Alex’s words from earlier flashed in my mind the entire drive back.
How dare he say that I was insane? He’d never spoken to me like that before, and it worried me. I wanted to scream at him, to tell him that he was wrong, but I knew better. I’d known Alex since I was a child, and I knew that it was best not to anger him at times like this.
It was clear his infatuation for me was fading, and yelling would only make things worse. Right now, the only leverage I had over him was the affection he had for me from that accident. It hung over us like a noose.
