Chapter1[Flowers]
The sun's hotness was so cruel to Riley that she nearly screamed out curses in anger. While others were wearing skimpy outfits and enjoying their summer, she was under the sun running errands for her boss, a cold, arrogant Mrs. Paula. She might receive her salary that day, so she hoped she would be able to plan a sumptuous dinner for her husband, Henry. It was nearly closing hour, so the little bit of energy left in her was what dragged her back to work. It was a Friday, and they would be closing early. "Madam Paula, I'm back!" She announced. The woman lazily took the stuff from her and tipped her for her service. It wasn't much compared to the stress she had put Riley through all week, but it would still be enough to take her though the weekend if she didn't receive her salary yet. She decided to call her mother on her way home, just to ask about her health. Her day grew worse when she heard from a neighbor that her mother's health was getting worse. And her drugs were very expensive to get, but she was determined to take care of that stubborn woman. She carried her big black bag, collecting leftovers from her colleagues because someone had thrown a mini-party. She and her husband would be able to eat that until she prepared dinner. Henry was lazy, but Riley didn't blame him. He did his own part sometimes because his mother was rich, so he got an allowance from the woman. Now though, he said he was broke and had no money at all, so she had to manage the family until he, had more money. Just on her way home, she saw someone who looked exactly like her best friend, Lola. "What? Does Lola have a doppelgänger? Ha!" She laughed to herself at the resemblance between that lady and her best friend. But Lola was in Sweden for a business meeting. Her friend was more successful than her as Lola came from a wealthy family who helped her a lot. Her long skirts and thick blouse made them uncomfortable as she walked, but she had to trek home because the cash with her was not much. If she entered a taxi, that would be extra money again. She managed and continued walking until something else forced her to stop. In front of a restaurant, she sighted someone who looked so much like Henry. Riley jumped up with joy and was about to run to her husband when she saw a lady hug Henry so passionately that he threw what was in his hand down and lifted the lady up, gripping her ass tight. They were...kissing? Right there in public like that! "Wait, that can't be, Henry. Damn it, you're seeing things, Riley." She muttered to herself. Still, she couldn't move an inch. She was so scared that it could actually be Henry cheating on her. When they stopped with the kiss, he put her down and carried the load that had fallen to the floor. Then, holding her hands, he led her to a car. Green SUV car with one side of glass slightly broken. He had gotten into an accident that caused that, and complained bitterly about being broke to fix it. That car was Henry's. Riley frowned, suddenly feeling her shoulders ache from the bag. She swung around her arm. A taxi stopped in front of her and, as she was not in control of her own brain, stepped inside. "Follow that SUV, sir." She said to the man, her eyes not leaving the green car. The man did as she'd asked, and they went on for a couple of minutes until the green car stopped in front of her apartment. After both of them had headed in, Riley got down from the car and settled down the driver. With each step getting heavier by the second, she managed to get to until she was standing by the doorstep. The door swung open easily as she pushed it. He must not have locked it. She carefully dropped the bag and stepped inside like she was entering a horror house. No one was in the living room, but she heard voices upstairs. Aiming for small steps so she would not trip and die of hypertension, she made her way up the stairs and listened for where the noise was coming from. It was from their very own matrimonial bedroom. "Damn it, I've missed you so much," in a soft moan, said a voice. It was so familiar Riley could have bet her life it was Lola's voice. "Same here. You know it freaked me out whenever I was having s*x with your friend, honestly. She's not as hot as you are and looks ancient now--" "--hey! How can you talk about another woman with me being here?" Lola said. "Hey, come on. I'm sorry." Said Henry. Riley leaned closer and saw Henry pulling Lola back on top of him as she got up. The door was slightly ajar so she could see the two of them on the bed. Wait, it didn't make sense. She blinked again, waiting for the part where she would jump up from her nightmare because it was all too scary to be true! Henry, her own husband with her best friend? "...tired of her. You know by the way she complains,” Riley heard the lady curled around Henry saying, “I thought she would have died by now. She bleeds from her nose and the doctor says it is because of too much stress. Why won't she just die already?" Riley waited again to confirm. That was definitely Lola's voice! "Die? Heyyy come on. Isn't that too much? She's your friend, isn't she? Are you that bothered about her? But hey, you know you're right. There's this life insurance covering her. If anything were to be wrong with her, I could take the money without her mother ever finding out." Henry said, and they both laughed. "But I don't even need that money. Why won't you just divorce her, baby? I'm rich, and I can take care of you and your mother. What's with the pretense! We should just tell her already!" Riley suddenly wished they were speaking in another language and none of what they'd been saying was that harsh. She wished they were talking about just how much of a caring friend she had been to Lola, and how much of a submissive wife she had been to that son of a b***h Henry! How could they do this to her? Her chest hurt so tight and teared so fast she feared it would explode. She didn't know why, but tears fell helplessly down her eyes. Finding out that her husband was cheating on her might not have hurt that much, but realizing her own best friend had betrayed her like that? Was that why she was crying? Was it also because she felt like a joke right now that her three-year marriage with Henry had been nothing but a prank? Miley Cyrus' hit song, Flowers, suddenly began to play. Both Lola and Henry turned to the door immediately and Riley found them staring at her as her phone continued to ring in her pocket.
