KELLAN POV CONTINUE She was about to answer me when the apartment door opened, stopping her from answering me. I went on high alert as both of us looked towards the door to see a woman entering. She had some of my little mate’s futures, so I’m guessing she is Crystal's mom. I relaxed knowing that it was only her mom and not an intruder. Her mom dropped everything on the floor and hurried over to Crystal before throwing her arms around her and bringing her into a tight embrace. “Oh my baby, what happened? Are you okay? Do I need to take you to the doctor’s office...” she rapidly fired one question after the other at Crystal, not once breaking the embrace. They clearly had a close mother-daughter bond between them, which was nice. “Mom, I’m fine. I do have a concoction and the occasional headache and dizziness, but I’m okay. I just have to rest, that’s all. Shouldn’t you be at work still?” she breaks the embrace and stare at her mother. “Oh honey I couldn’t stay there knowing something had happened. I had to make sure you were okay for myself. Mr. Gustavo gave me the afternoon off when he heard what happened to you. You know he adores you honey? And before you say anything, I will work in lunch tomorrow and the rest of the week to make up the time I took.” I almost let the vicious growl escape me at the mention of another male that adores my mate. I did, however, refine, of doing so but I did draw attention to myself for the first time since she entered the room by moving. That caught her mother’s attention as it turned her attention to me. “Hey, sorry, where are my manners? I am Alice, Crystal’s mother. You must be the young man that they said would take her home. Thank you so much. I hope it was not too much trouble?” her mother spoke, looking at me. “Good day ma’am. I’m Kellan, and it was no trouble at all.” Her mother turned to her and whispered something in her ear. I used some of my enhanced hearing to hear what she was whispering about. “He is quite handsome honey? They didn’t say the boy would be this handsome?” that made me smile seeing her cheeks starting to tint a light shade of red before she swatted her mom on the shoulder, whining. “Mom! Stop it. I don’t have time for boys and guys like him don’t date girls like me. I don’t even know him. He’s just a classmate that helped me after what happened.” She spoke. I wanted to interject that she was wrong, that I did want her and that she was exactly my type, but how could I? It’s not that I can say “hey you’re my other half of my soul” or whatever. Besides, she might think I’m just trying to get laid and that isn’t true. Her mother then turns her head to me and eyes me suspiciously. Whatever she was looking for she seemed to have found it as she had a knowingly look crossed her face. She didn’t say anything and turned back to her daughter. “If you say so, I’ll drop it for now. Besides, I want to know what happened? They were pretty vague in the phone call about what happened to you getting hurt in the first place. All they said was that you had a concoction and that you should take it easy for the next couple of days.” She spoke, dropping me as a topic to focus on what really matter. “Mom, it really isn’t a big deal.” Her mother looked at her, waiting for her to continue but only receiving silent. She then turns her attention to me with an intense stare that would make a normal person intimidated. But to me, it was only adorable. I'm an alpha. I do not break that easily. I had to think fast about what I was going to do here. For me, I only had two options to work with. Spill the details and have a very pissed off mother and pissed off mate or keep my mouth shut and have a happy mate and slightly irritated mother. I don’t like the idea of my mate being mad at me, but her mother has the right to know about what happened. So I went with something in between. “Long story short. One of the girls had made some strong accusations about Crystal and when she corrected them, the girl lost her temper and hit Crystal. Only after the girl was sent out and Crystal returned to her seat did she pass out.” I spoke my half lie, but that was a mistake. “She did what?!” her mother yelled, even I had to flinch at the tone of her voice. She jumped up and started passing the floor of the living room. Crystal started massaging her temples. I guess she had a headache. After a minute, she shot me a glare before standing up and blocking her mother’s way and taking hold of her arms. “Mom, please stop passing, you are making me dizzy and please tone it down. I have a headache that feels like someone is pounding it with a hammer inside my head.” my mate exclaimed. “Sorry honey. I’m just so mad at the fact that you got hurt. What is the girl’s problem anyway? Why did she make those accusations, and where were the teachers that they couldn’t do their jobs and put a stop to it before you got hurt? I want that girl punished and paid for causing this.” I can understand her mother’s anger at the fact that Crystal was hurt. Hell I’m even furious at the fact that I didn’t step in sooner. I could have prevented her being hurt, but my dam ass was frozen in my seat and because of that I will never let the fact down that I let her get hurt. I vow that from this day forward that I will make it my job that she doesn’t get hurt ever. One way is to start with Stacy getting punished properly for hurting my Luna and mate. I send a quick link to my beta “Get the pack together for a pack meeting at 8 tonight.” “Yes Alpha” I close the link and snapped back to the conversation, only hearing the last part of whatever Crystal said. “… Mom, I’m okay now. Please just leave it at that?” Her mother’s shoulders sagged at her daughter's request, but nonetheless, she complies with it, letting out a breath of frustration before falling back onto the couch. She can only comply with an “Okay”, leaving it at that.
