CHAPTER 34: The Dementor

1102 Words
“ROMINA! WAKE UP!” Romina let go of a gasp when she heard an echoing voice. She found herself in an isolated west wing of their building. Or more like, this is the old, abandoned building of their school. For as long as she could remember, this building was once used by her mother’s batch when they were still in high school. It’s already two decades old and she heard that this building will be demolished sooner or later. But then, she couldn’t help but wonder… Why am I here? I couldn’t remember that I came here. She remembered that she’s walking with Luciel and Simeon and the two were actually at the urge of quarreling (well, Luciel is actually the one who’s rude towards Simeon) when someone bumped at her. More like a kid bumped onto her. She was about to call Luciel when she heard fast and heavy footsteps meters ahead of her. Romina could actually hear the frantic pants, huffs and concealed whimpers. What was that? She slowly walked into the lobby. The place is silent, she observed. But as much as she loves silence, this silence is too eerie for her liking. The silence is giving her goosebumps and for an unknown reason, she felt terrified. “Pagbilang ko ng sampu, nakatago ka na…” Romina flinched when she heard a screechy and eerie voice. It was just too loud that the voice pierced onto her ear. When she slowly recovered, she saw something—or more like someone running on the east wing of the building. It looked like it was being chased or something. Even if the situation is very, very terrifying for her, she decided to follow that person. “Isa…” This is just ridiculous. She didn’t know if the isolated abandoned building, or that someone running away from something or the eerie voice counting is the one that is giving her chills down her spine. “Dalawa…” “Tatlo…” “Apat…” “Lima…” She heard something faint that opened. By the sound of it, she could really tell that it’s a locker. Her breathe felt heavier the moment she walked towards the old locker place of the said building. Even if she’s scared because of the eerie voice counting, she still gathered her courage and bravery to walk towards the said lockers. “Anim…” “Pito…” “Walo…” Her breath became heavier and heavier when she entered the lock place. “Siyam…” She heard his footsteps slowly fading which actually made her felt a little relief. “SAMPU!” She heard a terrifying scream. It was actually scary, terrifying. But instead of running away to save herself. She ran towards the locker room. As soon as she arrived, she saw something—or someone holding a girl who’s trying to escape from his hold, crying messily. She didn’t know if these two saw her that she just watched at them helplessly. Or so she thought. Her eyes widen and her breath became faster and heavier because the next thing she knew, the terrifying face of the man turned towards her. “Nakita din kita,” the man said with an eerie voice and a terrifying face. (I found you.) Romina’s breathing went frantic as soon as the monster looked at her. She moved to step back just to escape but she was too scared to run away or even look away. The monster is just terrifying. The monster was already on its way to attack her but she was just there, stepping backward and terrified. “ROMINA, GET YOUR s**t TOGETHER AND WAKE UP!!!” That voice. A gasp came out of Romina’s mouth as soon as she woke up. There, she saw Luciel’s face and Simeon’s face looking worriedly at her. She felt Luciel holding her while Simeon’s hands were on her, emitting chains of lights. So that’s what I saw earlier. She grunted as Luciel slowly sit her up on the bed. She was too weak so the latter just let her lean on him. “Whe-Where am I?” she asked and looked around. “We took you home,” Simeon responded and he finally let go of Romina. “Romina, what did you see in your dream?” Dream? “Did I… did I really faint?” she couldn’t help but ask. “I could only remember that there’s this one kid who bumped onto me and the next thing I knew, I’m already inside the school’s abandoned building.” Luciel and Simeon looked at each other and they went silent for a couple of seconds. The angel looked at her again. “You’re in the school’s abandoned building? What did you do there?” “Simeon, Romina looked so tired. Can you just ask her later?” Luciel told him, obviously annoyed. “I…” Romina muttered. “I don’t know why I’m inside that abandoned building but I saw this kid running away to something. I don’t know what’s gotten me that I followed the kid. It was actually creepy when I heard that someone or something was counting as if we were playing hide and seek there. Then, suddenly, I heard a scream. I know for sure it was the kid that I’m following’s scream. I immediately went to the locker room and there, I saw this certain man in a black robe grabbing the kid. The girl was trying to escape from his hold and she was crying messily, begging that man to let go of her. I couldn’t do anything so I just watched them helplessly then suddenly, this man turned towards me and his face was really terrifying. I felt like my soul was about to get devoured.” “Is the kid that you saw in that dream…” Simeon trailed on. Then, he pointed to the kid lying on Romina’s room’s couch and the kid was sleeping soundly. “Is that kid, am I right?” Save me, please save me! Save me from him! “Yes! That kid!” she responded. “What… what is she doing here?” “That apparition that you saw… are among the foulest apparitions ever existed in the human world. They feed on souls, the souls of the dead who couldn’t pass through the afterlife which is this kid’s situation." Romina looked at Luciel then she looked at the kid again. “But the situation is actually not that good.” “Wh-Why?” “Because the dementor… is after the two of you.”
