CHAPTER 55

Blanche narrowed her eyes as she looked up above, by the way she saw things, they had no way out. The ceiling where they fall from is too high for them to even climb using their own hands. But she only held her stuff tighter and let out a challenged smirk as she said, "Come on let's fly off." "What do you mean, fly off?" "What it literally means." She grinned, "I'm going to send you up above." "Wait so you're going to throw us up there?" "I know you're getting it, now go on and tell me who wants to go first." Everyone backs away from her idea, since no one wants to die that fast. The distance from the ceiling and the floor where they are standing is too much to calculate just by seeing it. "Sister, I don't think that's possible–" Lino was cut off when all of a sudden Blanche butted in. "Ok so we have a volunteer, come forward, Lino!" She chimed. "What I did was that I was volunteering, I was saying that I don't think it's possible!" The child retorted. "That's nonsense. Come on, I'll throw you up and you'll be good I promise." She gave him a reassuring smile but of course the doubtful Lino didn't believe her "Hey–" but even before she could say something Blanche already had a grip on his shoulder. "Here we go!" She said and threw Lino up above, earning a loud shriek from him. While he is in the air Blanche shouted, "Oh, I forgot to tell you I'm going to throw you twice! First, I need you to scan the surroundings before I can send all of you out there." "What?!" When Lino finally reaches the maximum gravity he finally falls down thinking that he will smash his face against the ground but before he could even hit the floor, Blanche slows down his motion. "Are you all right?" She asked but Lino was too stunned to even say anything. "Sister, I don't think he saw anything," Stephen butted in. "What do you mean? I throw him just above the whole so he can have a good view." "Lino is afraid of heights. I'm sure all he can think of is the height aside from the view." Mildred said as she let out a sheepish smile. “You can throw me up instead of him. I can handle that height.” She suggested. Blanche nodded with her suggestion, and then proceeded to grab her hand. “OK, here I go. I'm gonna throw you in three, two… one!” And then threw her up above, when she managed to take a peek from the hole she saw nothing, just the usual trees. She finally dropped down and she was caught by Blanche. “So, how was it?” She asked the little girl while carrying her in her arms. “Did you see anything?” “I saw nothing. We are safe to go.” She responded. And then one by one, Blanche proceeded to throw the children up. She first threw the three oldest and then followed by the second oldest and third the youngest ones. And just after a while, they finally get out from the hole. After the hole, they proceeded to continue their journey. “We should stop here and make a camp.” Blanche suggested to the children. “It's going down, so we have to prepare for this evening.” The children went to obey her instructions and they proceeded to lay their own blankets on the ground. While Blanche proceeded to be the lookout, until Mildred went to her side, “Sister, I will be the one who will watch for tonight.” “No, I’m fine, just get some rest and we will be going before the sun rises.” Blanche said. But Mildred insisted, “Sister, your wounds haven’t fully healed yet, you’re the one who should take a rest. Besides, I'm all good since I got a good and complete sleep.” “Are you sure you’re fine?” Blanche asked, to which Mildred only replied with a vibrant smile and cheerful nod. “Well, then, don’t hesitate to call me when you need something, okay?” “Yes, sister. Got it.” They have been traveling all this time to a straight path where Mary Jane told them to go, they don’t have any map nor compass to guide them on their way, just their faith in each other and the hope that eventually they will arrive to where they are destined to be. However, on their way, food and water became scarce, but luckily there are fruit-bearing trees where they can eat and replenish and there are even fruits that contain water. But because of how far they have been gone they haven't found any place to stay, a place where they can live, a place that Mary Jane has told them. The hopelessness they have been feeling that are gradually eating their fire burning hope is getting stronger as the day passes by without them knowing where to go, and attitude that the countless monsters they have been facing all this time. "Sister, do you think we will be able to find that place?" Dean asked as he took a bite of an apple from his hand. Although she's eating, Blanche can tell that he's losing his appetite from the fact that it's been hours since he decided to eat the apple but until now it isn't even half. "We will, I promise." She replied to him, "Nunna will never lead us to something that we will get hurt." "You're right now no will never want us to get hurt." "But where are we now? You don't even know how many days have passed. I'm starting to think that there's nothing out there for us. We are just chasing for something that will never be in our hands. Something that she made us believe but the truth is there's really nothing out here." Blanche looked at them and saw they were getting hopeless and darker than the usual vibrant colors of their orbs. She tried to cheer them up but the sadness enveloping their hearts is more powerful than her words. "Come on guys we just got off from our rest, we have to keep going to our next destination–" she was cut off when all of a sudden one of the children suddenly dropped down on the ground.
