Aria's pov
“You all serve a monster” I spat out, the images of the bloody captive still remained in my head as I recalled while I was at the Blackstone pack. I realized I wasn't any different from them, just killed in a more agonizing way.
“You should be lucky he lets you live” one of the guard replied
“Lucky? I'll be damned to ever feel lucky to be here” I hissed out
“Tsk, women prisoners” he scoffed
The chains bit into my wrist with every movement I made but that didn't stop me from struggling even though I had been in shackles before but not this type, the silver burned like fire and I cried, pulled and thrashed but no one was going to come for me in the stone cell,
Hours passed, maybe days. I couldn't tell which was which but all I knew was that I had to get out of here, I had to escape the clutches of the ruthless Alpha Vladric.
But the thoughts of Elias's pack didn't bring comfort either, the memory of his rejection cut deeper than the chains around my wrist, the disappointment in his eyes when he glared at me, I could tell that no matter how hard I explained myself, I had lost his trust even though I still loved him.
I knew going back would mean facing the mockery and shame and a life where I was nothing but a lowly wolf even before I was chosen as Luna, though miserable, was much better than living in chains.
And that too, chains of the same Alpha who took the lives of my parents.
My chest ached and for the first time in years, I didn't bottle it up, I let myself sob.
I truly was reborn to suffer more.
I tugged at the chains but they were too heavy, I tried moving my wrist again but it still burned. I swallowed the tension as I gave up, leaning against the wall as I looked through the only source of light.
The moonlight seeped through the night narrow window of the cell. It was pale but sharp and something deep within me stirred as the rays fell on my skin, it made my blood boil and my veins thrum.
I tugged again. This time, the iron didn't hold quite as strong as it did.
I froze.
Though it still burned my skin, I felt the urge to pull. My heart hammered against my chest as I pulled harder again, my teeth gritted together as my skin burned from the silver but on the last pull the chains flared.
Bursting out from my wrist with a sharp snap like I had ignited it with something stronger.
For a dizzy moment I stared at the broken silver chains on the ground, then my body moved before my mind caught up.
I rose up and ran for the cell door which hadn't been locked properly, as if the guards hadn't thought I would ever snap the chains in half, I slipped through the crack then ran past the sleeping guards like I was being chased.
Not like I wouldn't take them long enough to actually chase me.
Don't stop. Don't stop. Don't stop.
The voice in my head sang, I raced through the corridors lit by dying torches, my bare feet aching on the cold ground. At a right turn, I locked eyes with one of the guards who spotted me and shouted but I turned left immediately and headed for the door leading to the long stairs.
I ducked under the grasp of one of the guards standing just at the foot of the stairs then slammed the heel of my hand into his stomach, power thrummed again, hotter this time and the guard flew to the other end of the room.
I didn't wait to understand what I had done, I had to keep on running.
Finally I could see a big door ahead which seemed like the only way out. As I got to it, I pushed through with all my strength and it burst open. I had no time to wonder how I did that but I was sure the door was well structured with wood and iron.
Immediately I passed through, cold air swept across my face as I stumbled into the forest that was beyond the fortress. I didn't care where I was off too but I had to keep on running before they caught on.
I didn't remember this part of the forest and sure enough it was because I was far off from home but I knew I was going away, away from the man who had destroyed my life and away from whatever magnetic pull that tugged at me here.
I had gone far enough when something inside my gut twisted painfully, something similar to how I felt in Vladric's presence, like he was watching me.
I clenched my jaw, forcing myself deeper into the shadows. I didn't care where I went, I just wanted to be far away from here.
Running past small hills, I stumbled and crashed to the ground, rolling along the muddy slope till I had my back against the foot of a tree.
Groaning, tears spilled from the corner of my eyes but I stood up with pains all over my body regardless, I tried to steady myself on both feet but paused as I waited to hear thundering steps coming towards me and almost immediately an arrow flew past me, hitting the tree I stood in front of.
Vladric's men had come for me.
I ran again till I couldn't feel my legs.
“Get her!” I heard in the shadows, my heart beating faster than the motion my legs were on. I turned back to see the numbers of guards running but I lost focus, I tripped and fell.
My back against the dirt and my fingers trembling, I groaned softly and blinked as my vision blurred.
I tried to get up but a sharp pain ripped through my body but even before I decided to give up I could already feel a figure towering over me.
Elias.
As my vision blurred once again as I passed out.
