Chapter One
It was the worst morning of my life so far, as I stood in my door frame looking into my now bare bedroom. As I look around my once full bedroom, I sighed as I looked at the light purple walls where my pictures hung. My window which was so bare now let the whole world look into what was once my personal space. I didn’t know how white the window panes were as my curtains were mostly closed as I always forgot to open them in the mornings. I looked at where my bed once stood and thought of all the good times I shared with my bed. It was my best friend as it had seen me through all of my happiness, and the arguments with my parents. The arguments weren’t that bad it was just the usual stuff. I looked towards my closet and remembered all the times I destroyed it every time I was looking for outfits for all sorts of occasions. I finally looked towards where my vanity once stood and smiled thinking of pretending the mirror being my audience when I used to dance around the room singing along to all my favourite music. OK, I still did that. “You almost ready to go now?” my mother mind links me. We are moving from our nice little house to a place I didn’t know about till my parents told me we were moving at the beginning of the week. I wouldn’t mind but I had a life here, my friends and everyone that I knew was here. The shock had me take a major tantrum at my parents as, after all, they were ruining my life in my eyes. My pack was another thing as everyone knew my family and loved us as much as we loved them. We were always at each other’s houses and celebrated everything together like birthdays, weddings and funerals. If one of the members of our pack dies then we all mourn the loss. We were a family even if we weren’t blood-related. I was hoping to meet my mate in this pack but I won’t find out till I turn 18 and now if he is in this pack then I will never meet him. Oh, I forgot to introduce myself, sorry about that, my name is Alexandra Bates and I am 17 years old. My birthday is in 2 weeks. I am 5ft 7 and I am a slim build but have curves in all the right areas. My hair is purple and is straight and sits on my waist. I have bright blue eyes which personally is my favourite feature. I have my mum’s nose but my dad’s chin. I am not that bad looking, but I don’t have supermodel looks. My family and I belong to the Silver Star pack. We used to be a large pack, but due to the ever attacks of rogues, we are just a few members left. The local Alpha of the pack closest to us has offered us to move to their pack as they are a lot bigger than us and so that’s why we are moving. What’s a mate? Have you never heard of mates before? Well, it’s like when you meet someone who completes you and you love more than anything. When you become 18 you shift into your wolf and if your mate is present then you get this intoxicating smell from your mate and you have to lock eyes on them to see if they are your mates. When you are lucky enough to find your mate then you will have to do the marking, which means they bite you between your neck and collarbone, well that’s where my parent’s marks are. Anyway once they mark you then you have a week to fully mate, which means that you have to do the nasty. By the way, I’m a virgin, as I’m saving myself for my mate. Don’t laugh it’s something I take very seriously. Right back to the whole mate thing, once you and your mate have fully mated then there is nothing that will keep you and them apart as their scent is mixed with yours and the whole pack know that you are theirs and they are yours. Make sense? It didn’t make sense to me and I was brought up with this stuff. Why are you asking about my wolf? Have you never heard of werewolves? Right OK, every person that is born a werewolf has a wolf inside of them that when they turn 16 then their wolf wakes up. It’s like having a conscience that you can talk to and your wolf talks to you, they can even warn you if there is danger. I remember when I first shifted as it was really painful and seemed to take forever. The whole pack was there with us who were shifting for the first time. My mum and dad were standing beside me as I felt my bones c***k and change into her. When I was finished shifting I was shorter than before as I was standing on all fours. I saw my mum and dad shift into their wolves. After a short run as a pack we got to a small river and that’s when I saw my wolf for the first time. She was a light grey wolf with white paws. “Hello, finally I get to talk to you,” my wolf said excitedly. “Hi, who are you?” I asked as I was now able to talk to my wolf. “I am Paige, and I will always be with you, Alexandra,” Paige said. “So we are like us versus the world?” I laughed. “Yup, plus so much more,” Paige replied. “With me now being with you, I can help you in decisions and warn you of danger, that sort of thing.” My father nudged me and told me we were going back to the pack-house and shifting back into our human forms. We all ran back and I was nervous as we were told to take our clothes off before we shifted into our wolves. I paced still in my wolf form as I didn’t know how to change back. “Paige, what do I do?” I nervously asked. “All you have to do is imagine how you look and then you will change back,” Paige urged me. “You might want to go behind a tree before you shift tho.” I went behind the nearest tree and concentrated on what I look like in my human form and I felt my bones c***k and rearrange themselves back to my human self. I was feeling very vulnerable as I was naked. “Mum, can you bring my clothes over to me please,” I mind linked with my mum who laughed and gathered my clothes from where they were and brought them to me. I grabbed the clothes as I stood there getting dressed again. “ Thanks, mum.” Just to clarify, boys have boy wolves and girls have girl wolves. Cool huh? Our wolf also helps towards the whole mate thing as well, They help us to find our mate! Once we get our wolf our senses improve by 100% as we see things through the wolves eyes whenever we shift. We become stronger, faster and we can hear almost everything. For wolves, we also have something called a mind link to the whole pack. Basically we can talk to each other without moving our mouths. We don’t even have to be in the same room. When we meet our mates and they mark us then we can feel everything they are feeling and can communicate with each other. Werewolves do have weaknesses tho, we are deathly allergic to silver and wolfs-bane is a big issue as well. We stay well clear of all of that jazz. I sigh as I shut the door to my room and go down the stairs to where my mum is waiting. She looked at me as she pulled me a hug. “Well, that’s everything loaded into the moving van,” mum said looking around at the now empty house. “We had such fun here, maybe we will be able to come back eventually.” I looked at my mum and admired her optimism, she was my rock. Sorry, I’m bad at introductions. My mum is named Linda and she is 34, has long blonde hair, it’s not as long as mine but it sits just below her shoulders. She has blue/grey eyes and a heart shaped face. She is slim like me and absolutely is devoted to my dad. My dad is another story. He is pure muscle and is our packs best warrior and he’s currently at the other pack sorting out the new house. My parents met the night my mother shifted for the first time. Since then they have never been separated since. You can tell they are devoted to each other as I’m walked in on them a few times getting frisky. I put an arm around my mum and gave her shoulders a squeeze. “I’m sure we will see here again,” I reassured my mum. We turn towards our car as the moving van starts the engine before rolling away from our new life and head towards our new home. We get to our car and get in. We take one last look at our home and we both sigh before mum turned the key and starts driving away to follow the removal van. It’s a long drive, an hour or two, I think as I’ve never been there before, I keep looking out of the window and watch as the place where I grew up went by bringing back memories of my life here. We pass a huge tree at the end of our territory which makes me a little bit nervous as this is as far as I’ve been. “Alex, have a nap before we get there,” my mum suggested as I rested my head on the window and feeling the coldness of it. “I will mum, but wake me up just before we get there, please,” I asked before I shut my eyes and let sleep overtake me.
