Risen Chapter 4. Not a date — Once Kara was in her apartment, she quickly hurried to her room, she had to take a bath then clean up. It wasn’t a date, yes but she didn’t want Kelly to find out she lived in a dump. She had no time to wait for the water to heat up, so she bathed the cold water she hated so much. By grace, she didn’t faint in the shower, though her skin had goosebumps all over. It was not a date, well at least to one of them. Since it was not a date, Kara wouldn't wear anything overboard, just something she would wear if a friend was coming over. She wore a short and an oversized shirt with her feet inside her white crocs. She started with her room, she made her bed and threw all the dirty laundry in the laundry basket. Now for the kitchen, there was nothing there that needed attention, maybe only the spoon and bowl she used that morning to eat cereal. She cleaned them up and then sat on her couch waiting, for her friend. “12:10, she’ll be here any moment.” Kara talked to her self, she was nervous, very nervous. The thought of her showing up in her apartment, made her feel weak, no one has ever. Her would be here, with her talking and eating, in her little shell, was she ready to let anyone in—Guess we would find out. She heard a knock on the door, that must been Kelly. She was about 4 minutes early, Kara went to open the door. There stood Kelly with all her beauty, she wore simple clothes but she looked extravagant, her smile made her look even more beautiful. Kelly wore a red skirt that was above her knees, her legs were exposed and Kara couldn’t get her eyes off them. Her arms were too, she had on a white vest and her hair was in a bun. Kara had never seen Kelly wear such types of clothing, she always had on office wear or suits. “Are you going to let me in? Or you’re just going to be staring.” Kelly spoke with a shy tone with her friendly smile. “Oh, sorry. Please come in.” Kara stepped aside creating room for Kelly, when she got in, the door was closed behind her. They made their way to the couch, a little laugh will melt the ice. “So what are we watching.” Kelly spoke as Kara switched on the TV. “You choose. I’ll be making us lunch while you watch, sounds good?” Kelly nodded a yes and with that Kara walked out to the kitchen. She couldn’t let a house guest eat takeout, it’s good yes but it’s not welcoming enough. So she made a decision to cook for the first time in week’s, Just for Kelly, for a friend. She started preparing the food, it was just pasta and chicken stew. It didn’t take long for her to finish preparing lunch, it always helped Kara be focused and calm, she hated to say it but she missed cooking. She set the dinning two for two, she hasn’t used it in ages, she normally eats in the kitchen on the counter or on the couch. “Lunch’s ready.” Kara announced as she went to get Kelly. Kelly was watching Friends When Kara walked in, Kara enjoyed that show, she didn't even know it was on today. “I like the show, that’s why I was watching it.” Kelly said as she got up, she adjusted her skirt. “Me too. Shall we?” Kara pointed in the direction of the dinning room. They walked to it, the food was on the serving dish. Kelly sat across from Kara, just the right place to sit when watching someone you like eat. “You’re a great cook. With this type of cooking, I bet you look forward to eating your cookings.” Kelly took another spoon full of the rice. She wasn’t lying when she said Kara was a great cook, she really was, she enjoyed cooking mostly cause Alex loved the being fed like a baby thing. It made her feel important and useful. “Thank you, I’ve been told so. But I hardly cook anyone, today’s the first day I’ve eaten my cooked food and cooked too in months.” We all know why Kara didn't cook, it remained her of Alex. She is still grieving, it takes a long time to let go on the one you love. “Sorry I didn’t know you stopped cooking, I didn’t —” Kara cut Kelly’s apology short. “It’s okay, I don't talk about it. People don't know me or anything, there’s no need to apologize.” “I’d like to know you more.” Kelly suggested with a weak smile, she knew Kara would not like that or allow it. Kelly knew what Kara wanted her to know, being friends with people was out of questions and telling people about herself was a suicide case. As much as Kara was sweet and seemed like a caring person, there was a part of her that was dark, cold and so secretive, even the government couldn’t compare. Kara didn't say anything, she had nothing to say, only her frequent phase ‘It wouldn’t end well. I don’t want to be responsible for another loss, I’m not what you think I am.’ the list of reasons never ends. She just smiled and continued eating, so did Kelly, she didn’t want to mess the only good thing going on between Kara since she showed up. Kara gathered all the used dishes, she packed them in the dish washer while Kelly stood there saying nothing and doing nothing. Kara refused many times to let Kelly help her, so Kelly sat there doing nothing but admiring the view. Kara could feel Kelly’s eyes biting through her skin, it kind of made her feel, guilty. For giving Kelly the cold shoulder, after all she did just want to know her better, but that’s the problem, it wasn't possible, everything would just come crushing down. It would be too much to bear, even for Kara Dickson. Kara cleared her throat, it got Kelly’s attention, bringing her back to reality. She was embarrassed, Kara caught her practically have s*x fantasies of her. “So, what do we do now. What do friends do.” Kara asked Kelly who was still embarrassed. “They gossip about another friend or just talk about stuff.” Kara never wanted to talk about anything and she couldn't gossip, she barely knew anyone. Kelly noticed Kara's lost enthusiasm on the talking topic or gossip, so she spoke “We can just watch something. The talking isn’t a necessity.” “Okay. Shall we?” They both made their way to the living room, to just watch and do no talking. Kelly was the first to choose what they would watch, Kara though she would choose some sappy romantic move or series but she chose a pretty good show, The originals. Kelly left after they watched a couple of episodes, around five. Kara did have fun though she felt bad for shutting Kelly out, she knew Kelly felt uncomfortable but she did nothing, which made her feel even worse. “Well, she hates me.” Kara was tired, not physically but mentally and emotionally. Well physically too, it was a long and frustrating day. But Kara was tired of everything and everyone, it was frustrating, she had so much anger bottled up, she had to let it out, she knew exactly how. It was time for her dinner, she had some leftovers from the afternoon, but we both know she won’t eat it, not today anyway. She ordered some takeout again and waited for it to show. It eventually arrived, Kara eat her lonely sad meal. When she was done she throw the cardboard in the trash, then locked up her apartment and went to her room. A long day required a long Sleep, it's just logic. She didn't even change from her clothes, she just jumped on the bed and let the sleep consume her.
