Sin of Lust by Swapie Achilles
CHAPTER X
OCTOBER
The weapon looks like two metal poles tied in a shape of an L with a ruby stone on the intersection of two pieces of rod. It looks simple but it wasn’t look dull at all, for the color of night is embedded through it, making it look like a bladeless scythe that will hook one in to sinning.
“Father Daleon!” kids beamed and run to surround him with cheery voices and shouts of admiration, to which Daleon immediately retract the weapon and turns in to a necklace on his neck.
“You’re amazing father Daleon! How can you do that?! You chase them away!” they cheered, putting their hands up as if they’re giving him hoorays.
“What is that, father Daleon? That necklace?” Caspire asked him, pointing his little index finger on his neck.
Daleon kneel in front of him pulled the necklace from his neck letting the L-shaped pendant hang from its chain and the ruby reflected from the rays of sun, “This is Luxuria’s cross,” he told them.
“This cross is bestowed by Luxuria himself to the first high priest so when things like that happen, when someone wants to hurt his children this will protect them.” He whispered to them.
“But, did he allow to hurt someone?” Benzel asked, “you told us it’s bad to hurt people.”
Daleon took a deep breath and caresses his face, “Listen… you what a goat is?”
Benzel nods.
“What about the carabaos?” He asked once more.
“Yes, I saw it once.” He mumbled.
“They have huge horns, right? On their heads. You see, they use that not to hurt others, but to protect themselves. The god gave them that, for them not to go in a battle empty handed, so when the time comes, they can protect themselves when they have no one to do that for them.”
“So, it’s not bad to hurt others?” Benzel asked once more.
“It’s bad to hurt others, but there are times where you have to hurt others in order to protect those who you love.” He mumbled and gently pinch his cheeks.
Caspire’s eyes are glistening with amazement along with series of audible astound. Along with the nuns that witness his heroic deed. The reverend pats his head for the last time before he stood up and walk to talk with the nuns.
“Please bring the kids inside, and prepare the payment of that man’s jacket.” He sends them a smile. “We never know when will he return to bring havoc again.”
They immediately did his orders. “As you wish, high priest.” They bowed and proceeded inside.
The twins and Blanche were escorted inside by Mary Jane who’s spacing around, “Is that the Luxuria’s cross sister Novelyn was talking about?” she asked internally. “Is that one of the seven…”
“Sister Mary?” Caspire pulled Mary’s skirt, “where are you going?”
Mary Jane was confused at first and she decided to look around only to see that she’s walking on the path that leads to the playground, “O-Oh, I was just looking if uh… there are still laundry hanging.” She smiled and blatantly lied at him and extended her hand for him to hold it.
“Let’s go, you must be hungry.” They slowly walk to the dining hall of the convent’ their house.
“You bet I am!” Caspire beamed.
This made Mary’s anxiety decreases, it’s good to see that the kid finally moved on, “Then let’s eat till our stomach burst!” she chimed and pulls him up so she could carry him.
The day is finally done and the twins along with Mary Jane are putting the young ones in to sleep. They are tucking them in the warmth of their blankets and putting out the fires of lamps.
“Goodnight, everyone.” The greeted them which they only receive mumbles and soft snores from them.
Melody and Micah close their eyes, but after a who minute when they don’t hear anything that determine when someone is awake, they immediately open their eyes and nods at each other. When they are finally out of their room their move to get Blanche from the adjacent quarter.
After they get the kid, they proceeded to the library, where they saw Mary Jane in the table with a lamp in front of her while she reads the diary on her hand. The older woman heard the creak of the door and this gains her attention.
And without thinking twice, Melody screeched, “Why does he-?!”
She was cut off when Micah clump her hand on her mouth to prevent her from shouting. To which she successfully did. She contains her sister’s voice on her palm.
“What is that?!” Micah asked in an utter panic, the same thing her sister wants to asked. “Why does he have that?!”
“Calm down, Micah,” Blanche pats her sister’s shoulder to calm her down.
“I think, that’s Luxuria’s cross.” Mary Jane stated,
“Luxuria?” Micah asked, “as in, Luxuria, the god?”
Blanche nodded, Mary Jane pulled the diary of Novelyn form her hiding spot. And she read the passage again, “I can’t stand it, anymore. I can’t stand the whimpers and cries of my children, so I must do it. I’ve been wishing for so long but it seems like Luxuria will never hear me. so, I will do it myself. Tonight, I will end the sufferings of my child, and the others too. I will not let him touch any of my child. This may not be successful for he has the cross of Luxuria but I must try. The sinner, Novelyn.”
“Is that sister Noveyln’s” Melody asked referring to the notebook.
Mary Jane nodded and let them see the notebook.
“By the way she wrote it, it seems like she knew something,” Micah commented.
“The whimpers and cries of my children?” Melody exhaled, “just how many? How many of us…”
“Blanche hugs her, “Let’s stop this… please. I want older sister Hannie will the last one to suffer”
Melody hugs her back and said swallow her sobs, “We will…” she whispered.
“We have to get the necklace from him.” Micah said.
“Wait, how are we going to do that?” Mary Jane asked them.
“We’re going to steal it.” Melody proclaimed, “It’s bad to hurt others, but there are times where you have to hurt others in order to protect those who you love. He said those, one necklace wouldn’t hurt so bad.” She said with a wide grin.
