Chapter 43: Battle Frontier (Part 13)

After one hour of being unconscious. Taki is woken up and seated down on the bed.

“Where I am? What is this place?”

“We’re inside the Inn we rented out. It’s not that big but this Inn s the only Inn with three beds in one room. With that, we can save a lot of money.”

Taki took her glace out of the window and notice how pitch dark the sky already was. She then put her hand on her head.

That earsplitting sound her ability created maybe still making her head dizzy. Meanwhile, the pink-haired girl beside me is dizzy for another reason.

“Laura, Taki let's go and eat dinner already… I’m already done eating hot buns.”

The hot buns Lei Mei gives to us are really good but eating the same thing over and over again this morning until night is making me what to stay away from hot buns for a while.

Good thing that the Inn has a restaurant located below it. With that, the three of us immediately goes down and ate dinner.

We order a different variety of meals including vegetables and meat. We need to make our bodies stronger. I heard eating meat and vegetable will help a lot. That’s the reason I ordered those things instead of fried chicken.

I then get a green vegetable using my fork and ate it. My face totally was in anxiety and I don’t really like eating veggies.

It’s so bitter…

Besides me, Taki is also making the same face. It seems like someone is forcing us to eat something we don’t like. Yumi meanwhile, didn’t dislike veggies and eat normally.

“This carrot is good… Is this organic? Hmmm… Hmmm…”

Yumi continues and eat. Taki and I truly respected her after seeing that. While we are eating we leap into a conversation.

“That was awesome Taki, how can you produce that powerful lightning with sound manipulation? I don’t get it.”

I asked.

Taki then replied and explained things to me.

“As the vibrations gradually die out, the sound echoes and reverberate, generating the rumbling we call thunder. We can hear the thundering booms 10 miles or more distant from the lightning that caused it. Thunderstorms produce lightning, which creates the sound we call thunder.”

I don’t get it but awesome. Taki is really the most intelligent of the three of us. Yumi is also good at thinking. Wait, if that’s the case then…

I’m the dumb one at this party?!

That can’t be true, I was intelligent… I wanted to believe I was intelligent.

“Laura, what’s with that long face? Are you feeling well?”

“Did you catch fever again?”

With that realization. I should try reading books and learning more things from now on. I just love the impossible to read books that have all text and no drawings.

I thought and clenched my fist.

“Laura your ability also used lightning to speed up your body. Right?”

“That’s true, I’m calling it lightning swift.”

When using Lightning swift, I set a predetermined trajectory and travels along with it at a high velocity. I can use it to mow down multiple enemies in one activation or to strike the target from several unprotected spots in quick succession.

Too bad I can’t move my body while or stop in the set predetermined trajectory I set. That’s the restriction I made with my ability. Making my blade power into ten folds.

Taki and Yumi’s ability also has its restrictions. But as an adventurer telling it casually is not a very good idea.

“Tomorrow's fight we’re going to battle the players on floors 21 to 30. Magic-user and ability user will appear normally.”

“I’m quite excited… I wanted to test my ability on them. I wanted to know how powerful my full counter was.”

“Same with me I wanted to use my lightning swift.”

Taki put her hand on her head and said.

“You see you can just treat your opponents like punching bags for training. Players on that floor are unlike the players we battle before. We must take them seriously.”

Yumi and I nodded in reply.

The next day we go early in the morning to the battle tower to challenge the next upper floors.

“Lightning swift!”

With my lightning speed movement and attack, my opponent was unable to catch me. Just in few moments, my opponent fell and I gather 10 points.

“Winner Player Laura!”

In the other battle stadium. Taki and Yumi are doing the same. Using their ability they destroy their respective opponents.

Our first battle for the day is very easy and ended fast. It’s not like we're underestimating our enemies but maybe there is already a huge gap between us and them.

Our winning streak is giving us confidence in how strong we truly are.

“Hey, Laura, Taki, What are we going to do when we became enemies to each other?”

Taki and I were stunned after realizing such a thing. Looking at each other we go into deep thought.

That’s true, the three of us can face each other in a battle. Honestly, it’s really lucky that we never face each other in a single fight here.

“Then we can just give a win to each other using rock paper scissors. A player needs to use three times before the player goes down in floor 1 to climb again.”

“Then the consecutive wins will be broken…”

Well, I don't like the idea of exchanging fists with them. Either Taki or Yumi.

“Then we just have to do our best then… There are no hard feelings. The loser is the loser, the winner is the winner… If that happened then we just need to face each other heads on.”

Taki said.

We look no each other and nodded in agreement.

Looking at the big monitor Taki’s name and Yumi’s name appeared and their opponent has decided already. They both leave me in the waiting area.

Watching in their battle. Yumi and Taki are facing a  rather difficult opponent this time. An adventurer skilled in magic.

Even though we have the ability. That doesn’t make us automatically stronger than a magic-user. Magic is also a fundamental of ability and magic is the core of miracle-like things happening in this world. Therefore, magic is something that should not be underestimated. Especially that there is multiple powerful magic existing in this world.

Magic that I might not able to battle is light magic. The pretty white-haired woman appeared in the mountainside before. Using such rare magic.

Light magic is very fast and even my lightning-swift will not able to go as fast as the speed of light.

Thinking about things makes me feel thirsty. I know there is a near vending machine here.

I stood up from my seat and exit the waiting area. I walked into the hallway and then accidentally bump into someone.

We both fall with our butts on the floor. Turning my head on the person. I saw a girl that seemed to be the same age as me.

I stood up and then helped her by offering my hand. The girl seemed to be very kind and take my hand.

“Are you hurt?”

“Nope… It’s my fault, I’m in rush running in the hallway. Thank you for helping me stand up and sorry for the accident.”

She bows her head with an apologetic face and then runs away.

“What a strange girl? But she is nice…”

 Looking at the floor where she fell. I saw a number ID of a player. I get it a take a look.

“Player Fina? That girl is a player? Be might be in the waiting room later I must give it back to her. A player can’t redeem her reward without her ID after all. I must go and buy some drink first.”

I reached the vending machine and then put a coin on it. I pick a  refreshing strawberry milk drink. Quenching my thirst I go back to the waiting area.

As I expected, the girl is also there waiting. Looking at her she looks very busy. She is using the computer talking to someone on a video call.

“Sorry Fina you’re in such a tight spot because of me… I’m truly sorry Fina…”

“Don’t worry mother I will work hard and earn money a lot of money to buy you medicines. My little sister is also going to school next year. I should work hard here.”

“Battling in the battle tower is dangerous. You can just go back to this town and work on the farm. It's much safer that way. I’m constantly worried about you. You little sister felt the same.”

“Sorry mother but I can’t do that… The wage gives to underage like me is very little. I can’t fund your medicine and Mina’s education like that.”

“But battling was…”

Her mother looks very sick and she has a little sister to support. Wow, for someone in my age she truly takes a huge responsibility on her family.

I started to respect her very much.

“Don’t worry I will manage…”

“Who is that behind you? A friend?”

“Behind me?”

Fina turned her head around and saw me standing.

“Nope… I’m not… I just wanted to give you your player ID. You drop it earlier.”

Her eyes sparkle and then hugs me.

“Thank you very much! Without this, I will not gonna be able to redeem my rewards. Thank you for giving it back to me.”

“Don’t sweat it.”

FIna turns her head back to her mother who smiled and then said her farewell. The computer was then turned off.

She then bows her head once again.

“Thank you very much… Maybe we can become friends? My name is Fina. I’m from Spring Wall district.”

Spring wall? That’s sounds new to me. Hearing the new location makes me excited. Someday I will go and travel around the world. I might visit that district someday.

“My name is Laura nice to meet you.”

We then shake each other hands. Sealing our friendship.

After that, new names on the monitor were displayed. The name of the next players going to battle was displayed.

I was surprised when I see it.

“Laura versus Fina…”

We then look at each other with troubled faces.
