Eloise POV Everything changed that one fateful day, my mother passed away after a tragic accident which left me and father alone in this world, my mother was our supporter which kept our family together. I was never close to my father. Being an adoptive human daughter and not his blood created a gap in between our relationship. My mother was the only one who used to unite both of us, she tried to clear the differences but now as she is not here everything is falling apart in between both of us. My mother told me that she couldn't conceive and my father wanted a heir, one day she found me in a basket in a dense forest left to die, when my mother saw me she couldn't stop herself from carrying me in her arms. Her eyes were filled with tears as I held her finger tightly with my small fist while cooing, she touched my soft cheeks and kissed me on my forehead that's was when she decided she would adopt me. She decided to raise me as her own child, as I was not a werewolf it was difficult to raise me in the werewolf world so she decided to raise me well in the human world. My father at first was not ready to adopt me because I was not a werewolf but my mother convinced as time passed my father accepted me. I know he loved me dearly but he never showed his emotions, he used to keep it hidden. I wanted to stay here forever but my father had different plans. My grandparents and my relatives adviced my father to return to his hometown. Making this decision was difficult for him but he had to as it was difficult to raise me alone. He needed help but how should I make him understand I am 18 now I can take good care of myself. I don't need anyone to take care of me. I just don't know how to make him understand because he would listen not to me, I know he cares about me as he still takes me like a little kid. “Eloise, have you packed your stuff??”, my father yelled from downstairs. I stopped dumping my clothes in my bag and sighed as I looked towards the door, “Not yet dad!!!, it will take some time”, I replied in a loud tone, so that he could hear me. “Why are these things not fitting in this bag,” I said to myself while I struggled to pack my clothes. I hear a knock on my door, “Can I come in,” my father said while he knocked again. “Yes you can dad,” I said with a small smile while I still struggled with my clothes. My dad opened the door and walked towards me, he looked around my room and then he looked at him. “I think you will need my help, you won't be able to do this alone,” he said with a small smile. I sighed, “It's okay dad, I can do this alone. Anyways, does my decision matter to you? You made a decision alone so I guess I can pack my stuff alone,” saying that I resumed my work. My father stopped me while he held my wrist gently. “We need to talk Eloise, you look disturbed,” he said in a soft and gentle voice. It's been a month since he spoke to me this way after my mother's death. Things have been so difficult for both of us and I can understand the pain he is in right now. “Take a seat Eloise, let's talk,” my dad said in a soft voice while he sat on the couch opposite my bed, I took a seat opposite him while I lowered my head, I tried my best to hide my tears, but I couldn't let him know how I felt. “It would be difficult to stay here Eloise, I wouldn't be able to give you the time you deserve. In our hometown we will have your grandparents there, who will care for you. It would be best to return back, I know it would be tough for you but I know you are a strong girl and you will understand the situation I am in right now,” he said, trying to convince me to come with him. My father rose from the couch and stood in front of me, knelt on one knee, held my hand in his hand, and peered into my eyes; I could see affection in his eyes.“I don't want to leave you alone because there are good people and bad people, you are still young. You were always under your mother's guidance and protection. Now in such a big world you will be very lonely, there could be some people who will take advantage of you.” He said in a soft voice, he got up and caressed my hair. I couldn't say a word, I can understand his situation right now, I cannot be a burden to him and he needs me right now. I need to support every decision he makes. I nodded my head and said yes in a soft tone. My dad smiled and got up from the cold floor and stood in front of me and caressed my hair gently, “I knew you would understand, now let me help you pack your things,” he said while he helped pack my clothes. We were all ready to leave, ohh I am gonna miss this house so much!. I checked every room one last time as we are never gonna return back. I walked towards my car and I saw a man fixing a “FOR SALE BOARD”. Very soon a new family is going to move to this property and I wish good luck to them. I hope they live a good life. As my dad drove, I watched my house one last time from the window, a few tears rolled down my cheeks as all the memories flashed back in front of my eyes as I missed my mom, I wiped the tears near my eyelids. I could feel butterflies in my stomach, how am I gonna survive in a place which is full of werewolves and without my mom. I have been to my hometown multiple times just for a few days and I was comfortable there because of my mom but I was not welcomed there. Everyone treated me like an outcast, my grandparents as well. They used to pretend to be nice in front of my parents and when they just left they showed me their true colors. My mom used to understand their true intentions so she used to never leave me in their care. My dad would never understand that, so basically right now I am like an orphan even after having a dad I feel like I have no family. I put on my headphones and began to listen to music, maybe listening to music might make me feel better. I didn't realize when I drifted off to sleep. After an hour I woke up with a sudden halt. When I opened my eyes I saw my dad outside his car, I took off my earphones and placed my phone in the corner. I got out of the car and saw my dad yelling at another man. We had already reached our hometown. “Everything okay dad,” I said in a soft voice while I took a few steps towards him, he looked at me with anger. He rushed towards me and pulled me by my arm, he walked towards the car and made me sit inside. “Don't come out until I tell you to!!!,” he said in a soft voice, he looked so worried. I nodded my head and closed the door. I knew why he told me to sit inside, no one knows I am a human and if anyone got to know about my secret they would definitely kill me. This is one of the main reasons I hated this place. Werewolf!! I just hate them, they think they are superior to humans as me and my parents used to live in the human world. They used to treat me like an outcast. My dad got into the car and drove towards our house, i didn't dare to ask him any questions, even though I wanted to. My dad looked at the front view mirror and adjusted it. “They tried to act smart with me, things are gonna be difficult for us, Eloise. You need to be very careful as you are a human. Sometimes the spell would not work with a few werewolves, this would happen very rarely but you need to be very cautious,” my dad warned in a serious tone. I am confused right now and I had mixed emotions, my dad made me feel safe. I nodded and said a small yes, my father and mother casted a spell on me which would hide my true identity and make the werewolves feel I am one of them. My dad stopped near our house, I got out of the car and walked towards the entrance while I waited for my father to park his car. He got out with the bags in his hand while he walked towards me. He smiled as he walked towards me “Welcome home,” he said as he walked towards the door, my dad rang the doorbell and waited with the bag in my hand, i could hear the door unlock from inside and then it opened. My eyes widened with joy. It was aunt Gracy who opened the door and greeted us. She was my caretaker and I love her so much. She is tall and a healthy woman in her late 40s. Her dark clear skin and the curls which dropped near her forehead made her look elegant and her beautiful smile. I threw my bag on the ground and hugged her tightly, she caressed my hair with one hand and the other was wrapped around my hips, “I know you have been through so much darling,” she said while she hugged me, tears rolled down my cheeks. I lowered my head as I couldn't stare into her eyes, I would cry even more. She wiped my tears and held my hand tight, “I have prepared your favorite good today,” she said with a smile on her face. “Thank you so much,” I said in a soft voice while I stared into her lovely eyes. My dad looked happy after so long since mother's death as he was back in his hometown. I am happy that he is slowly moving on, that's what matters most to me, if he is happy I am happy. “I will go and take a warm shower, feeling exhausted after the long ride,” saying that I rushed towards my room. As I entered my room I took a good look at it, I could remember my mother. The entire room was clean as my father asked someone to clean the entire house. I walked towards the window and I could feel the fresh air inside, I closed my eyes as the cold air hit my skin. I opened my eyes and smiled as I looked at the garden and the old tree which stood beside my house. This tree has been here for so many years. This old man is still strong but he has lost all his hair. I said to myself while I stared at the dry leaves scattered everywhere, I smiled as I watched the old tree. I rushed to the bathroom and took a warm shower, this was what I needed after a long journey. I wrapped myself in my towel and walked towards my wardrobe. That was when I felt strange as if someone was near my window. I rushed towards my drawer and took out my pocket knife, I walked towards the window and took a look outside “It's just a shadow of this man, Eloise, don't think too much,” I said to myself while I took a deep breath and stared at the old tree I closed my window and walked towards my wardrobe and wore my night suit. I heard my father calling me downstairs. I rushed towards my father and noticed my grandparents standing next to my father. “Look who is here Eloise,” my dad said with a huge smile on his face but I was not excited to meet them, I put a fake smile on my face and slowly moved towards them. My grandmother rushed towards me and hugged me, “How is my little angel?,” she said with a smile while she hugged me. I hugged her back, “I am fine,” I said with a soft voice. I knew that she didn't actually care for me, it was just for formality because of my father. My grandfather caressed my hair, “you grew well Eloise,” he said with a smile. I smiled back at them, “I will get the table ready for dinner,” saying that I walked towards the dining room and began to arrange the plates, I don't like fake relationships, this is one thing that I hate the most. I want to make myself capable enough to live alone and not have to put up with these false relationships. I felt like running away but there is no turning back this time. I walked toward the dining room and helped aunt Gracy to arrange the plates ok the dining table, “You don't need to do that sweetheart, I will do it alone,” she said while she tried to take the plate from my hand. “No aunty, I'll help you”, I said and continued and to arrange the plates My grandparents entered the room and took a seat, my father seated besides me and aunt was serving all of us dinner. We said our grace and began to have our meal. My grandparents couldn't stop talking about what all happened in our absence and I kept listening to them. I wanted to leave but I couldn't. Once I was done with my meal, I carried my plate, looked towards my grandparents, “I'll take my leave now as I am very tired, good night everyone,” I said with a small fake smile on my face, “Good night sweetheart they replied back,” I walked towards the kitchen, I placed it in the basin and rushed towards my room. I switched all my lights and drifted off to sleep. The next morning I woke up with sunlight hitting my face from my window, I rubbed my crusty eyes and walked towards the washroom. I washed my face, brushed my teeth and had a warm bath. I got ready as I had to discover the town and meet some old friends as they were not aware I was back in the town. As I walked towards my living area I noticed a small note lying on the table under a paper weight. I picked up the paper weight and placed it in the corner and opened the note which was left for me. It was from my dad, who said that he won't be back for a few days as he had a lot of work to complete. He has never been home since mother's death, always trying to keep himself busy. Aunt Gracy got out of the kitchen and wished good morning with the brightest smile on her face, I walked towards her and hugged her, “Good morning,” I said while I smiled. She caressed my hair, “Did you sleep well?,” she asked me with a concerned look on her face. “yes I did,” “I'll have my breakfast later, I would like to meet some old friends,” i said while I carried my bag but she stopped me, she took the bag from her hand and looked at me with a worried look her face “No sweetheart you are not going anywhere,” “Don't you know how dangerous it is out there and you are a human” she tried to make me understand. “I know aunty but mom and dad has casted a spell on me and my identity is hidden, you don't need to worry,” I said while I placed my hand on her shoulder and made her understand. She sighed, “fine, but be back on time” she said with a small smile. I smiled back and hugged her, “Ilk take care of myself and I'll be back on time,” saying that I kissed her on her cheeks. I carried my bag, placed the house keys in my pocket and left the house. I walked down the road where my old friend lived. She was my best friend here, the only person who didn't make me feel different. Others treated me like an outcast but she was different. It's been so long since I have been back in my hometown, there were many changes done here so I need to do a lot of searching. Suddenly I noticed a car which was turned upside down, there was a lot of smoke near that car. “An accident!!,” I said to myself while my eyes widened. I rushed towards the car and began to search for survivors, i found a man in the car. He had a mask on his face and head was covered with blood, I placed my finger below his nose to check if he was breathing. I sighed a relief, “he is alive,” I said to myself. I soon began to search for help, finally I saw a few passersby and asked for their help. I got him to the nearest hospital, the doctors took him to the emergency room. I couldn't wait there any longer because I remembered my father's words. I rushed outside the hospital and to my surprise I found my friend who smiled at me with tears in eyes. I rushed towards her and gave her a tight hug. “What are you doing here?,” “Why are you at the hospital?,” “You are fine right”, I said while I checked her from head to toe. I asked her as I was so confused and scared. She coughed as she placed her kerchief on her mouth. “Cold,” she said. “Calm down Eloise!, I am fine. My god so many questions,” she laughed. “Thank god it's just cold and not something serious, obviously I will be concerned!. By the way, How are you Anna?,” I said while I hugged her. “I am fine Eloise, i missed you so much darling,” she said as she hugged me. “I missed you too,” I said while I wiped my tears. Finally someone who brought a smile to my face. We both walked towards the garden which was near the hospital and found a seat to sit. “I heard about your mother, I am sorry for your loss,” she said with a soft voice. “You don't need to be sorry Anna, what has to happen will happen eventually. That's how life is, we cannot change it,” I said in a soft voice. “Yes,” she said while she placed her hand on my shoulder.
