Disappointed

His words bring a sharp pain to my chest and I fall. I knelt on the floor with tears streaming down my face, the pain from having your partner reject you burning through me. Damien stares at me with cold eyes, watching me writhe in pain. “Make sure you tell no one that you were my mate. I would be embarrassed if the pack finds out that the moon goddess gave them a Luna like you,” He spits out with disgust and I look away, trying to focus on the pain that threatened to kill me. My vision blurred and the room started to spin, the last thing I saw was his feet before the darkness took over and my head hit the floor. I opened my eyes, groaning in the pain with my head aching. Looking around, I realized that I was still lying on the kitchen floor and last night was not a dream. I was hoping it was a dream, but I still wanted to cling to the tiny hope that my mate would love me and not reject me. Who would have thought that Damien would be my mate? The moon goddess surely jokes in cruel ways. Did she want me to suffer so much that she gave me a man that hated me? Trying to get on my feet, I am met with a sharp pain that pushes me back to the floor. I bit my lips as my eyes watered, reminding me once more that I got rejected. Slowly I pick myself up, dragging my feet back to my room and falling on the bed. I looked at my wall clock and it read 4:15 AM, I had less than an hour to sleep a bit and start another day in this place. Closing my eyes, I drift into a world of dreamless sleep. My alarm beeped and I opened my eyes, pushing myself off the bed. Quickly brushing my teeth and showering, I put a dress on and rushed out of my room. I have to help the chef cook, scrub the floors, and prune the gardens today. I hope I avoid Damien for the rest of the day because I won't be able to face him. I get to the kitchen and the pack cook is there already, she gives me a stink eye the moment I step into the kitchen, her eyes following my movement as I walk closer. “Get all these cut in fifteen minutes and don't move around lazily.” She yells at me and I immediately get to work. The pack cook is someone who has been here for ages, she was here with the previous Alpha and Luna so naturally she says I killed them and she hates me too. Each time I think back to that day I couldn't help but believe them when they say that I killed them. If I stayed back as she told me to, then they wouldn't have died. Breakfast was prepared very quickly and served, soon the dining table was filled with both children and adults. Damien sits at the head of the table with Kati beside him. She looked at me and smiled smugly, placing her hands on his own. It seemed as if she knew about last night. I was about to turn and leave when she called my name, stopping me in my tracks “Where are you going, Freya? I have something important to say after eating, so you have to stay here too." Kati says with a smirk on her face, I look at Damien but he pays no attention to me, looking at Kati like she is his world. Has their relationship always been this way? What changed between them? I stood by the side quietly, waiting for them to be done eating and for Kati to say what she wanted to. Amelie gets my attention from across the room, a questioning looks on her face as if to ask what Kati was up to. I shrugged in response, unable to tell what Kati wanted to say. “Attention seeker." Amelie mouthed and I coughed, trying to hide my chuckle. Damien and Kati turned to me with a frown on their faces. I turned my attention to the floor, trying to avoid their gazes and fighting the smile that was about to break out. A while later everyone was finally done eating, the plates were taken away but we all remained. Clearing her throat, Kati stood up while Damien watched her affectionately. “When my parents died years ago, you all took care of me and made me feel the love of a family." She started saying, addressing the pack members that remained in the dining room. Amelie yawned and rolled her eyes, and I gave her a stern look while shaking my head. Turning my attention to Kati I found her looking at me with annoyance. “Is there a problem?" She asked me, causing everyone to turn to me, each person looking at me with annoyance, mirroring her expression. “Not at all. Please continue." I coughed and looked away. “Like I was saying, I want to thank you all for how you treated me. And since you are family I would like to announce a very happy news. Damien and I are going to be parents soon." She announces, turning to look at Damien with a very affectionate look. Her words were like a bomb dropped on me, my heart breaking into pieces. She is pregnant with Damien's child? She being pregnant with the Alpha's heir automatically makes her the Luna. I wasn't expecting anything from Damien but I couldn't help but feel the way I was feeling right now. The whole room erupted in joyous shouts, each person going to congratulate her. Amelie raises her brow from across the room, concern showing on her face. “What's wrong?" She mouths to me. Forcing a smile on my face, I shake my head at her. I wanted to tell her I was fine but the words choked in my throat and I could only fake a smile while clapping lightly. It was no wonder Damien rejected me, I couldn't even use the mind link because I hadn't gotten my wolf yet. Everyone got their wolves at a younger age but I had just turned 18 yet no sign of a wolf. Kati looked at me, smirking triumphantly at me while Damien held her. She wanted to show me that she won. Damien chose her over me. Everyone flooded around her and I used this as my chance to escape. “Freya wait!” Amelie called from behind me, running after me. I paused in my tracks but I didn't turn around, my heart aching for reasons I didn't know. “What's wrong?" Amelie asks me, turning me around to look at my face. She sees the tears in my eyes and his face softens. She pulls me into a hug causing the tears I was fighting to get loose. “Why are you crying?" She asked me softly. “I don't know," I cry out, the tears flowing out of my eyes like a river. “I know you wanted Damien to be your mate, but have hope okay?" She says, tightening her hold around me. “He was," I sniffled, cleaning my eyes. It was stupid for me to cry, I don't even know why I am crying. I wasn't expecting anything but still. “What do you mean he was?" She looks at my face, disbelief written on her face. “Last night. I found out that Damien was my mate, but he rejected me. And I think Kati knows that's why she made the announcement today.” I said, feeling a little bit hurt. I felt stupid for even feeling this way. "I thought your birthday wasn't till next week?” She looked surprised as she asked. "Surprise surprise,” I say sarcastically, sniffling once more. “I feel so sorry love,” Amelie pulled me into a hug once more and I gladly accepted it, wrapping my arms around her. I don't need anyone else, as long as she was by my side I would be happy. " They don't deserve your tears. Wipe it off," She pulls away, cleaning my eyes with her palm causing me to chuckle. “So tell me. Did you get your wolf? What color is she? What's her name?” She rushes out, excitement evident in her tone. She notices the sad look in my eyes and she frowns lightly. " Don't tell me you didn't get a wolf too,” She asks disappointed.
