#1 The Hemiltons
“Sandra, this office should be vacant by the time I lift my head up from this desk.”
Chloe Hemilton’s squealing leaves all the five male models inside the room cringing towards the door exit, making the other five who were seated on the bench outside the office waiting in anticipation to be chosen as the next future husband to the ex yet high profile Miss USA, run to the building’s exit without even looking back. Poor Sandra, she didn’t hear a word of what Chloe said, all she could only hear was her name being called with such rage. When she turns her head around towards Chloe’s direction seeking for clarity, the office is already empty. She swiftly shifts to pull the door which is left ajar to shut herself and Chloe inside.
“Are you okay Miss Hemilton?” Asks Sandra, smoothly brushing Chloe’s back with her left hand, leaning the other hand on the desk where Chloe’s head is bent over.
Chloe slowly lifts her head up from the desk and tilts the chair to face Sandra’s direction, gazing directly into her eyeballs. “None of them revive my feelings.”
"No ways."Sandra nods in disagreement. "You were too quick to dismiss them. Besides, you only interviewed five." She goes on to stretch out all her left fingers closer to Chloe's face to support her own statement.
"I have the portfolios of all the 30 participants which include their pictures, remember?" Says Chloe with conviction and eye rolling.
Sandra takes a deep sigh before responding. "Then you just not yet ready to let another man into your life, it’s only been six weeks since you broke up with Kevin. Give it some more time.”
Kevin is Chloe’s ex-boyfriend of less than a year. His relationship with Chloe is apparently one of the longest. Chloe never dates a guy for more than six months and she is always the one doing the dumping. Poor Sandra, because she is always there to witness Chloe’s every breakup and to be a shoulder to cry on, she has even gotten used to Chloe’s dating pattern. She therefore secretly bought a diary naming it ‘Chloe’s Misery’ where she records the dates every time Chloe gets a new boyfriend, that way she knows when the relationship is about to end so she could thoroughly prepare herself to be scolded at, even at petty things like what happened earlier to the poor male models.
Sandra and Chloe met four years back when they were competing for the title of Miss USA with Chloe taking the tittle and Sandra only making it to top five. They both come from New York City and have since been very close to each other. Chloe, a year after her reign as Miss USA, she established a modelling agency in her city naming it CMA (Chloe’s Modelling Agency) and got Sandra to be her personal assistant. To recent, CMA is rated number one Modelling Agency in New York and has over a million models from all different parts of the world.
“I can drive home alone today. It’s either you call Heaven to come pick you up or I can drop you off.” Says Chloe, taking a glance at the time from her wrist watch noticing that it’s already time to knock off.
“Are you sure you are going to be able to stare at those mirrors surrounding your house from now until sleep time alone?” Sandra asks with great uncertainty
“Don’t start with me Sandra.” Giggles Chloe “those mirrors give life to my house. Besides, seeing my reflection time to time makes me forget that I’m alone in that house.” She adds
“Lucky you. They wouldn’t last a day in my house, not when little Heaven is still around. He would make sure he breaks one mirror each day.”
“Lucky me?” Chloe chuckles as she softly beats on her own chest. “Lucky you.” She points at Sandra. “You have a two year old son and a husband to go to every day after work.”
“Don’t be silly, you will also have your own family one day.”
“Argh!” Chloe stands up to give out a loud sigh and shrugs as she stretches out her hand to grab her car keys from the key rag moulted on the wall facing her desk. She remembers that Sandra hasn’t called Heaven, neither had she agreed nor disagreed to her lift offering. “Am I dropping you off or Heaven is coming to pick you up?”
“Ouch, let me call him to come.” Sandra quickly pulls out her phone from her sling bag which is already hanging on the shoulder and rings her husband Heaven. She has been stalling to call Heaven thinking that Chloe will change her mind so they go together to Chloe’s house like how it has been happening for the past six weeks after Chloe’s breakup with Kevin. Both Sandra and Chloe would drive together to Chloe’s double storey mansion for some drinks and also to keep Chloe accompanied since she stays all alone. Heaven would then come later to fetch Sandra.
As much as Sandra thinks the mirrors are a bit too much at Chloe’s house, she can’t help but loves the fact that she can look at herself anywhere inside or outside the house, starting from a doorway which is engraved with mirrored tiles, mirrored door garages all the way to mirrored kitchen appliances. What also entices her is that Chloe’s house is situated in New York’s Billionares’ Row, 57th Street in Manhattan. The place where most of the city’s super-tall luxury residential towers are located and where only high-profile politicians stay including top celebrities and every time she is there; she feels like a queen in heaven.
It’s almost an hour now since Sandra and Chloe left the office to go wait for Heaven inside Chloe’s car at the parking lot. Luckily for Chloe, there is Heaven’s car approaching them saving her from Sandra’s ranting about finding her a perfect man who will marry her and give her kids. Little did she know that all what Chloe wants is a woman to marry, not the other way around.
“Don’t forget to send me the mail concerning the contents of the advert later when you get home.” Says Sandra, cautiously closing the car door rushing into Heaven’s car
“Consider it done. Bye.” Chloe responds with a shrill voice accompanied by an amiable wave to Heaven who is sticking only his head out the car window and waving back to her.
A minute just after Chloe finished saying her goodbyes, tightening her seatbelt and ready to hit the road, her cell phone rings. She fiercely looks at the screen and the name Chesley pops up which then gives her the uncontrollable urge to pick up. That’s how she operates, she never picks up any unfamiliar numbers after working hours unless it’s Sandra or any of her family members.
“Hi Chesley.” She answers
"Hi, my first, how is your schedule looking like for the weekend?"
Chloe gives out a smirk before uttering any word upon hearing the words ‘my first’. Right away she knew that the person behind the phone is none other than her Mom. She is the only person calling her that way because she is the first born amongst four girls.
"Mom, I see you using Chesley’s phone. Is she there?”
“All your sisters are here for the weekend and that’s the reason for my call.”
“Hmm, hold on for me while I check my diary.” She says pressing the phone hard against her ear balancing it with the shoulder while she opens the bag and yanks out the diary book to check her availability.
“Eer..I might be available on Sunday.” She says hesitantly. “What’s the occasion by the way?”
"Your sisters have already arranged something for you here at home and you should come.” Her Mom responds with conviction not allowing her any platform to oppose her statement.
"Ohk,I will return your call in few minutes." She hangs up.
"Don't take long. Chloe…" Her Mom removes the phone from the ear and stares at its screen as if she will see her coming out of it. "Chloe, Chloe, are you still there?
"That's Chloe for you." giggles Chesley, feeling sorry for her Mom.
"She probably hanged up even before you could finish your sentence Mom." Christie backs her sister's statement. She says so by grabbing the phone away from her Mom's hand to stare at its screen to confirm if really Chloe hung up.
"Did she agree Mom?" that’s Charmaine’s lively voice emerging from the kitchen, eyes widely opened, anticipating for a big yes to her question as she cautiously puts down the tray of drinks on the dining table surrounded by all her sisters including their kids, as well as Mom and dad.
The Hemiltons are a big family who share a very strong bond, thus Chloe’s sisters cannot spend their weekends away from their parents unless otherwise. Chloe being the eldest daughter, has always been the black sheep of the family from an early age. She would always be away from the house pursuing her modelling if not at school when all her sisters would be at home doing house chores.
Regardless of the Hemiltons's sisters' differences, their love for each other remains the same. Christie is born second, Chesley third and Charmaine last. The three sisters are all married with kids except for Chloe, and from the look of things she doesn’t even dream of having any kids any time soon. When looking at all four sisters, one would swear Chloe is the youngest. She still looks the same age four years back when she entered Miss USA competition, 25 years old. Thanks to her Mom’s genes, she has taken a lot after her. Indescribable beauty with the flawless skin like that of a newborn, petit body with no curves, breasts that fit into a smallest bra size, tall, exactly the height recommended for beauty queens. Contrary to the three sisters who have the father’s looks and genes. They are medium sized, curvaceous and look way older than their age. All four sisters are only a year older apart from one another.
