Conrad POV
The years fell away the longer I stared at her, she looked so different... her skin was pale, black lined her eyes, her hair was longer.
But her eyes remained the same.
Her scent, I drank it in, caramel and Vanilla..
"Conrad?" Ivy asked, breaking me from my thoughts.
"Yes." I answered, flushing again, f**k.
"You seem different.." She started, I was different. The last time I'd seen her she'd forgiven Kon and not me, My pride was hurt but my heart took the full blow.
Since then, I'd done nothing but reflect. How could I not the reminder was there to greet me every morning when I gazed in the mirror.
One black eye and one silver.
"I reflected." I replied, Ivy's gaze weighed me, then she looked away.
Her gaze falls on the girl behind the counter who looks up from her phone. Blushing, she races to the kitchen, reappearing with a steak and a mug.
"Apologies! It's on the house! I completely forgot..." she spluttered nervously, her eyes never flickering to me.
"Sure you did.." Ivy replied before her eyes landed on me. "You're not going to thank her? Beta?" I nearly choked. Blinking Ivy smirked at me, before cutting into her steak, it took her attention, as I grit my teeth.
She wasn't slow, I nodded to the service girl, she blushed and rushed away.
"You knew?" I asked, she nodded chewing. "Since when?"
She looked up, her eyes causing me to catch my breath, how'd I ever let her go?
She swallowed before answering, motioning towards the door with her fork.
"Since you bust in.. she'd been starstruck by me when I'd sat down, I was just wondering who'd get here and find me first.." She finished with a shrug.
"And Broc?" I asked with distaste, Noticing with curiosity as Ivy stiffened, before replying.
"Not my problem." She said icily, my heart clenched, Ohhh he'd f**k up somehow.. Not wanting to push further, I just nodded.
"Fair enough." I coughed out, Ivy pierced me with a glare, and I looked away.
As I heard the door chime again.
"Found you." Came a growl. I swiveled to find an out of breath Jace, he about to add something when he's shoved to the side, as a barreling force came towards us.
"Ivy!!!!" Came a Shriek as Florain came rocketing towards us, tears streaming down her face, Ivy dropped her utensils standing to meet her embrace.
"Ahh!" Ivy stumbled at the force reaching out, I grabbed her hand to steady her as Florain buried her head in Ivy's hair sobbing.
"I missed youuuuu SOoooo Muchhh!" Came the desperate words, Ivy chuckled, meeting my eyes she mouthed thank you, and returned her friends embrace.
I felt Jace brush up beside me, he leaned in close as he spoke.
"You are so dead later." He grumbled. I turned to him as he straightened.
"Florain beat me to hurry up all the way here and curse your name to the high heavens. You could have given me a heads up!" he grumbled further, I felt my eyes crinkle a little, Jace's eyes flittered to mine and stayed.
"You're smiling.." He remarked, I frowned, but it was too late, he elbowed me. "So wasn't a waste you coming here?" I shrugged.
"Nah, we cleared the air a little." I replied quietly, he nodded.
Ivy POV
I looked up as the door opened, of course, Jace stood in the doorway, he was out of breath and seething he pointed at Conrad, shouting accusations, when he was shoved to the side forcefully.
I blinked as a shriek pierced the air.
"Ivyy!!!!" Florain Cried out, I nearly choked, as emotion bubbled up.
"Flo..." I breathed, she came hurtling towards me.
"I Missed Youuuu Soooooo Muchhh!!!" She exaggerated every word, I stood ready to meet her as she flung her arms open and tumbled into me, I rocked backwards at the force, reaching out a hand, another grasped mine.
I met Conrad's gaze, "thank you" I mouthed, he nodded, then once I steadied, he released my hand and I returned Flo's hug.
"I miss you.." Flo continued to mumbling into my hair, I nodded, a sniffle escaping me as my eyes prickled with tears.
"Me too Flo..Me too.." I returned her embrace, finally after a few minutes we released each other.
I looked over her shoulder.
"Jace" I nodded.
"Ivy.." He smiled politely, Conrad looked uncomfortably, he must know.
I swallowed, Florain was glowing up at me.
"I've got some news!" She grinned, I couldn't help but return a smile.
"Yeah me too.." I replied with less enthusiasm.
It felt like a different time with us all standing here, but I knew this would be a short visit, but I didn't want to burst Flo's bubble just yet.
"Why don't you come stay at the pack house?" Conrad offered, I snapped my gaze to him.
He visibly flinched before adding.
"Just for the night so you and Flo can.." he trailed off, I sighed.
"I promise there'll be no um.. re-enactment.." He tried to reassure me, the thought struck me like a knife to the chest, as the painful memory surfaced, I shook it away, as Flo snarled at Conrad insentivity.
I took a deep breath, that's not me now, that was in the past.
"Sure, one night." I managed with a wince.
Flo watched me cautiously.
I patted her arm.
"It'll be fine." I reassured her instead. I nodded and the boys turned, leading the way. Jace exited first and Conrad held the door as Florain passed, then nodded for me to do the same.
He was dragging up feelings, both bittersweet and tainted.
Where was this guy 2 years ago? Not that I cared now I had Broc now... didn't I?
Regardless, I didn't need anyone, but somehow a naive high school girl bubble up in the nostalgia of his presence.
Conrad POV
I held the door as Ivy passed. It could be seen as gentlemanly, but in truth, I took the opportunity to sniff at her intoxicating scent.
I felt Kon rise to the surface.
"Is that?" He asked via mindlink.
"Yes," I replied.
"My lost love.." he whispered before retreating once more.
I grimaced, but he wasn't wrong.
Florain POV
Ivy looked so different, I wouldn't have recognised her had her eyes not remained the same.
I was bubbling with excitement, I had her back! Ivy was first and only true friend, things had not been smooth since I'd moved to the pack, I'd never quite clicked with the other wolves, though it wasn't unusual for a mate to come from another pack, I had't been welcomed.
I'd never done anything to earn it, but I was an outcast, some from the jealously as Jace had been awarded as the Alpha once Conrad was demoted.
But even before that, I just hadn't fit with their way of thinking. She-wolves warriors were looked down upon and me, being as such had shoved another wedge, between the pack and myself.
Jace had been working to change their mindset, but had yet to succeed, despite the respect they had for him, he was still seen as a back up, Conrad was whom they wanted to follow, but he'd retreated from the spotlight months ago.
But right now none of that mattered, not my hardships, or loneliness, or wishes because I had all I wanted right now.
Ivy.
Sitting next to me in the flesh, whether for one night, a year or a lifetime.
I just needed her company to keep me going right now.
"Flo... Flo.. Flo!" Ivy's voice pulled me back to the present.
"Yes!" I replied, "Sorry."
"Thought I'd lost you there! haha." She smiled, I returned it with my own unrestrained smile.
That's it, enjoy as long as she is here, this is enough right now.
