“Huh?” Ali rubbed the sleepiness from her eyes, “What’s going on? Where are we?”
“We are on the escape.” Blanche grunted from underneath her, to which the child immediately stood up and asked, “Are you alright, sister? Oh my God, I'm so sorry!”
“Y-Yeah, I'm alright.” Blanche granted as she stood up. But since she has no strength like she usually does, this is a hard task for her.
“Hurry up. They are still after us.” Stephen said while Dean Made his way towards Ali.
“Are you alright, Ali? Can you walk? Can you run?” Dean asked as he crouched down in front of her, indication for her to climb up on his back.
“Don't worry, Dean. I can handle myself now. Thank you.” Ali said with a smile.
“Alright then, let's go.”
“Guys I have to warn you again. We have to be as silent as possible.” Steven warned them. “We are getting close to that place.”
“What place?” Blanche asked But in her mind only Because she needs to be silent as well. But her question was immediately answered when they finally arrived at the certain place. Where scars on the trees are predominant and big.
She found herself having a hard time breathing when she saw the marks Stephen was talking about. The marks are so huge that it isn't even close to the size of a bear, “Larger than the bear is an understatement. These marks are way too big than the bears.” She whispered-yell.
“That is right, Sister. That's why we have to be careful while crossing these paths.” Stephen mumbled under his breath, trying to be as quiet as possible.
“Is there any safer path we can take?” Blanche asked as she started to hesitate going further.
“This is the safest way we can take, sister. Because the other routes were recently marked by the beasts.” He responded. “By the mark that they left on the trees, I can tell that the marks are only made at least 2months.”
“We have to be alert at all times.” Blanche convinced herself to be alert. But as if on cue, they heard a very low and loud growl that resonates throughout the field. Resulting for them to immediately halt from their tracks.
“What is that?” The little ones start to panic. However, their questions remained unheard since no one wants to say a word and be the cause of attention.
The growl seems to be getting louder and louder as they remain in that location and circling around them. They can hear the rustle of links and bushes that are being crushed under the pressure of the beast. And because of this, they can tell how fast he's going.
“It's really fast.” They all thought in unison.
Even though Blanche is tired she still readied her stance so in case that the beast came close to them she's ready to subdue it.
"Luxuria…" she mumbled the name of the god, which took the children by surprise.
"Kay~"
Their eyes were wide open as they saw her holding a bladeless scythe. But soon their surprise was immediately replaced by fear when they heard another growl, and this time it is so much closer than earlier. Whimpers are starting to erupt and small cries of the children begin to get louder.
"There they are, come on! Move faster!" The voice from one of those who are chasing them was heard from behind them and this time the children and Blanche don't know what to do because they can't go forward since there's a beast that is surely out of their league lurking in the dark, and waiting just for the right moment to devour all of them all at once, but they could not go back because they are being haunted by the mayor's men.
By this time children began to emit a series of cries. Luckily Dean is there to comfort them but he, as well, doesn't have any idea what to do in this situation.
So the only thing he could do as of now is to wipe the tears on their faces and cover their mouths so they wouldn't release loud noises.
"It's alright, it's alright, everything will be alright. Calm down." He whispered against their ears but he himself couldn't even contain his own tears. He repeatedly muttered those words as if he was comforting himself as well."It's ok, it's ok nothing's going to happen…"
Blanche readied herself and her weapon, clutching the shaft tighter as she narrowed her eyes so it could adjust to the dark environment. Those who are chasing them are getting closer and the beast lurking around is just almost under their noses.
"Everyone, on the ground." Blanche muttered, to which everyone did.
"Come on, move! get them before they even start running away again!"
But before the man who are chasing them finally got closer to them the beast lunged, immediately decapitating some heads and bodies.
The children can see what happened because those who are after them are carrying lights so everything is clear in their sight. The gruesome and cruel occurrence brought dread to the younger ones, that's why Dean put his hand over Ali's eyes.
While the beast is devouring them, Stephen decided to get up and said, "Let's go while the beast is busy."
Blanche nodded her head since at this time, walking away from the danger is a must. "Let's go, move." She simply stated and they began to move.
"Ali, Ali… let's go" dinner's the kid to move, however she's not responding at all because her eyes are still fixated on what's happening. Dean saw all of these, that's why he decided to carry her instead.
