Chapter Twenty

Alex had a strong punch for someone who has never trained before. I rubbed the place on my arm that she hit and watched as she walked up the stairs to my room. I love having her in my room but it’s a pain as I haven’t slept in my bed since that night she fell out with her parents. I looked towards the couch and saw that Sebastian was still sleeping. I fought Rowan yet again for control as he wanted to wake Sebastian up and demand answers from him. I got scared when I couldn’t find Alex after we buried her mother. Every scenario that could’ve possibly happened, each scene getting more and darker as I searched for her. I looked everywhere except for the forest tree line. “Wonder where he was?” I wondered. “We need answers,” Rowan growled. “ He hurt our mate and we need to know if he is still loyal to the pack and to us.” “I know, Rowan but we will find out in the morning,” I reasoned with him, “I mean I don’t doubt his loyalty but we will get the answers and then decide what to do.” When I couldn’t find Alex after the funeral I was starting to panic as I couldn’t make out her scent but then again I completely to search for her scent. If I was logical then I would’ve found her and her father. I groaned as I rubbed my hands over my face suddenly feeling tired. I dragged my feet up to my room as I desperately needed a shower and sleep. I gently opened my bedroom door and waited for a minute or two to make sure Alex was sleeping. I sighed as I walked quietly into my room and headed for the bathroom. I closed the bathroom door as quietly as possible to make sure I didn’t wake Alex up. I turned on the shower as I stripped and jumped in when the water was hot enough. After I had washed and got out of the shower I wrapped the towel around my waist before I left the bathroom. I stopped when I saw that Alex was tossing and turning in her sleep. I snuck closer to the bed and watched her trying to keep bad thoughts from creeping into my head. I moved closer and sat on the edge of the bed just watching my mate. Alex moved in a way that showed her neck which made me slightly groan. I licked my lips and pushed down the urge to mark her right here and now. I quickly and quietly left my room and went to the room next to mine and lay down on the bed. I don’t remember when I agreed to this sleeping arrangement and will have to talk to Alex about it when I get a chance. I smiled at the thought of having a beautiful mate, who wasn’t afraid to wear her heart on her sleeve or show her emotions as freely as what she did. I fell asleep with the thoughts of Alex and our future that we will have. I woke up to shouting coming from downstairs. Jumping up and throwing on a pair of joggers that I had hanging over the chair. I didn’t bother about a shirt as they were all in my room. I raced downstairs to a scene that made me stop on the bottom step. I looked to see Alex shouting at her father who just sat there staring into space. By what I could gather from what was being said, Alex was frustrated that her father wasn’t answering any of her questions. He looked like he wasn’t listening to her which made my blood boil. I slowly made my way into the living room. When Alex saw me standing there she stopped shouting and slumped into one of the chairs. “Sorry for waking you Ethan,” she said quietly as her cheeks turned a deep red. “It’s OK, Alex,” I replied before sitting in the chair on the other side of her father. “Now why were you shouting?” “I was trying to get my father to talk to me and I lost my temper,” she mumbled waving her hand towards her father. I looked at Sebastian and he looked worse than what he did last night. I sat back in the chair as I looked from Sebastian to Alex and then back again. I pressed my hands together and brought them up to my mouth as I thought of the best way to approach the current situation. I came up with some sort of a plan but I don’t know how it would play out. “Alex, can I speak to your dad alone for a few minutes?” I looked at Alex who was looking at me shocked that I would even ask her to leave the two of us alone. “Why? I’m sorry Alpha but he’s my father and he needs to talk to me,” Alex replied with anger flashing across her face. “Please, Alex, I’ll let you know when we are finished,” I said as she stood from her chair. She looked at me and then to her father before storming out of the room. I sat forward in my chair and rested my elbows on my knees as I looked at Sebastian. The man looked like he had lost everything and his eyes held no emotion what so ever. “Sebastian, I’m sorry about your wife,” I started saying trying to get his attention. I didn’t want to use my Alpha voice but maybe that will be the only way he will answer the questions that I have. I straightened my back as I stood,” Sebastian, Where were you?” I asked using my Alpha tone. “Answer me!” I saw Sebastian straighten his shoulders as he finally looked at me. “Alpha, I thank you for your concern. I couldn’t cope with her death and Alex reminds me of Linda so much I couldn’t be around her. I am ashamed of being not strong enough to save Linda’s life and not strong enough to be there for my daughter. I felt guilty that I ran away, trying to come to terms with my mate’s death. I am lost without her as she was my everything. I felt like my soul died with her and I ran away from my responsibilities which included being a father to Alex.” I stood there as he tried explaining where he has been and why he did what he did. “Sebastian I won’t lie when it comes to how it feels when you lose your mate. I understand that you felt like you were cheated with her death but that does not excuse the fact that you left your daughter alone to grieve.” I say moving to in front of the fireplace. “Neither you nor Alex deserved losing Linda, but you have to pull yourself together and be there for your daughter as she needs to be there for you as well.” As soon as I finished saying what I was saying, Sebastian burst into tears ashamed of his actions. He cried for a short amount of time before dropping to his knees, “I know and I will do everything that I can to make it up to her. I pray to the Moon Goddess that you and Alex will have many years ahead of you. I vow to you again that I will be loyal to you and the pack. I will try and be the person that you, the pack and Alexandra need.” I walk over to where Sebastian is kneeling and crouched so I could look him in the eye. “Sebastian you and Alexandra need time to grieve together over this tragedy, neither of you are alone, just remember that. Make the most of spending time together remembering your mate and the good times you all shared.” I saw a small smile creep on Sebastian’s face as he nodded his head. I held a hand out to help him stand. His stomach growled loudly which made him uncomfortable. “Before you go and sort this out with Alex I think you need a shower and get cleaned up before you come and have breakfast. You smell terrible. There is spare clothing in the spare room at the end of the hall that will fit you.” I smile and he smiled back nodding his head agreeing with me. I sighed as I watched him head towards the stairs. He stopped as he reached the stairs before turning back around to me, “my daughter is lucky to have you as a mate.” he said before disappearing to freshen himself up. I smiled and felt my ego grow slightly with what Sebastian had just told me. I was still smiling as I made my way to the kitchen where I knew Alex was waiting. When I walked into the kitchen I saw Alex staring out of the window. I knew she was worried about what was said between me and her dad. She was to busy with her thoughts that she hadn’t realised that I had come into the kitchen. I walked up to her and wrapped my arms around her waist feeling the familiar sparks fly up my arms. She jumped and turned around suddenly and wrapped her arms around my waist. We held each other for ages till she pulled me away making me and rowan whimper a little bit. She looked up at me with a shocked look on her face. “How did it go?” she asked me as she stood there still in my arms. “Well I think I was able to get through to him but he is the one who needs to tell you why he did what he did,” I hated myself for not telling her what happened but I knew it was her father’s place to explain it to her.” “Ethan, please tell me something about what was said.” she pleaded with me pouting those lovely lips at me. “Is he OK?” “He will be in time baby, trust me,” I said trying not to laugh at her expression. “Plus I need to ask you when did I agree that I was to sleep in another bed and not my own?” “Ethan, seriously you really want to talk about this now?” she asked trying to get out of my arms embarrassed. “Don’t worry you will have your bed back tonight as I will sleep in my own bed at my house.” This is not the answer that I was wanting to hear as I wanted her to stay with me. “Alex, your my mate and it’s now your room and bed as well,” I said watching her waiting on her reply. “Sorry if it inconvenienced you, I just needed to be somewhere that wasn’t my house recently,” she said as she busied herself with making us breakfast. I let out a small growl which made her stop her from doing what she was doing. She spun to face me crossing her arms over her chest. “Seriously, did you just growl at me?” she glared at me. “I did. You haven’t inconvenienced me with you sleeping in my bed as I loved the fact that you were sleeping there, I just wish that I could’ve joined you,” I said taking a step closer with a grin on my face. “I mean you are my mate and I love the fact that our room smells of you.” As I approached her she took a step backwards trying to escape me, but I was feeling cocky and loved the fact that she was trying to avoid my advances. I took another step which made her back up till she was against the wall. “Now babe looks like you have nowhere to go,” I grin as I trap her with my arms on either side of her body. “Now what are you going to do?” I watched her as her breathing begun to increase and her heartbeat sped up. I grinned knowing that I was able to make her breathless, I lowered my head towards her wanting to capture her lips with mine when we heard someone clear their throat from behind us. I groaned as I looked towards the person and saw Sebastian standing there blushing as he was looking everywhere but at us. “Daddy!” Alex shrieked ducking under my arm and ran to him. She threw her arms around his waist tightly not wanting to let go in case he ran again. “You OK?” Sebastian stiffened slightly before wrapping his arms around his daughter and hugged her just as tight as she was hugging him. I smiled before walking over to where they were standing and places my hand on his shoulder. I knew they needed privacy to talk and that is exactly what I was going to give them. Both Sebastian and Alex gave me a smile as I left the kitchen. “Zack be ready in five as we’re going to go and get breakfast,” I mind linked my Beta. “Seriously dude, it’s too early to be up, never mind getting breakfast. Why don’t you make something in your kitchen?” He said annoyed that I had woke him this early. “Can’t use my kitchen at the moment as Alex and her father are talking things out,” I tell him as I walked into my room to get myself ready for the day ahead. “Her father is back?” Zack asked sounding more awake now than what he did a minute ago. “Yup,” I reply, as my stomach growls at me. “Get ready now and meet me as I need food.” As I finished in the shower and got dressed I heard a knock on my door before Alex walked in looking happy. She had a mischievous look in her eyes as she walked towards me. “Everything OK?” I asked suddenly feeling nervous that she is up to something. “Yeah, everything is fine now, thanks to your chat with my father,” she replied getting closer to me. “I just wanted to thank you for whatever you did. My father explained it all to me.” I felt my heart rate shoot through the roof as she got nearer. “D-don’t n-need to thank me, honey,” I say feeling my cheeks heat up. Alex smiled before she grabbed my head and pulled my head down to her level and planted her lips firmly onto mine. Now, these are the sort of things I couldn’t wait to do more often with my beautiful mate
