Second Chances, Big Choices

Warmth, the beautiful warmth that was wrapped around my body had me waking up with a peaceful smile. I stretched a bit as I felt the arms tighten around me. Looking up, I was Theon smiling down at me. "Good morning my beautiful mate."

Returning his smile I softly kissed his jawline, "Good morning my love."

My heart was filled with so much love and I felt so good. This man made me feel better about myself then Luke could have ever. Verena was always very pleased we our second chance mate.

Our peaceful moment was ruined by a knock at the door. Theon groaned, "yes?"

A deep voice could be heard from the other side. "It's Damien, Alpha Theon. I have something interesting to tell you."

Theon got up grumbling "hold on." he looked over at me a mumbled. Looking down at myself I was just wearing shorts and a tank top before I knew a hoodie was being tossed my way. Sliding it on over my head, I look to Theon.

He seemed satisfied as he told Damien to enter. He sat down on the couch "So, what problem do we have now besides a sad pup who blew his chance with a pretty girl?" I blushed deeply.

Damien's face said this was serious, "I overheard him and his father arguing. His father wants me to claim Jade before you do." Theon's jaw tensed. Damien continued, "He wants to take our Luna from us before she even gets the chance to be Luna of the blood moon pack."

Theon rested his head on his hand, "must suck for him then, because at the end of the day she is mine now and no little pup or his daddy will get me to turn away my mate."

My heart fluttered in my chest at his words. I knew I'd be safe.

Damien smiled, "Alpha, we will need to come up with an escape plan then."

With that we spent the rest of the day coming up with a way for us to get out of here and to escape from the Blue mist pack. Once we had a solid plan in place, we made our way to my family home. I had to pack my bags before Luke or Alpha Mark caught wind of them trying to get me out of here.

I sat there deep in my thoughts with my open suitcase in front of me. Theon told me to pack a few important things that I didn't want to leave behind that he had to make a few calls before we left tonight. My family wasn't too happy to learn about what the Alpha was planning and decided that after I was marked by Theon and I marked him that they too would be joining the Blood moon pack. Theon was thrilled as he knew my father was a strong trainer.

A knock came at my door as my brother walked in, "Jade this doesn't look like packing."

I looked up at him, "I'm just worried, Jay. What if Luke finds out? I don't want to be Luke's mate."

He looked at me sadly, "I know, Jade. He doesn't have the right to claim you after rejecting you."

I sighed softly and stood up as I went back to grab a few things. "I wish you could come with me tonight, but that would be too obvious... I know he'll know tonight once I cross the territory border. I just." I pause, "Promise me if it goes south, you guys will leave. I can't leave not knowing that my family isn't safe."

Jay pulled me into a hug as I felt myself crying. "We promise, Jade. We will get out of here if I sniff out even the worse thing coming our way."

I nodded. It made me feel better, and I know I had to talk to Theon.

Theon and I decided to go out and grab something to eat at a few of my favorite places because we didn't know when I'd be able to come back. It wasn't easy. Just 2 weeks ago I was ready to become captain of the Alpha's guard and now here I am ready to escape with a man and become his Luna. It's funny how the moon goddess does things.

We walked peacefully down the strip hand in hand. It felt like a dream. The little girl inside me was so happy to be here at this moment. Just the feeling of being loved and accepted by your mate was everything to me just like being captain of the guard. What I wasn't ready for was the fact I was ready to drop everything for him.

We continued our walk when a familiar scent hit me. Looking up, I saw Luke, Theon noticed as well and tensed. A deep growl came from within him.

Quickly Luke threw his hands up, "Wait, Alpha Theon, I want to apologize. It was more of my wolf that took over that night. I just want what's best for Jade, and if that means her being with you and not me then I can accept that."

Theon looked him over unsure if he should believe him. I didn't even know if I could believe him. Not after what Damien said to us.

Theon spoke up, "and why should I believe you?" His deep voice held firm, "Why should I believe that you mean my mate and me no harm?"

Luke looked at us both. “Look I know you don’t trust me.” he sighed, “but I promise, I don’t want Jade.” The pain in his eyes ripped into me. “I honestly just want to see her happy now.” The pain was replaced with determination, “I want to help you guys escape.”

His words surprised me. Theon looked taken aback as well. Theon then broke the small silence. “You want to help us? Why?”

Luke rubbed the back of his head. “Look, my father is looking to start a war whether Jade is marked or not because of her lineage.”

This made Theon raise an eyebrow at me. I just gave him the look that said we’ll talk later.

Running his fingers through his hair, “Fine Luke, we will both give you a second chance to make things right, but if you messed up.” his voice became more menacing. “I will finish you off myself.”

Luke nodded in agreement, “I promise, I plan on taking my father’s title by force once you guys leave.”

We didn’t like the feeling that we had to take a chance and trust Luke on this, but I knew we could make sure he kept his word. I just had to pull a few things off my own.

After talking a while longer, we watched Luke leave and now it was my turn to get asked a bunch of questions. Theon looked at me, “Alright little wolf. Explain.”

I looked up innocently like I had no idea what he was talking about. Then sighed in defeat when I knew that wouldn’t work. “Not here. Everyone knows yes, but they don’t know all of it.” Grabbing Theon’s hand, I led him back to my family's home.

He didn’t protest or say a word as I walked past my house and into the woods. He just watched me as I walked.

Once we got to the opening, I shifted in. I turned and faced him. “What do you know of the Blackwood clan?”

He looked puzzled for bit but then answered, “Well ,that they are the second oldest clan to my own of high ranked Alphas.” He looked confused, “But no one has heard of the...” His eyes widen, “How did not put two and two together, your last name is Blackwood?”

I laughed softly at his shock to himself before speaking up. “Correct, I am a Blackwood and it comes from my father’s side. My mother is a beta ranked wolf.” I sat down in grass then laid down, “my father gave it all up so he could be with my mother. The rest of the Blackwoods are scattered throughout the world.”

Theon joined me on the ground, “So Alpha Mark knows about this and wants to have you produce a high ranking Alpha for this pack?”

I looked to the clouds. I watched as the puffs of what could be mistaken for cotton candy floated by. I curled up into Theon as he placed his arms around me, resting his head against mine. The breeze softly blew through the trees. I felt safe and at ease. It was like a dream come true, but that dream would end with one big choice ahead.

We stayed in silence for awhile has the sun began to set. Soon it would be time to escape this pack and leave what I knew behind. It was going to be hard, but I knew it had to be done. It was either running away with my second chance mate or letting myself fall victim to what Alpha Mark had in store for me. I wasn’t about to be a victim. I promised Verena happiness and that is what I was going to give her. My mind was made up and the plan was set.
