Caleb sped down the hall toward the elevator, he was currently on the third floor and needed to get down to the second where she was last seen. She wasn’t going to escape just like that. “Why are you all just standing there? Get in an elevator with me!” he ordered Noah, Manny and four other guards.
“She’s smart enough not to use the elevators,” Caleb said to Noah who squeezed into the cramped elevator. “She knows we would be waiting for her at the other end if she did. I don’t know how she’s moving from floor to floor but I’m guessing open windows.”
“I hope she doesn’t hurt herself,” Noah said looking even more worried than before. The elevator door dinged open and they all stepped out. Caleb immediately paused. That scent. His shoulders twitched at the waft of pineapple and honey that faintly filled the space just in front of them. that was Daphne’s scent.
“She was here just now,” Caleb said ‘I can never forget that scent.’
“She must have been looking at which floor we would stop and ran off once the doors started to open,” one of the guards said.
“Find her,” Caleb said in a commanding tone “She must not leave with my child.”. “Yes sir!” the guards said as they dispersed, Noah followed Caleb through the left pathway where they suspected she went.

To the outside world, the Howard Apartment building looked like a regular apartment building in Raleigh city on the outside; in fact, most all of the buildings in this area did. But outsiders almost never get accepted as tenants here, and buying land was impossible on the west side of Raleigh. All the owners seemed to never want to sell, not even if the price of the land seemed to drop.
The Blood Moon pack had made a home in Raleigh city decades ago and had bought up all the land to mark as theirs. Their territory stretched over half the city; and now they were the strongest pack in the entire North Carolina, headed by the strongest Alpha around, nicknamed the Alpha king for his cold demeanor and dominating attitude over other Alphas.
The Howard apartment building was the Blood Moon pack headquarters, and it was in complete disarray today as they searched for their Alpha’s pregnant mate, Daphne.
Noah searched everywhere on the south side of the ground floor for any sign of Daphne. He had just finished checking the third and last storage when he heard a noise. It wasn’t loud, but his sensitive ears caught it easily.
He sneaked up to the laundry room. "The sound definitely came from her," he thought. He paused as he got to the laundry room's open door. "Daphne is definitely in there; her scent is here."
He listened well and could hear some shuffling around. His heart accelerated a bit, preparing for a fight. Daphne was an Alpha female wolf after all; it wouldn’t be easy to hold her down. He contemplated if he should go and get help instead, but she might have been gone by now.
Noah’s eyes widened a bit as he remembered the building has an exit in the laundry room.
He leaned closer into the room, his tall and lean stature a strong contrast against the wide short door. The top of the door almost touched his head. "I need to go in right now, or she’s going to escape."
Noah peered into the room and finally spotted Daphne; his heart stopped.
She looked helpless. Her red swollen eyes were poorly hidden under the baseball hat she had on; her entire demeanor looked exhausted and broken. Noah’s chest ached just looking at her as she threw on one of the laundry worker jackets that was left behind.
Daphne looked around to make sure no one had spotted her. Noah quickly plunged his head backward so she wouldn’t see him. "What am I doing hiding? I need to stop her. She needs to come back to Caleb," where she was abandoned and locked away. A lump formed in his throat.
“Noah.”
Noah’s face shot up towards the hallway at the sound of his name. Caleb came marching down the hall. “You didn’t find her?” he asked. Noah impulsively shook his head; the lump in his throat seemed to only grow.
“Well we—” Caleb paused as he got closer, “Noah, That’s her scent,” Caleb said while glaring at Noah. Noah swallowed hard. “I guess she passed here a few minutes ago.”
“Have you checked this room?” Caleb said as he barged past Noah and into the laundry room.
Noah panicked, following after him. “Sir! I—” He entered the room to see Daphne was no longer where she was standing before; she was nowhere to be seen. Noah felt both relief and anxiousness and confusion about why he let her go. She probably already used the exit.
Caleb grumbled something and left the room; Noah followed after.

Daphne held on to the tip of her baseball cap, She knew it was unlikely any of the pack members on the streets would be able to recognise her, she had spent all her time here within the headquarters building, but it would still be unwanted attention to walk around with swollen red eyes like hers.
She walked as fast as she could without raising suspicions, it would only be a matter of time before everyone out here too was also alerted of her escape. She needed to get to the east side of Raleigh city, where humans lived, from there she would run even further away.

“Find her!” Caleb ordered as he threw the tablet that showed security camera footage of Daphne escaping through the laundry room. “How can all of you be unable to catch one pregnant werewolf!”
“I am sorry Alpha” carlos- the gamma werewolf of he pack, in charge of all the guards- said as he picked up the screen-cracked tablet. “We will alert the guards at the gates, she will not be able to leave this territory.”
“She mustn’t.” Caleb said sternly. The whole room fell silent for a second, Carlos swallowed hard, he wasn't even sure Caleb would care if she disappeared until now.
