Chapter 57

King Nicholas’s POV

The meeting reconvenes after the challenge and lunch. Seeing Anna show her skills was heart-wrenching and awe-inspiring. She is a skilled fighter and shooter, but watching her fight future Alpha Curtis was very hard. Even though he never touched her, the possibility that she could be hurt was too much to handle. I would never want my mate to be fighting or facing danger. I want her safe. If there was any danger, I would fight for her. Even though I was white knuckling the railing of the viewing area the whole time she was fighting, she was amazing. She took down her opponent in no time. She is skillful, agile and powerful. I am proud of her and her abilities, but at the same time, I have reservations about a mate who can fight. Am I wrong to want a submissive mate that allows me to be the fighter and dominant person in our relationship? I have a lot to think about.

During lunch and while speaking to the other Alphas, I am happy to say things have been going well. I am building the relationships I should have been building over the last four years, and they all support the implementation of a new council. I think the council serves a vital role, just the wrong people have been put in place and corrupted the council. I discussed how the future council will be appointed with Abel and Victor and ran it past Xander. I think I have a solution and will present it to the other Alphas this afternoon.

As the Alphas start to file back into the conference space, I catch a faint smell of peonies. The smell has Fury standing to attention.

“What is that? It smells good?” he growls

“We have a mate and that is not Anna’s scent” I reply

“I know, but it is also arousing, it is not as strong as Anna and Ruby’s scent, but there is something”

“I already have to figure out my bond with Anna. I am not getting tangled with the possibility of another bond” I say

I walk onto the stage and take my seat. Xander starts the meeting.

“Welcome back everyone. I wanted to inform you all of the results of the challenge; Annalisa Royal won all areas of the challenge and the petition to allow female alphas has been started with Alpha Ethan of the Cold Mountain packs signature at the top. We would also like to let you know that Alpha Curtis has made a full recovery and is present for the rest of the meeting. We would also like to congratulate him on finding his mates, a set of twin sisters from this pack” Xander says

There are cheers, clapping and congratulations are heard throughout the room.

“We would like to take official votes from everyone on how to proceed now that everyone has been presented with the information and evidence of the situations. Current Alphas, future alphas and any Lunas present are expected to vote. There is a device at each seat for you to vote. It is a yes or no, and we will allow for questions or items to address after each vote. If another vote is needed based on that information, it will be done” Xander says

“We will start the vote with the proceeding to destroy the trafficking ring. Please vote yes if you are in favor of destroying the trafficking ring, no if you have reservations or questions” Alpha Derrick instructs

“We have 127 votes to proceed, no votes against” Luna Teresa says

“The next item up for vote is confronting the twenty packs that we have evidence of participation in the trafficking ring. Please vote yes to proceed with confronting these packs, no if you are against or have reservations or questions” Alpha Derrick instructs

“We have 110 votes to proceed, 17 votes against” Luna Teresa says

“Of those that voted against, are there questions?” Xander asks

“Yes, my name is Alpha Pierce of the Redmoon pack. I would like more information on how this will be done. Will there be council support, or will we just be attacking them? Also, what happens to their land and packmembers? I would also like to review the evidence of their participation again before we proceed with taking down a fellow alpha”

“We have discussed these things with the King and feel a formal investigation and removal by the council is the best way to go. We would like those packs that neighbor the suspected pack to support the council and King. Meetings will be had to discuss dividing the land and packmembers among those neighboring packs. A meeting to discuss the evidence in more detail can be arranged” Xander comments

“I will change my vote based on this information” Alpha Pierce states

“I am Alpha Cord of the Moonlight Pack. The use of the council is based on the removal of the current council?”

“Yes, which is our next item to vote on. And the King has a plan for the implementation of a new council” Alpha Derrick says

“I would also like to change my vote based on the additional information provided”

“Are there any further questions or reservations?” Luna Teresa asks

“If not, lets vote again for the confrontation of the alphas who participated in the trafficking ring”

“There are 127 votes to proceed, no votes against” she comments

“The last vote is to appoint a new council. Before we vote, I would like the king to present his plan for this process and answer any questions you may have”

I walk up to the podium and signal for Gordon to bring up the pictures of the current council members.

“These are the current members of the council. The ones that we have proof are aware of and participating in the illegal things going on in the kingdom are these five; Elders Peters, Lincoln, Edwards, Jacks and Rhanes. These are the ones I want to remove immediately and convict for their crimes. I plan to have a conversation with Crawford and James. I don’t feel they are aware of what is going on. Though I don’t think they are guilty or participants, I question the process and accountability of the council that things have been going on for so long, and they are not aware of or have done anything to fix things. If my investigation of them is negative, I wish for them to stay. I would like to keep the number of members at an odd number to avoid any ties in voting on issues. I wish to appoint one Elder on my own, someone I feel has the integrity and conviction for the role. I would like to have a voting system for the other candidates”

I have Gordon bring up a map of the Kingdom.

“This is a map of the Kingdom. I suggest we divide the kingdom into four quadrants and have two alpha from each quadrant voted into the council by the fellow neighboring alphas. This puts 30-32 packs in each quadrant. This process ensures that each area is represented. These people will also be the main elders assigned to that area. Allowing them to divide up the packs in their quadrant but still be accountable to each other. This stops the Elder from having to leave their current pack and live somewhere else. It makes them more readily available to the neighbors and more aware of things going on around them. The voting process will include; each pack in the quadrant nominating a qualified candidate. This can include any reliable person (male or female) an ex-ranked member or one that will be stepping down within the next 4 months. Current sitting ranked members will not be part of the council. A detailed CV on why this person is nominated and, fit for the position will go along with the nomination, a specified date for all elections will be chosen and all ranked members, male and female from each pack will then vote. Majority wins. Each pack can implement their own process for nomination and voting. Elders will serve a term of five years. At that time they can be re-nominated or removed. I would also like to make this meeting an annual event. To foster relationships, alliances, discuss big issues and concerns that affect the kingdom”

“Currently, Elder Crawford’s original pack is in quadrant 2 and Elder James’s original pack is in quadrant 3. So, we would be voting for two alphas from quadrants 1 and 4, and one alpha from quadrants 2 and 3. If that changes after I speak to the two current Elders, I will make everyone aware. They would serve the term of 5 years, and then we will vote for two from each quadrant based on the nominations. Does anyone have questions about this plan?”

There were a few minor questions, but everyone seemed to agree with my plan. The vote was 127 yes’s to proceed with the removal of the old council and implement the new process.
