Chapter 34

Annalisa’s POV

Returning to Crystal Lake after completing the test and getting my tattoo, I take a couple of days to spend with my family before focusing on my mission. I spend time with my grandparents, Tara and Lawrence, and Lucia and the kids. I let Ruby out, allowing her to run and enjoy herself. I don’t know when we will get down time again once things get started. I’m sitting in my room after a run and a shower. I am getting dressed and notice my charm bracelet on the dresser. Between the coma, pregnancy, weight and training I have not worn it much since leaving Dark Hollow. My father always said that everything I need is in this bracelet. I look at the heart charm with the picture of my parents on each side. I close it and notice numbers engraved onto the actual charm. Never noticed that before. The other charm is a wolf, a key. There are two rectangles that are on each side of the charms before you reach the claps. I look at the rectangles and notice that they can be separated. I separate one and pull out a USB. I get my computer and enter the USB. There is only one file on it, which is a video. I click on it and my parents' faces pop up. I stare at them and start to cry. I press play

“Hello my Anna” my mom starts to speak

“If you are viewing this, then something has happened to the two of us, and you finally realized that your bracelet is more than just jewelry. I hope you are doing well, my baby. And know no matter what happened we love you so much”

“Anna, the first thing you need to do is get to your Uncle Derrick. All of this will make more sense when you both watch it. And some of the information you may hear will upset you, so I want you to have family with you” dad says

I stop the video and do as my father says. I take my laptop and the charm bracelet to the office and find my uncle and Thane in there doing paperwork. Thane is taking over next month, so he is sitting behind the desk and Uncle Derrick is on the couch. I also link my grandparents to come to the office

“Annalisa? You okay darling?” my uncle asks

I sit next to him on the couch and put the laptop in front of him. My grandparents walk in, and they all just look at me

“My parents gave me this charm bracelet when I was five. Dad always said; it is everything I would ever need and to never remove it. It was removed and placed with my things when I came here. I have not worn it because of the pregnancy and training. I was looking at it and this rectangle is a USB. I put it in and there is a video from my parents. The first thing it said was to find you, so here I am. I will restart it”

Uncle Derrick cast my laptop to the big screen in the office so we all can see it. I then restart the video

“Hello my Anna. If you are viewing this, then something has happened to the two of us, and you finally realized that your bracelet is more than just jewelry. I hope you are doing well, my baby. And know no matter what happened we love you so much”

“Anna, the first thing you need to do is get to your Uncle Derrick. All of this will make more sense when you both watch it. And some of the information you may hear will upset you, so I want you to have family with you”

“We have put all of our important files and papers on the other USB. Our will, the pack deed and ownership papers, back accounts, company ownership papers, birth certificates and things you will need for both the werewolf and human world to prove who you are. The hard copies are in a safe deposit box at our bank. The box number is the numbers engraved on your heart charm” mom says

“Derrick! Hey big brother. Thank you for looking out for Annalisa, and I’m sorry I’m not there with you. Mom and Dad, if you are there too, I love you! Take care of my baby! Guys, if things are as I believe they are, Clarence will try to take the pack from us. I had noticed a change in his behavior. Not something I can confirm, but just a hunch. Derrick, I sent you a locked box with a note to hold it until the time is right. The key charm on Annalisa’s bracelet opens your box. Mom, Marcia also sent you a box with the same message. The wolf charm opens that box”

“Derrick, when I started to question things, I put cameras up around the pack. No one but Marcia and I were aware of it. The cameras are motion detected and always on, the feed is uploaded to a server at the company. The box will have the code to get into the room and the security passcodes to log into the server. My CEO Walter, is aware of the server room but doesn’t have access. He is aware that you will contact him at some point for access, there is a test to validate that you are who you say you are. He will not take you to the room until this is done. I don’t know when you are getting this information, but within that room there is information regarding corruption among the elders and a possible plot to kill the king. Again, a lot of the information is circumstantial but if things have progressed the way I think they will, it may help in an investigation.”

“Anna, the box I sent Mama Royal has information about our family heirlooms. Dark Hollow was my family’s pack, the Cranes. The pack and our family are quite wealthy. Clarence is aware of some of this wealth, and we think this is one of the reasons he wants the pack, in addition to power. We have hidden everything in multiple places to ensure no one person could find it without the information in that box. What that box also contains is information about a satellite pack that we established about a year ago. We created another Dark Hollow and, on record, it is an extension of the current Dark Hollow, but ownership is in your name and no one else’s. We sent some pack members there and gave them instructions to try and get as many pack members as possible out if anything ever happens. We trust the people we sent there, and we hope at this time they are still loyal and taking care of the members we could save”

“Derrick, Mom, Dad, Opal, Teresa and Thane, I hope you are there too. Thank you, guys, for always being there for Anna and for us. In your own ways, you have made us the people and leaders we are today. We love you all and pray you have a wonderful life. We will be waiting for you in the Goddesses Garden, but I don’t want to see any of you any time soon!”

“Anna, you are our heart and the best thing that has ever happened to us. We can’t express in words how much we love you. We pray every day to the Goddess for good things to come your way. I hope our decisions don’t cause you pain. If they do, we are sorry. We hope you forgive us and grow from any hardship. You be the Alpha, I know you are, and you show these bastards what a female Royal is made of! We love you honey!!!”

The video ends there and everyone is crying. By this time Tessa and Aunt Opal had come into the room. Thane put Teresa on video call so she could also hear the message. We all sit and process what we have just learned. We take in the message and the emotions that come with it. This was my parents' goodbye but also good luck. They set up everything I needed. I could not have asked for better parents.

“It would be Uncle David to turn this all into a scavenger hunt. He was always making lessons into games” Teresa says crying and laughing at the same time

“He did know how to make a lesson fun” I say

“I know it has been years since they both left us, but with this, I finally feel like I have closure” grandma cries

“Okay, we will start with the boxes. Mom, do you have the box David was talking about?”

“Yes, it’s at home in my closet”

“Let’s get the boxes, and we’ll have lunch here while we look at all the information”

We go through the documents on the USB. It’s the ownership paperwork for Dark Hollow 1 and 2, the ownership paperwork for the company, their will, ownership of a couple of houses and cars. The boxes had a lock that was shaped like the charm on my bracelet. When I put in the charm and my fingerprint, it opened the box. We have contact information for the CEO Walter and for the person caring for the annex pack. We contacted both and made plans to meet up with them.

Two days later we met Walter and discussed the business plans and how things were going. Walter was doing an excellent job, and I was in no position to take over, so we will continue things as they are. At some point I will come and learn about the business from him. He was okay with that. He had been in the position for eight years and was thinking about retirement in the next three years or so. The test for Uncle Derrick to validate his identity to get access to the server room was a DNA test. Walter had a special box and when a drop of Uncle Derrick’s blood hit the lock it opened, providing him with the key and security code. Walter took us to the room and left.

Alpha Derrick’s POV

We are standing inside the server room at DMA Enterprises. My brother owned a couple of different companies, and they came under the umbrella group of DMA Enterprises. The headquarters was a small building in the town about 90 minutes from Dark Hollow, it was about 2 hours from Crystal Lake. David was always good at business and investments. Both I and Xander are shareholders in his company, and even almost seven years after his death we are receiving a profit. Just shows how organized and good at business my brother truly was. We have entered all the security codes and features for access to the server room. I have Gordon with me. He is Gregory's younger brother and a wiz at computers. He starts to go through the video footage and stuff saved on this server.

“Alpha there is over nine years of surveillance here. There are around 60 cameras. Not all have audio. Unless you want me to look at a specific date and/or time now, I will set up remote access, allowing me to access the server from the pack because this is a lot of data” Gordon says

“No, just do what you need to for the remote access. I agree this will take some time to go through. Also, I want to be home if something comes up” I agree

We go back to Crystal Lake, so Gordon can get working on setting up the computers to view what’s on the servers. We have reached out to Dark Hollow annex, and we will be going there tomorrow. The funny thing was, when I asked to speak to the Alpha or Beta, I was connected to the ‘Captain’. He said he would not answer any questions regarding the annex over the phone. He needs to confirm who I am and if I am authorized to receive information. We are also meeting on mutual territory first and if I pass the test, then I will be taken to the annex. Weird, but we will figure it all out tomorrow.

We return to the pack around lunchtime. I am having lunch with Opal and my parents. I told them about David’s company, the server room and how my identity had to be validated. We have turned an office into a tech office. Getting Gordon all the equipment he needs to comb through the information from Dark Hollow and to help in Anna’s missions. I am finishing up my last bit of paperwork in my office as Alpha because it is now Thane’s job. He and Tessa will be having their ceremony this weekend. I get a link from Gordon requesting I come to the tech office.

“Alpha, I have established remote access. It seems every camera uploads at 12 and 12. It is set up to do this until it is stopped, or the camera stops working”

“I want to see the camera in the Alpha’s office starting from the day my brother was killed”

Gregory goes back to that date and starts the recording at 12pm. You can see Derrick working and when Annalisa comes into the office after school. She sits and does her schoolwork while he does pack work. When she’s done, he shows her some pack paperwork, starting her training early. Then they go to a different seat. You can’t see them but you hear them. He is telling her about fated mates and how he and Marcia met. Then you hear the alarms. You see him put her behind the fake wall panel and five minutes later Clarence comes in with six men

“What are you doing, Clarence?”

“Fixing a long-time mistake”

“This treason is you fixing a mistake?”

“Yes, Marcia should have mated to me. But no, you come and spoil all my hard work. I was to be Alpha, not you. But that weak ass b***h just fell for the mate bond and chose you. So now I’m fixing everything. I punished her, and now I will take from you what was to be mine”

Derrick lunges across the desk at him and embeds his claws into Clarence’s shoulder before he is pulled off by the six men. They then hold my brother as Clarence elongates his claws and shoves his hand into my brother’s chest, ripping his heart out. I gasped from the action and turned my head. They then look for Annalisa and Clarence screams when he can’t find her. Later that day we hear a conversation between Clarence and his brother Vance about how they must accept the rogues into the pack because the number of members is too low, and the council will question them. They question where most of the pack went. As they killed about 100–150 members in the courtyard, in addition to the ones that died during the attack; that’s only about two hundred members. About 200 stayed. Where are the rest? They didn’t expect so many people to stand with David even with their lives being at risk.

We watched a few days’ worth, but most was just him doing paperwork. We fast-forward to when they started abusing Annalisa. I saw them hit and kick my niece. I see them drag her out of that office by her hair on multiple occasions.

“Are there cameras in the cells?”

“Yes, Alpha”

“We will return to this after returning from the annex. I have seen my brother killed and my niece abused. That is enough for today” I say
