“This is ridiculous, Brett. You didn’t have to rescue me. I told you that I wasn’t in any immediate danger.” Roxy shifted uncomfortably under the brown-eyed scrutiny of the youngest of her three foster brothers. “And jumping on my rental? You could have killed us! Not to mention, pretty sure the car rental company is going to be pissed that their Xterra is now totaled.”
Brett rubbed the back of his neck nervously, his long, brown hair tangling between his fingers. “You have no idea what kind of danger you were in, Roxy. I don’t know why I let it go on for so long, but Levi and I couldn’t stand by and watch what was happening for a minute longer.”
Despite the situation, she couldn’t help but get a little excited. “Is Levi here? Is Henry? What about Uncle Merrick?”
