Chapter 63

Annalisa’s POV

Breakfast was amazing. We first celebrated a successful summit, then we thought there was going to be an argument between the family about my grandparents wanting to go with me to Dark Hollow. Luckily, that went well, and my uncle did not fight them. I am actually glad I will have more family present that day. Though I know it must happen as the day approaches, I get more and more nervous. Then the best news ever is announced. Not only is Teresa pregnant, but also Tessa. We will have two new additions to the family soon. I am so excited. My family considers Lawrence as part of our family, but out of respect for Robert and Tara, he is seen like a cousin and not a grandchild.

Before we ended breakfast, I drop my latest news on the family. I inform them of Mina’s message from the Goddess and how she wants me to be happy with a mate, even if it’s not Nicholas. How she understands that things that have happened in my life that may have changed me into the person I am now, so Nicholas and I may not be as compatible as we would have been originally.

“How do you feel about this?” my aunt asks

“Confused. I feel something towards both men, it is stronger with Nicholas. But I know my lifestyle is not what he wants, and he feels guilty for not wanting who the Goddess chose for him. To be honest, I am perfectly happy being by myself”

“You are still young and still processing things that have happened to you. I am happy that the Goddess is giving you another chance” grandma says

“Don’t forget you are only going to be 17. Although you have Ruby, you still may not feel the bond as strongly until your 18th birthday” grandpa says

“You know who your second chance is?” Tessa asks

“Yeah, but I prefer not to tell as yet. I have thought about it and I will say if things go the way we hope this weekend, it will be easier to integrate my second chance, actually third chance mate, into my life than Nicholas. I have to accept that I have responsibilities and obligations too”

With that there is a knock on the door and Gordon sticks his head in.

“Come in, Gordon. We are finishing up” Uncle Derrick says

“I have been catching up on the video surveillance for the last couple of days and I have some information for you that may adjust how you approach the other packs involved in the trafficking ring”

“Okay, I will contact Nicholas and his men. We will meet you in the office in about thirty minutes. It’s time to formally see the Alpha’s off the territory”

Gordon nods and leaves the room. We all get up and file into the foyer. As the family and hosts of the event, it is protocol that we greet those who attend on entering and leaving the event. We stand in a line with Xander and Uncle Derrick at the head. I am towards the end. I didn’t think I needed to be here, but uncle Derrick said he feels my presence is needed and if I take the Alpha title, me being here puts my face in front of those I will be working with and supports the petition. He will be a wonderful Elder.

Alpha’s, their families and some ranked members start to leave the dining room or come from the upper floors. Aunt Opal had a system for their exit, where their belongings have already been put in their vehicles, and they are outside and waiting for them upon departure. I have gotten many encouraging words and smiles for the Alphas present at the summit and I hope this all proceeds to the petition and vote that will occur later.

The first alpha I greet is Alpha Mitch. He and my dad we’re long-time friends, and he has a son and daughter a few years older than me. We have talked a few times in the last few days.

“I am so happy you are okay. I am sorry you went through that and for so long” he says

“It was not your fault, Alpha Mitch. And what doesn’t break you makes you stronger. I guarantee. I am stronger”

“You must come to the pack once things are settled. Paul didn’t want to leave his mate with her being so far pregnant, but I want you guys to meet. Maybe even get to know Casey better. I know she's older than you but I would like to maintain a relationship. I know once I tell Paul about the summit he will want to meet you and help wherever he can”

“I will be contacting you soon”

We hug and exchange phone numbers. His pack is a good drive from Dark Hollow but now that I am thinking about it, a business deal is forming in my head. I'll contact him in a couple of weeks to make time to visit.

“Annalisa?” I hear my name and look into the eyes of a young girl around my age.

She is smiling and holding out her hand. This is the same girl who was sitting in the foyer yesterday talking to Nicholas. Could she be his second chance? Her aura is alpha, but her demeanor is meek and humble. I guess this is the type of female he is looking for.

“My name is Dawn Trust of the Timber Pines Pack. I wanted to say I admire your strength and fortitude. I hope things go well with your petition. I think you will make an amazing Alpha” she says with a smile

“Thank you, Dawn. I appreciate the acknowledgment”, I say and she follows her family to the dining room

She is exactly the kind of woman Nicholas is looking for. And she is pretty. I want to hate her for stealing my mate, but I can’t. This is just one f****d up situation. After meeting her, I actually wouldn’t mind losing my mate to her. Why am I even thinking like this? I don’t even know if she is his second chance. I hope his second chance is someone like her though. I think she would be good for him. As I think this, Ruby whines in my head. Even though we know we will be blessed with another, the thought of losing our mate is still painful.

The next person in front of me is Alpha Ethan, followed by Curtis and the twins.

“I look forward to an alliance and friendship with your future pack, Alpha Annalisa” Alpha Ethan says with a smile and a nod

“Thank you, Alpha. I look forward to us doing business together in the near future” I said shaking his head with a smile

As he moves on, Curtis picks me up in a hug. I squeal and we all laugh.

“Thank you for everything, Annalisa. You have changed so much in my life and I can’t thank you enough”

“It was my pleasure. You just take care of my girls!” I say breaking the hug with Curtis and hugging Mina and Maura. I wish them all good luck and plan to see them at Curtis’s alpha ceremony

Donovan’s father and brother step up next. They wish me luck with the petition, and thank me for getting through to the stubborn Alpha Ethan. That is when I learned that they are all related, and Donovan and Curtis are really cousins. Donovan then walks up and takes my hand in his. He covers my hand with his other hand, so my right hand is sandwiched between his two hands.

“I will see you soon. I had Maura text you my number. If you ever need me, please call me. Even if it’s just to talk, I want to hear from you. Okay?”

“Yes, Donovan”

He leans down and whispers in my ear ‘I want you, mate’. He then puts a light kiss on my neck that causes a shiver to go through me and my panties to get wet. Is this an arousal? s**t, I have never felt like this before. He sniffs and smiles at me, his eyes turning black. He closes them, and they are back to their blue color. He squeezes my hand then walks away. I watch him leave and there is an unsettled feeling in my chest as he walks out the door. It hurts to watch him leave. What is this? I have no problem walking away from Nicholas and he is my mate? I made a quick comparison of my time with both men and I realize; I have allowed Donovan to get closer than Nicholas ever has. I gathered my senses and look around startled. Did others see me drooling and dreaming about him. I take a quick look around and most of the guests are gone. I then look at my family and of course they miss nothing. The men are looking at me questionably and the women are smirking like I have just gotten caught doing something. GREAT!
