eyes scanning his face. "You told me you were just a doctor."
"I am a doctor, Madeline," Jax replied, offering his arm to her once more. "But sometimes, to heal a city, you have to cut out the cancer yourself. Let's go to the registry. Our marriage needs to be official before the sun sets."
Madeline smiled, a genuine spark of respect finally appearing in her eyes as she linked her arm with his. "Then let's not waste any time, husband."
They walked out of the convention center, leaving Vivian and Beatrice weeping in the middle of the ruined hall. The luxury limousine drove them through the clear city streets toward the central administrative building. The marriage license was stamped and signed within ten minutes. Jax was now officially a member of the Vance family, and Madeline held absolute control over the Vance Group.
As they stepped back into the car, Jax's private phone buzzed in his pocket. He pulled it out and answered the call.
"Speak," Jax ordered.
"Sovereign Lord," Commander Eli's voice came through the speaker, sounding breathless and terrified. "We have a major problem at the docks. We captured the yacht, but George isn't here. We found his body in the cabin... and a blood-stained letter addressed directly to you."
Jax’s eyes narrowed into dark slits. "What does the letter say?"
"It says your real name, sir," the commander whispered, his voice shaking. "And it says... *The Drake Syndicate belongs to the true shadow now. Your father’s real killer is coming for your throne tonight.*"
