Chapter 10 - Consequences

Adam POV

“We couldn’t get to her before they returned to the pack, she was heavily guarded and had that alpha with her” Carter briefing me on my daughter’s status, as if I don’t already know, we are still playing this game … where he pretends that he still follows my orders and all he wants is the best for Alexandria by returning her to her people, and I pretend that I don’t know his true plans which is to take Alexandria for himself to create a stronger bloodline and gain more power, the only reason he is not turning on me right now is because he thinks I could lead him to her and we could go all force after Derek, I mean starting a mutiny and splitting forces, is not a smart idea when you are going after such a powerful alpha.

“What about the attack?” I ask flipping through the report he handed me.

“It was a failed attack, it was somehow initiated by the support of the neighboring alpha, maybe we could use him for our advantage” Carter suggests.

“We don’t associate ourselves with the mutts, plus, how would that make us look? That we are so weak that we had to join forces with the enemy?” I say offended.

“You are right chief; I guess I’m running out of ideas”,

“Yes, and it shows, pull yourself together Carter”, If he is suggesting something like that, it only means that this is not the first time he considered it, he is getting dangerously desperate.

“Yes chief”, so compliant and obedient, what a great actor.

“Dismissed” I wave him off.

After Carter leaves, there is a knock on the door and it’s Mason Venatores, Max’s older brother, the one I intended to marry Alexandria to but the fool said she was like a sister, I guess he knew she wasn’t interested and just didn’t want to impose or whatever gentleman s**t he always does, or maybe he did that for the sake of his little brother.

“Hello chief” Mason greets me as he enters the office and sits on the chair opposite to my desk.

“Mason, I guess you are here for an update”,

“Well, I saw that fucker was just here and I wanted to know if there is any news”,

“Don’t worry Mason, everything is fine, Alexandria and Max are okay… for now” I say knowing that this calm will not last for long.

“I love Alexandria and you know that, but I’m not worried about her, she has an alpha as her personal bodyguard, it’s my stupid brother who insists on staying on enemy territory, and I don’t think it will be long before Carter knows that Max is with Alexandria inside that pack” Mason says, he has every right to worry about his brother, he is the only family he got left.

“You don’t have to worry about Max, he is one of the best hunters and you know that, he can hold his own, plus, I don’t think Carter will wait for long anyways, he is making moves and will attack soon, we just have to be ready and that damn alpha better protect my daughter and keep Carter and that f*****g king away from her”, never have I imagined that I’ll put the safety of my family in the hands of the enemy, a f*****g werewolf of all people but I guess the moon goddess had other plans.

Dylan POV

We felt it, when the alpha marked the Luna, we all felt it, we felt the connection, even Max felt the shift of power in the air, that is not suppose to happen, not with a human, or any species other than ours, that’s why Max was already heading to their room before Alexandria even called Dean.

“Her Nose is bleeding, what the hell happened” Max shouts as he holds a screaming Alexandria.

“Derek marked her” Sophia says trying to wipe the blood of the Luna’s face and neck, 

“Alexandria” Derek who can barely move from the pain calls for his mate trying to get out of bed, but the simplest move makes him scream even louder and he begins to thrash around , his eyes are already pitch black, his fangs are extended and his claws are out … he looks like he is about to shift. 

“We have to sedate them, until we know what the f**k is going on” Dean says trying to hold Derek down and I help him.

Two minutes later … Liam, one of the young warriors comes in with a tranquilizing gun,

“Really Liam? A f*****g gun, you couldn’t find a syringe or doctor Martin?” i shout still trying to hold Derek down.

“Sorry gamma, I grabbed the first thing I saw that could help” Liam says worridily.

“Next time grab doctor Martin”Dean says and at this moment I guess Derek saw the gun and all logical thinking went out of the window.

“RUN” is all I could tell Liam before Derek shifted throwing us to the wall in the process, thankfully he doesn’t go for Liam but he goes for Max who is holding his mate, Derek is no longer in control, that’s full on Rex.

“Max let go of her and move away” I warn Max as Rex takes dangerously slow steps toward them,

“I can’t, What if he hurts her?” Max says holding Alexandria even tighter and Rex Growls menacingly.

“Let go of her or your head is going to let go of your f*****g body Max” Dean yells at him.

“She is his mate Max, he’ll never hurt her, right now he thinks you are” Sophia says trying to convince Max and he reluctantly lets go.

Rex immediately Runs to his mate and wrap his body around her, licking her face, she clutches his fur for dear life which seems to help as her screams calm down a bit, Alexandria sinks further into his fur until there are no screams at all,

They both start to calm down till they fall asleep in this position probably exhausted from whatever the hell they just went through.

We leave the room to let them rest and go to the private living room on our floor to discuss what to do; we start to sit down when Max tells us that he contacted Alexandria’s brothers.

“Why would you do that Max?” Dean snarls.

“Because none of us have a clue what the f**k is happening to them and they might know what the hell is going on” Max answers.

“I think it’s a good idea Dean, we are in a totally new territory” I agree with Max.

“But what if they tried to take her away again” Sophia asks concerned.

“They won’t, the last time they thought Derek let her get hurt and they didn’t know they were fated mates, and now even her father is on board and agrees that here is the safest place for Alexandria” Max explains.

The lights start to flicker and there is heaviness in the air, they are here.

“Where is she?” the guardians appear out of thin air, asking in unison and we all get startled.

It’s the first time I see the guardians, and they are as intimidating as their reputation say, you can feel the power oozing out of them.

 I wrap my arms around Sophia in case things went south and I notice that she is blushing with a shy smile … why the f**k is my mate blushing?

“She is resting with Derek” Max answers.

“Where?” one of the guardians asks again.

“In their room, Jacob” Max answers like he is stating the obvious, having no worries what so ever that he is addressing the guardians.

“Where?” they ask again.

“Do they only know one word?” Dean asks and with a glare from the twins the lamp next to him explodes. 

“Guys, stop that s**t; you are here to help not destroy the damn place” Max yells at the guardians, actually yells, I guess growing up with them has it perks.

“We need to see our sister Max, to know exactly what we are dealing with here” Jacob says taking off his hoodie that was covering half of his face and his brother does the same revealing the rest of their faces and my mate gasps , she f*****g gasps, I mean they are good looking with their grey eyes, dark brown hair and chiseled jaws… fine they look like f*****g models but I’m her mate, all other men should be ugly to her. 

“And don’t yell at us again Maxi, our powers might not work on you but we can still kick your ass” the other one which I guess is Jensen, says.

“Don’t f*****g call me that” Max objects,

“Would you rather we call you Maximus?” Jacob teases with a smirk and I can see from the corner of my eyes Sophia blushing even more, okay, I officially hate them.

“You know I don’t like that either, when did you turn into such assholes?” Max says annoyed.

I agree with Max, they are assholes.

“Maybe we should focus on the matter at hand” I try to move this along so they could leave as soon as possible,

“Yes, the alpha marked Alexandria and we believe that’s the reason why she was affected but we don’t know why Derek was, and we certainly don’t know what that effect is going to be” Sophia says with the sweetest tone she could master,

I know they are powerful and s**t but there must be a way to f*****g kill them and I will make it my life’s goal to find it if my mate doesn’t stop acting like a damn groupie who just met her favorite rock stars.

“Maybe we shouldn’t have saved him” Jensen says through gritted teeth.

“Now is not the time for the overprotective brother stuff, we need to know if you have any idea what’s going on” Max says impatiently. 

“Well, all we have is theories, A pure hunter was never mated to a werewolf before as far as we know, so it’s all speculations” Jacob says,

“And what are these speculations?” Dean asks apprehensively.

“They could be rejecting the marking, but that would only affect her” Jensen says,

“Or that her blood hurt his wolf somehow but that wouldn’t explain what happened to her” Jacob adds.

“His wolf is fine; he shifted and was as powerful as ever” Dean says,

“So that leaves us with only one possibility” Jensen says.

“Which is what” I ask,

“They are exchanging powers” they both say in a dark tone.
