Risen Chapter 1. Therapist — “Seriously babe, get up.” Alex tried to wake me it being the third time that morning. I was never a morning person and she knew that not once in my life would I wish to be, but never once did she let me be. I turned over to her my eyes still a bit drowsy, “Why though I don’t have work neither do you, let’s just make love all morning.” I pulled my girlfriend back to bed, she came without a struggle laying beside me. When I turned to her she was smiling the type of smile that lightened up my rainy days, like children playing we went under the covers. Under the sheets with her were full of giggles, those priceless moments I never wanted them to end. —°°— Kara woke up from her sleep with a heavy heart and a massive headache. Every night she had dreams of the priceless memories she had made with Alex, but other nights she had nightmares of that day she died, the day everything changed. “s**t, I f*****g hate this world.” She whispered under her breathe. She despised the world of the constant reminder of her loss, she knew it she lived it she didn’t want to dream it. She forced herself out bed she a long day awaited her. First with her therapist then off to work in the book store. Ever since the incidence a months ago she has been keeping a low profile, she didn’t want to be found even if she had nothing to live for. She stepped into the shower boiling warm water hitting her skin, it hurt to think of it but she did relax her. That was thing about Kara she took long hot skin boiling showers to fill the warmth she lost months ago. Everyday was dark and rainy worse then the pervious, nothing made them better not the therapists, nothing. Out of the shower she came out her body covered in droplets, she brought her towel to her skin drying her body. When all was done she covered her lower body with the towel. She walked over to the bathroom sink preparing to brush her teeth Kara took her toothbrush then brushed them clean. She walked out of the bathroom clean and ready for the day, her feet took her to the closet it was about time she got ready for the day. A plain old black t-shirt was thrown over her head which was followed by a black jeans, she slipped on her black high top converse. With one look at herself through the mirror Kara went out of her small room to the kitchen, it was time to have breakfast something she never looked forward to. Her apartment was not at all big it was small but yet it still left lost, like the void in her heart—something was missing and she knew what it was or who it could be. She poured herself some milk and cereal that being the only breakfast she prepared every morning. No, not because she had no food but cooking reminded her of Alex even if it were just eggs. It took her not more than two minutes to empty the bowl of cereal when she finished, she grabbed her bag and the apartment keys. She walked from her apartment to the bus stop it only took the bus ten minutes before it arrived at her stop. For the mean time she always listened to music. The music played in an endless loop of sad songs. Yes, Kara Dickson listened to life draining songs with heart aching lyrics. She was never happy she saw no reason to listen to happy songs and plus sad songs were catchy. The bus pulled up just in time she got in going to the far back no one was ever there but to make sure she wasn’t seen, she wore her hoodie and kept her head down while her ears were occupied with music. She felt a light tap on her shoulder it startled her. Not knowing what to do but face the person she was panicked by the thought of it being them. To add on her nerves the voice spoke, “Young miss, is anyone sitting there.” It was a friendly older woman with a smile on her, she pushed her fears aside looking up she gave the woman a simple nod no. The woman sat down next to her she never sat near anyone so she moved a bit away from the woman on the seat. Never bothering to look at her any further her headsets were in and the music played while her head stayed low. The bus came to a stop, this was her stop her stop to the therapist. She got up and left as quickly as she could—leaving the older woman alone with her thoughts about the strange kind lady she had just met. Another five minutes and she’d be sitting across from Dr. Stone pouring out her problems. The only person she ever spoke to the only one that heard her absurd thoughts and memories, the kind lady doctor in her life the woman she would date if she wasn’t broken. “Dr. Stone will see you now.” The receptionist notified Kara. Another beautiful lady Kara Dickson would date if she wasn’t broken. Her hazelnut eyes her big white smile charmed every client who walked in even Kara. But there would always be this thing about Kara no one was ever good enough compared to Alex. No eyes compared to Alex’s honey like eyes her big cheerful smiles with her right dimple, no one ever would. Kara got off the chair she walked to her therapists room. The grey walks and the sweet scent of rose’s made her feel safe unlike her apartment there was warmth in this particular office, the warmth that was never in her house. Kelly, Dr. Stone sat on her office chair with a huge smile as Kara sat down she returned the smile only that her’s was small abrupt and shy. “Lovely morning, isn’t it.” Kelly spoke with a delightful tone breaking the ice. Kara never agreed to her cheerful or her free spirited words, she never thought the morning was ever lovely nothing was. “It could be better.” That’s all she said as she leaned against the couch she let it’s soft and warm welcome devour her everytime. “Still being you, let’s start today’s session. How did your day start.” Kelly leaned in forward towards her desk intrigued by the stories Kara would soon tell today. Kara always struggled on how to begin these types conversations she worried she’s said too much or too less but either way she always talked. She placed her eyes on the ceiling she sighed before words began spilling out of her like an open tap, “Like any other day the same lonely and boring, I woke up feeling worse then any another day.” “Mind telling me why.” Dr. Stone looked at Kara’s face looking for any showcase of emotion there was none like any other day. “I dreamt her.” Kara stopped trying to remember what happened again the sweet memories she had. She abruptly closed her eyes then opened them again, Dr. Stone noticed the showcase of emotion. Kara was in pain extraordinary and unbearably pain. “What did you dream.” Dr. Stone asked in attempt to derive Kara away from her thoughts. She knew it was her job but seeing patients like this made her heartache. Mostly for a patient she considered a friend though Kara never acknowledged it and they only saw and talked when it was her appointment. “I dreamt of the good times we had, At our previous home it was a sunny and we had no work. The moments under the bed sheets—not s*x just us fooling around.” Kara felt her heart ache every time she thought of that good time. Dr. Stone kept listening and asking questions untill their hour together was done. Kelly wanted more than an hour with Kara but Kara never would allow her to get close. She didn’t want another death haunting her for the rest of her life. “I’ll see you tomorrow.” Dr. Stone said to Kara as she got ready to leave. Kara wasn’t much of a talker she simply smiled then walked out of the office.
