Evangeline's POV
A sigh of relief escaped my lips as I came to the double doors of the library, this place always kept me at ease. I took a deep breath before shoving open doors only to stop in my steps. It was huge! The library was the size of a gym, and the book stands stood the size of the ceiling. It was a dream that I didn’t believe could come true.
I stepped in, just focusing on the books as I ran my hand softly against the books and checking out the authors. As much as I would love to sit here and read some of these authors I never heard of, I have to read more about the supernatural.
I slowed my pace, reading the titles instead of the author to see if any would give away any information to what the book had inside. Anything that mentions beasts or vampires I pulled out and remembered where I would have to replace them.
I food a table separating out the several books I managed to balance in my arms before sitting down to read.
The books talked about this war that’s going on and it was what Kevin told me, the humans started it. I found it interesting on how it’s been going on for far too long. Part of me wondered who would make the first move, beasts or vampires? Or would it be some other kind?
Maybe humans will start the war. The fact about war, it changes people. It turns brother against brother, and family against family. It wasn’t something I looked forward too.
Me, I was always in the middle. Sometimes I wondered if that was truly where I was supposed to be. I was in it so much it seemed like a bloody home.
The sound of doors opening pulled me out of my thoughts and forced me to look towards the sound.
“Finally Nate, what took so long?”
“I got distracted and was talking with a few beasts here,” Nate spoke walking towards the table and not paying any attention to the books around him.
“Evangeline, what are we doing in here?”
“Reading, what else would we do?”
“I don’t know, leave?”
I always felt like I was alone. I never met anyone with the love of books like I did. When I stepped into a library, it was if the books talked to me. If I was paid to work in a library, I would have the greatest life in history.
All this reading helped me come up with a new theory. It wouldn’t be the beasts who would start this war. The vampires either.
As much as I figured it would be the humans since they start everything, it wouldn’t be them. Aliens have yet to show themselves and will mermaids seem to avoid the land cutting them out of the possibility.
I didn’t know for a fact if sirens were real, but I assumed with mermaids they would be. The bloody witches are too busy eating little kids to even care, as long as it didn’t harm them.
From what I have heard, I would assume the vampire kid would be the start or end of the war. I mean, why else would he or she be kidnapped or taken from home?
They had a power that was too strong, to kill power you take it away. That kid was the power to everyone, one that could balk or continue a war.
In this case, they were kidnapped early on so they wouldn’t have any memories and was probably thrown in with the humans. Knowing the situation, that kid was probably an outcast giving that they weren’t with their correct kind.
Honestly, I love this situation and all but I kinda feel bad for that kid. They are lost and now probably won’t find their kid ever again.
From what Kevin has told me, they probably have powers. Meaning that if the government finds her, we are screwed.
I already know that governments all over the world are working together. They want to keep everyone in the dark, it’s sad really. If it didn’t already happen, the word about them would get around eventually. Oh god, who knows what will happen. I pray so hard for them.
“Evangeline.” A voice called out cutting my theories short. “What are you doing in here?”
I turned towards the source of the voice to find out it was Kevin. How did it go again? Think of a name and they shall proclaim.
“How can you not be in here?” I questioned finally becoming focused on the conversation.
“Libraries are kind of boring. So many books and nothing to do.” I glared at him before storming off to yet another book stand.
“This relationship isn’t going to work,” I started earning a laugh from the devil himself.
“Evangeline, you don’t do relationships.” Nate spoke.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” I questioned, glaring at Nate, giving him one chance to correct himself. Nate caught this before quickly placing the book back on the table before giving me a toothy smile.
“I mean you guys would be the perfect couple! Your ship name could be Kevangeline or Evangelivin.”
“Good save, Nate. Good save.”
“Oh, now it’s a relationship?” Kevin questioned.
“Well, whatever you wanna call it will not work out. Books are the best thing that was ever created.”
He looked at me funny before picking up a book from the table, reading the title.
“The History Of The Supernatural?” He read out loud leaving me bewilderment.
“Holy mother of books, you can actually read! Congratulations you passed first grade!”
Kevin just simply rolled his eyes at me before sitting in my seat.
“If I murdered someone, how long would it take for their body to start to smell?” I randomly thought out loud. Kevin had the most concerned look covering his beautiful pale green eyes.
“Well, Evangeline. Probably no longer than a week.” Nate helped out.
“I don’t know like three days, why?”
“Well, I need to figure out how much time I have to get rid of your body without being caught.”
“Oh okay, but why?”
“You took my seat.” He laughed before simply moving over to the chair to the left of him. “You really do like this vampire person, don’t you?”
I took a seat next to him before pointing at the book, preparing to tell him what I had come up with.
“So here it says they were small when they were kidnapped. I have reason to think that it was an inside job. No one could get that close to a two-year-old without being trusted. The kidnapper was well-liked and wanted to keep that kid in the dark.”
“There’s more to it, isn’t there?” I smiled. The time hasn’t been long but he already knew me too while.
“You would have to kill that power, and that’s what they did. I say it was a family member who was jealous.”
“Evangeline, I think you are using your imagination too much. Maybe it wasn’t a family member, it could've been a friend or enemy.” Nate pointed out.
“Well, you said they were attacked during the war. I assume the vampires were short on people so the kid must have been left alone. Meaning there was a short window for someone to get in and out, unnoticed.”
“How come we always fought before? I can’t believe I’m actually saying this but I’m liking you.”
“It’s just so much more fun to fight.” I pointed out, “we’ll just stop trying to kill each other.”
“Evangeline, this whole time you been trying to kill me.” Nate pointed out.
“Hey, no telling my secrets.”
Kevin sighed before picking up a book and grabbing my arm dragging me out of the beautiful library. Nate simply, for once, followed us.
“Wait, where are we going?” I didn’t want to leave this place but I’m kinda being pulled out of it by force.
“The library needs to be destroyed, they are starting today.”
“Wait? No. Please keep it here. You can’t destroy a library!”
I forced him to stop just by my words. It was amazing how a word could change a life, for better or worse. It was scary but pretty cool at the same time.
“Why does a library matter so much?”
“It matters more than ever. Please just leave this here. There is a history in every book. Every author had a goal in mind as they wrote each and every page. So-”
“It’s okay. I’ll leave it, maybe I’ll add more to it. Any ideas?” He questioned pausing in the middle of the place. I looked around seeing no windows in sight.
“Maybe a bay window? It seems a little too dark in here. Some windows wouldn’t hurt.”
“Okay, but we are going outside. It’s bright out.” I didn’t mind as I passed rows and rows of books. I reached out to grab around to grab a random book before walking out.
It wasn’t long before I was out and free. I would be lying if I said it wasn’t peaceful. The breeze gently moved what was left of the trees and it started getting chilly out.
Everything was perfect, given the fact that it was the start of the fall. The sun made it bearable as I took a seat on the grass to read. Life seemed to be pretty cool.
“Alpha, Luna. Vampires.” Yeah, I thought too soon. I sighed before not caring, I chose to continue reading.
