Chapter 1
Either it is a small town or a simple village, all of them are filled with similarities. The familiarizes of a small simple life, school, family, noisy neighbors, and even murders. It is the same throughout the whole world, every small town or village has its own way of life. The very same was for a small town in America. In the very mitten state of Michigan. Deep down in the Great Lake State, not too far from the Mackinaw Bridge laid a small town called Nox Town. The little town is filled with life, with tragedy and secrets.     A secret was ready to be exposed as the morning September sun rose to greet the town’s people. It was not exactly autumn yet, but summer had come to an end for all those returning back to school. In a two-story house on, in the middle of the street on Roxine Avenue was a fresh junior getting ready for her first day. The girl was just below average in height, pale skin, chestnut brown hair in a high ponytail, the ponytail stopped on her midback and arctic blue eyes. She wore a black skirt that ended at her knees, a dark purple blouse, it was tight at the elbows, and around her waist. The purple shirt was decorated with four daffodil flowers in the middle of the chest area. She wore black flats, stud earrings, and a necklace with a rose gold ring that hung down below the surface of her shirt.     Kayla lived alone most of the time, not that she wanted to, but she didn’t have much of a choice. Her mother died when she was still a toddler, and her dad started not to be around as soon as she was old enough to be left home alone. He was always away on ‘business trips.’ Most mornings like this current one was spent alone in quiet for a short lonely time. Kayla sat at the island in the middle of the table and was playing the voicemails of the phone out loud. The very first message was from the physically absent father.     “Kayla! First day of Junior year. Time to get down to the books, SATS are this year. I will send SAT material; I expect nothing but the best. See you on your birthday. Bye sweetheart.” Kayla sighed, her father hasn’t shown up for her birthday since she was twelve, highly doubts he will show up to the next one. The final voicemail was the demon queen of high school, the been making her life a bit more difficult then it needed to be. The demon queen went by the name of Lucy Esser. The girl filled every cruel requirement to be a demon queen. She was selfish, deadly beautiful, captain of the cheer team, a complete nightmare. Lucy’s mother started to try to look after Kayla a little during the long absence of her father in the 8th grade, this sparked something, Lucy. She started to control Kayla, making her own little Lucy’s secretary, constantly all the aspects of her life. Making her do all the dirty work, Lucy dared not to mess up her pedicures in the form of matter. With Kayla’s father’s major absence, Lucy took major advantage of this and would hold parties about every weekend at Kayla’s house, no adults meant fewer chances of getting caught. Fewer chances of getting caught mean everyone's morals drop the second the taste of an ice-cold beer touches their lips or even with the scent sinks into their noses. Lucy’s voice came out of the crawled out of the voice box.     “Listen up slut, you need to be in front of my house by seven fifteen am, no later and no earlier. It is the first day of junior year and I plan on making a bigger dent in this school! MOVE IT!” Kayla’s phone went off right after the voicemail ended, and it was no other than the demon queen herself. Kayla closed her eyes and answered the phone, putting it on speaker.     “Good- “Kayla started to greet.     “WHERE ARE YOU?” Lucy’s voice raged. “IT IS 7:10.”     “You said 7:15,” Kayla recalled from the message seconds ago.     “I KNOW WHAT I SAID! BUT NOW MOE WANTS TO MEET UP BEFORE CLASS! YOU SHOULD HAVE FELT THE CHANGE IN PLANS! I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO SEND YOU SIGNS ALL MORNING! DID YOU NOT GET THEM YOU IMBECILE! DON’T EVEN CHECK! GET YOUR ASS OVER HERE BEFORE I FINISHED COUNTING TO THREE!” The second the phone call ended; her eardrums were intrigued by a pounding coming from the front door. Kayla got off the chair and slowly made her way to the front, the closer she got, the more the impact on the banging. She opened the door to find none of the Lucy Esser herself, and she looked more unpleasant than usual. The young girl had angry cherry red hair, that was neatly curled that morning, and harsh cold amber-brown eyes. Kayla was sure that if she ever looked directly into them, that she would be turned to stone, and that would be on a good day. Lucy wore a see-through tight black shirt; underneath was a floral bralette. She had on a skirt that barely went passed her butt, the skirt was a dark purple, and a had ripped on both sides. Her bellybutton was decorated with a hot pink bellybutton ring, big black hoop earrings, a ring on about everything finger and a silver bracelet on each wrist. She had on black pumps, that gave her more of a chance to her to stare down at anyone, that she viewed as less. So that was just about they knew.     “Good morning Lucy, “Kayla greeted with a forced smile.     “It would be even better if we would be on our way to school,” Lucy growled.     “You just hung up the phone,” Kayla pointed out.     “AM I STUTTERING?” Lucy raised her voice.     “N-no,” Kayla stuttered.     “GET MOVING!” Lucy roared. Kayla picked her backpack up off the floor, grabbed her car keys and left the house.     ‘I normally don’t believe in stereotyping,’ Kayla thought to herself and she opened the car door for Lucy to get in. “But this redhead truly doesn’t have a soul.”
