Chapter 64

King Nicholas’s POV

I have decided to extend our stay at Full Moon for another day. I have contacted both Alpha Crawford and Alpha James and asked them to come to Full Moon today. They both agreed and will be here this afternoon. Talking to them here without the possibility of cameras and listening equipment is a better option. In addition, both Abel and Vincent found their mates. Abel’s mate is an Alpha’s daughter from a pack further north and Vincent’s mate is one of the elite warriors. They both met them last night at the ball. Aubrey was working as security at the event and Carey was attending with her parents. In addition to everything else, we need to arrange them to come with us to the castle, so an additional day here would be helpful. I decided to have breakfast in the large dining room with the other Alphas, since they will all be leaving today. I was also hoping to get to see Dawn again. I have been thinking about her all night, which is very confusing because I don’t have the same thoughts for Anna. But my bond and desire are still there for Anna. I need to do as she suggests and focus on implementing the things for the kingdom. We will decide next month what to do about our bond. Until then, I will focus on work. I received a message from Xander that additional information has been discovered, and he wanted to meet in his office in thirty minutes after everyone has left. I unfortunately have to disturb Wilson and Abel, cutting their time with their mates short, but they have to be at this meeting. I proceeded with breakfast and talking to the other pack members.

Breakfast is almost half done, and I haven’t seen Dawn. She did say her brother was sick, so maybe she wouldn’t be coming to breakfast. My mood falters with that possibility until I catch her smell of peonies, and I look up to see her and her brother entering the dining room. They get their food and sit at a table to eat. There is a couple there who I am figuring are her parents. I spend the rest of the time talking to others and pretending not to be watching her. I see her stand up, and I shoot up to the surprise of my two best friends, who are now staring at me and wondering what happened. Before they could question me, I sat back down. I then notice the whole family coming towards us and I had to hide the smile that threatened to spread wide across my face.

“King Nicholas. I am Alpha Arnold of the Twin Pines Pack. This is my Luna Faith, my daughter Dawn and my son Otis. We wanted to introduce ourselves and inform you of our support of your changes. We have had bad dealings with the council that almost ruined our pack. We look forward to a change in that leadership”

“Alpha Arnold, I am sorry to hear about such things and I will be having my Beta Abel reach out to you once the changes have been implemented to see how we can help the Twin Pines Pack. No pack should suffer due to others' negligence”

“Thank you, King Nicholas,” he says with a bow

“And you are Otis? I met your sister yesterday, and she said you were sick. How are you feeling today?” I asked the little boy who looks about 10 years old

“Hi your majesty. I ate too many cookies and got a stomachache”

“Oh, I’ve done that before. Were the cookies good, though?” I ask with a smile

“They were so good and there were sprinkles on them. I love sprinkles”

We laughed at the little boy’s statement and excitement. I shake the family’s hand, including Dawn's, and a warm sensation comes over me. It’s not the tingles of the bond like with Anna, but it felt nice. I watch them leave and get a look from the guys. I tell them we’ll talk later and remind them to follow up with that pack once we get things settled.

We go back to Xander’s office once all the guests have left the dining room. Gordon is already here, setting up his equipment and everyone else should be here soon. They are just doing the formal farewells. I smell her before I see her, as the office door opens and the Royal family enters along with Xander and his mate. Anna was last to enter the room. I am standing by the window. She walks up to me and hugs me. It was not the comforting hug she gave me at the summit, but it was not romantic either. I hugged her back and don’t question, this is the first time she has come to me or shown any affection towards me. Her smell and the tingles are incredible. I just imagine what they could be like if we truly nurtured the bond. Then I look down at her eyes and a picture of Dawn flashes in my mind.

“Do you mind if we spend some time together later? Just a little bit before you leave? To talk!” she asks

I agree and we separate. Xander then gives Gordon the floor to explain what he has found.

Gordon explains that all the Alphas who are participating in the trafficking ring will be at Dark Hollow on Saturday for the party. Some are bringing their ranked members, but most are not. It could be a more controlled environment to approach the Alpha’s instead of possible war among packs. But if we still have to employ the use of surrounding packs to attack while the Alpha’s are away. The fear is that once they are aware of what is going to happen at Dark Hollow, they may try to clean up house and possibly hurt the girls. Anna suggests a coordinated effort, where the larger or equal packs secure the borders of the involved pack at the same time that she attacks Dark Hollow. They will not attack but secure their perimeter right along their border. We would need to discuss participation with those alphas. Also, they have royal guards and a few elite warriors with them. If the pack is presented with a Royal Decree to enter pack lands, then they won’t have to fight to enter. Use the information from each spy to get layouts and people to be concerned with.

We decided to proceed with Anna’s plan. She will work with Xander to contact the alphas and formulate the teams. I will provide them with the decree, and we will figure out which guards are not loyal to the council. I will be talking to Elder Crawford and James today. Then they called a Council meeting for Friday. Alpha Derrick informed me he is accepting the position; so I plan to have him, Abel and Wilson present at the meeting along with the elite warriors that are undercover. Now that this is addressed, I need to see what Anna wants to talk about.
