Risen Chapter 3. A Saturday run — It was the next morning a Saturday morning she had the whole day to herself no one and nothing to do or disturb her. Kara rolled over to her alarm which stood on the night stand she didn’t understand why she even had a 6 o’clock wake up call on Saturday morning. After turning and tossing trying to find sleep again kara finally came to a decision, she was just going to stay awake because it was obvious sleep didn’t want her. She walked out of her comfortable sizable bed with her body a bit tired she went to the bathroom, with luck she didn’t run into any objects. She splashed herself with cold water it helped keep her eyes open. Kara walked to the kitchen for a bit of her usual quick breakfast, yes she made herself milk cereal again it wasn’t satisfying not one bit it was lonely sad. After she was done with breakfast Kara went back to her bathroom to take a bath just for the sake of staying clean and lacking activities. The bath she drew everyday was always satisfying never had it once disappointed honestly every warm long shower or bath was to Kara. She walked out of the bathroom with a lighter mood she felt fresh, calm and very much clean. She slipped on her oversized t-shirt with her most comfortable short on days like these she always read books but today she wanted to watch TV, maybe there was something interesting for once. She threw her body onto the couch right after switching on the screen. The disappointment was expected, “Nothing absolutely nothing to watch, this is why I read.” She mumbled under her breathe in frustration, in hopes of finding a show she continued flipping from channel to channel. After going through all the channels with success of finding a show she found nothing, Kara switched off her television she threw the remote on the couch then left the room. Kara went to the kitchen then got herself a glass of water taking it all in one go she left the cup in the sink. She frustrated she found nothing to distract her which was horrible she didn’t want to think of anything. She took small deep breaths slowly it calmed her, yes it’s silly she got frustrated by the littlest things but that’s Kara Dickson. The irrational shy and short tempered girl the most secretive all thanks to that day. Since she had nothing to do Kara decided on going for a long run for as long as it takes. It’s been weeks since she ran maybe even months it’s like she became even lazier since she started going to therapy. She planned on stopping soon by soon she meant next week or the other she just had to find a way to tell Kelly with a good reason. Kara walked over to her room all she needed were her running shoes, a big black hoodie to cover her up and some tights to were under her short. When she finished dressing up Kara got her headsets and phone before walking out of her apartment and locking it. The morning sun welcomed the young runner it shone on her fair skin the fresh breeze passed through her dark hair. She quickly wore her hoodie then popped in her headsets the song that played was Godspeed by Frank Ocean. She carried her feet toward the way to the park with her hoodie covering her and her song’s shutting out the world she began to run as fast as she could. She kept going faster with each step tolerating the pain that passed through her legs. Physical pain was better it really was unlike emotional pain you didn’t know where it came from or how to treat it, it was death itself. Kara pushed her body to it’s limit her legs giving up but she kept running it was all worth it. After running for what seemed hours Kara came to a stop on one of the park benches, a bit of rest and she would be back to running. The bench she sat on was near a large tree that provided some shade from the weak uprising sun. She leaned back as she tried to control her breathing her face and probably everything that was covering her up was beginning to be soaked in her sweat. She sat there until her breathing was back to normal her sweat a bit faint due to the passing breeze. Along came another woman who also seemed to be running but seeking temporary refuge on the benches. “Funny seeing you here Kara.” The woman spoke still panting Kara knew that voice after rethinking who it might belong to, she found out it was Kelly so she looked at her. Kelly wore her usual welcoming smile her hair was tied in a bun and her body dressed in running tights and a purple jersey probably covering her vest or shirt inside. This woman was charming, simple and beautiful, she could mesmerise anyone—and yet she wanted Kara. “Hello.” Kara greeted Kelly without even bothering looking into her eyes. “Hie.” There was silence between the two women both knew nothing on what to talk about the only conversation they had was between a patient and a doctor. It was weird what would she say something that doesn’t concern her problems? Or just stay quiet. Kelly cleared her throat this got Kara’s attention, she looked to find a smiling Kelly she gave her a shy smile then looked away again. “So.. you run often?” Kelly started a conversation, she couldn’t tolerate the silence anymore. “Its been a while but I used to, how about you do you run often?” Kara was now facing Kelly, their eyes met which made Kelly blush. If someone walked by now it would be more obvious that she wanted Kara or they wanted eachother. “No, I only run on Saturdays. Why today something must have happened.” Kelly raised her eye brow questioning Kara. “Today’s just really boring, I had nothing and still have nothing to do.” Kara answered Kelly her tone mutually bored by the day. “You could have watched TV.” Kelly suggest, if only she knew there was nothing to watch she was left with no option. “I tried that, there was nothing fun. Reading, didn’t feel like it.” “Then go out with friends.” Kelly regretted it as soon as it came out she knew Kara, she knew what happened, she knew she had no one. Quickly trying to fix things and kill two birds with one stone she spoke, “Like me here we can go around town or just stay at your place or mine. Just friendly stuff no diagnosis.” Kara didn’t want to let anyone in, if she did this it would be the first and last right? She didn’t want to disappoint Kelly. So she had no choice but to agree it would help pass some time. “Not a bad idea, You can come by my place around noon.” Kara had a friendly smile on which made Kelly smile—well with the fact that Kara agreed too. “Sounds like a date.” Kelly commented before they all got up and went their separate ways for now. She said date, is it really a date? It’s just two supposed friends talking right? Kara kept the cycle going, over thinking everything like she always did all she hoped was the day be fair.
