Chapter 55: An industrial city studded with steam-powered marvels

“The train maintenance is taking too long. We need to stay here for a week.”

The monster these past days is very active. Knights and adventurers are doing their best to exterminate the monster near the city area. Because of that the railways going to other city was also damaged.

It's not something we have control over so overthinking about it was useless.

For now, we should look for something to do. It is nearly afternoon, and all of us are currently seating at a table on Kaoru’s sweets shop. They are quite busy. Koyume and Belle are serving the customers and Kaoru is busy baking.

Turning my glance on Taki. I noticed the pile of papers beside her.

“What's with those papers Taki?”

“This? This is from master Karyll. I told her that we can’t go yet to Central city because of the train maintenance. I asked her to give us some recommendation to get some quest.”

“What happened?”

“It's great news we are given some quest that we can accept. This quest is from the central city. If the knights questioned us all we need to do is show them this letter of recommendation from master Karyll.”

Master Karyll sure have lots of connection. Being a state knight is useful, but it doesn’t really interest me.

I then get one of the quest posters and read it. I was stunned by its content.

“Recruiting for a test subject for magic. Adventures are supposed to have high resistance and can endure lots of pain… What is this quest?!”

I get another and read it again.

“Quest in farming cabbage. The adventurers require were suppose to stay here for six months… Rising corp is not an adventure why need adventurers. What's with this quest most of them seems useless. Is the central city really have this?”

“There are lots of people in Central city. Quest doesn’t always consist of defeating monsters. Sometimes it's voluntary work and other stuff.”

Taki replied and then continue searching for a decent quest to have.

I get another and read it.

“A quest in scratching some noble man's back when it's itchy… Some people just have lots of money. They're spending it on useless stuff.”

A heavy gust blows through the sweet shop. Resulting in the poster flying away. And then Yumi raised her hand and grab one poster. Shen then takes a look at it.

“Hurry up let's gather the quest poster!”

Taki and I hurried and stand up. After gathering the quest posters. We return to Yumi who looks interested in the quest poster on her hand.

“What's the matter Yumi?”

“Look this one looks pretty decent.”

Taki and I take a look at it.

A quest in taking out an unknown monster.

“Let see, My daugther encounters a monster. Although a lot of people are missing from our community, the knights, which govern this town, refuses to believe us. Can any of the brave adventurers settle this problem? It said…”

I turned my eyes toward Taki after reading the description of the quest poster.

“This one looks really decent. Laura looks very happy on it too.”

“Well, I’m just excited that I’m going to have an adventure to another city. I feel like I’m already traveling the world.”

“This quest is about monster hunting inside a city. Well, this looks better than anything we read earlier… I’m also into this.”

“Then let's go for an adventure!”

“Yeah!”

We accepted the quest and then goes immediately to the adventuring guild. Showing the recommendation from Master Karyll. We’re approved to be a special adventurer. We’re given an Adventurer Identification card afterward.

Looking at it I saw no rank on it, maybe it's because we are just a special case. Still, this card will be useful because this card will be our passport in reach other cities.

From the guild, we are introduced to a person that will bring us to the city where the quest will take place.

“I never thought that my passengers will be a group of kids. If you got a special pass then you must be a great adventurer… Wait, the three of you are the children that save the kids in the nearby mountain last time right?”

“Yes.”

We nodded.

“Then, it’s a pleasure to serve you. You save my little sister. My name is Ryuu and I’m an elf. Nice to meet you.”

I understand now, she is an elf. That's why she has pointy ears. No wonder her face looks pretty too. In the book I read before, it said that elves are all pretty. Now I’m believing that.

We then walked to the exit and there a giant owl was waiting for us.

Yumi and I were amazed at what are we seeing. We run toward the Divine Owl and hugs it. I pressed my body on its soft cotton-like feathers. Yumi is rubbing her face on it.

Taki whose very anxious yelled at us.

“Don’t do that… The divine Owl might attack you!”

“Don’t worry about that, My divine owl is not that kind of owl. She’s didn’t seems like it but she like being popular with kids. She’s quite a so-called tsundere owl.”

The owl flies toward Ryuu and attacks her with its beak.

I never expect an owl to have such a personality.

Seeing it The owl and Ryuu look very close to each other.

“Why do we need to ride this owl?”

“The city where the quest will take place wi located on an island in the western part of Rumia Kingdom. Rising carriage or traveling will take a long time. Riding a divine owl will be the better choice.”

After saying that Taki looks at the soft-looking feathers and gulped.

“You can do it.”

Taki runs and hugs the owl. By hugging the divine owl, her face was turned into pure bliss.

“I’m so happy.”

We then ride the back of the giant owl. From above we’re seeing all surrounding below us. Just like what we saw on the wall. The scenery at this altitude is interesting.

So this is how birds see the word while they're flying. I feel envious of them.

“What kind of place is the city we're going to? Taki.”

“According to the poster, it's the city called Motostroke city. An industrial city studded with steam-powered marvels. There are lots of factories there and it said that the place is really noisy. It's a remnant of the industrial age.”

“Industrial age.. What is industrial age then?”

“Don’t ask me. I’m not a walking encyclopedia.”

“It’s the age 800 years ago. Its the time were Motostroke city was founded. The history of the industrial age is blurry but one thing is for sure. It helps a lot in shaping the world we’re living in right now.”

Ryuu answered my question.

Industrial age. I started to know a lot and lots of things while I’m traveling. After hearing that I feel like I wanted to go there as fast as I can.

I feel thrilled.

Yumi raised her hand and pointed it out from our position.

“Look we’re about to get there. The city of Motostroke.”

Looking at it, I saw a big clock tower in the middle of the island. Giant gears and steams from factories.

This is Motostoke city.
