ANOTHER DAY
"We've seen and read numerous articles about you. Trust me, many of our youth are eager for sessions with you, and I’m no exception; those write-ups always capture my attention and leave me amazed. I often wonder how the younger generation manages to handle such distractions."
'"Don't! I don’t create distractions; I am simply working to help our world become a better place by making discoveries and providing effective tips. Please, continue.'” — George Dawson
Layla looked skeptically at the man for a while before proceeding.
"My bad!"
"We would love to hear from you directly. How did you come about these things you do..I mean, what gave you this insight and how were you able to actualize your vision till this point? Your audience is eager to know this."___Layla
[The television kept on displaying in the background while in the room upstairs, a lady is getting prepared for work.]
"Lies! all lies! Such a crafty man.
I really do see a generation of distracted and confused people if that viper does not get exposed."___Laura muttered as she fixed her shirt into her pants.
"Hey moron, you better get your ass down here and get this place tidied up."
Laura's shoulders dropped as a deep sigh left her lips and she raised her eyes to the sky covered by the ceiling.
That's her paternal aunt shouting out from the floor below. She has to wake up extra early to sort out the mess she(her aunt) and her family made over the night, and before going to work, she has to fix the mess of her cousins, but what can she do?
At least they let her live with them... that's more than enough. Sharply, she grabbed her bag and set out of the room with a murmur...
"Another day of being late to work. I'm just so dead today."
................................…...............................
Getting downstairs, she saw her cousins being so engrossed in listening to the nonsense of that man. Her mind was about to start a journey to the wonderland when the harsh voice of her aunt cut through.
"I'm so sorry, I'll get it all done ASAP."__Laura
"Get your dirty ass to work. Mind you, ion want my babies tripping over...so mop the floor."___Damsel sparked.
Laura couldn't believe her ears...MOP?
Like how, with what time? How is she to face her boss?
She looked at the messy sitting room, her spoilt cousins, and her unbearable aunt, but the only thing that left her mouth was a deep sigh. Knowing there was nothing she could actually do outside work, she got to work...the earlier, the better.
******************************************
"rrrrrhhhh"
A deep sigh left Laura's lips as she slumped into her seat. She just got a red card from her boss, which means..she f**k up again; she gets f****d up herself.
"My life's all a mess I wish could change"
'However, I know better that it can never be changed ' __she completed in her mind.
"Hey system, got something going on?"
Hearing the voice, Laura didn't even bother to answer. She knows what that person is here for and she's not in for that today.
Well, it seems today is not for Laura to have a peaceful mind, but a day to bask in the sorrow of her existence with many things to remind her of how miserable her life is cause the next moment, that person was already standing before her.
Laura could feel hotly the mockery and pride in the presence, and she silently made prayers, not wanting any episode at all.
"I just asked you a question, Laura"__with a tone that shows she was awaiting Laura's reply
"I need my space, Dana."__Laura replied as a matter of fact.
Dana raised a brow with that look of 'Oh, really!' then she looked at her companion, and boom 💥..it broke out.
A competition of laughter came on set being so hysterically diminishing and trouble-screaming.
Laura's heart shook but she told herself repeatedly not to be affected by whatever they were doing. She adjusted the chair and then stood up to leave but this only pissed Dana. Her laughter seized, and the next second, Laura was back in her seat, looking hurt. She winced in pain due to the force of the push.
"Where do you think you're going b*t*h? I asked you a d*mn question!"__Dana growled looking so oppressive and bratty. Her minions soon joined in the escapade surrounding Laura and not giving her any chance to resist.
" She's talking to you mot...."
"STOP!"
"No more curse words! Just STOP!"__Laura, unable to take in any more insult screamed out. She covered her ears with her palms, her eyes closed as she begged them to stop.
The dark thoughts she'd been avoiding started flooding her mind, and tears threatened to fall, but she held herself and said no more.
Unbeknownst to her, Dana majorly and her minions were caught in the web of dumbfounding stares. They couldn't believe their ears or whatever they were seeing.
Laura has never yelled since her 3 months in the company. It's always been them yelling and she submitting.
Dana blinked over and over...she actually got scared and that's driving her nuts cause she doesn't even know what to say.
She slowly turned to her friends and found them looking so lost and tongue-tied. She turned her gaze on Laura again and emotions rose within her.
"Psycho!"__she exclaimed and left hurriedly knocking her minions back to life. They immediately trailed after her like chicks after mother hen.
Laura, already being consumed by the darkness of the world within didn't know what had happened. Tears slowly trailed down her cheeks, and her head fell on the lap.
She was trying to pull herself out, but the darkness would not let her go, and that was it...she gave up struggling.
"Would you get those hands on the keys or get yourself out of here? I don't need people with less vision handling my business from their perspective so you better get your ass outta that chair."
Laura broke out and immediately stood up trying to adjust herself and look professional.
That is her unit supervisor. A man who would not look twice before giving condescending remarks. Always radical and aloof.
"I apolo..." He would not even let her land, he slammed a heap of files on her desk and glared at her.
"No room for weaklings here. Get to work" and with that, he left grumpily as usual.
Laura stared at his retreating figure for a while. This crude man just saved her from sinking...he didn't know that though.
"Thank you, HR."
She muttered, then looked at the pile of files. Pain hit her heart again, but there was no time to sulk. She professionally got herself into the act.
'This is the life I have to live.'
She thought and sighed again.
******************************************
Stepping into the house, she didn't find anyone and a little sigh of relief escaped her lips.
'At least I'd breathe for a while'
Laura thought whilst taking off her shoes and going straight to her room.
Throwing her bag and phone on the bed, she slowly slipped down the door. Sadness crept up to her face as she slowly wallowed in her pain.
"I survived yet another day. I wonder how long this will go on... let's fight until then."
With a painful smile, she closed her pretty stressed eyes.
'This too shall pass'
