CHAPTER 66 “I’ve heard about Baron Miller. It was unfortunatè e, but we can’t do anything about it anymore.” Kai started. Noah’s brows furrowed under his hood. “Didn’t you say Baron Miller may not be the true culprit?” he said in a sarcastic tone. Maybe it’s because he knows Kai was not the man he spoke to before, but Noah simply doesn’t like this man in front of him. “I did, but it doesn't mean I don't believe he's involved, your highness,” Kai replied. It’s a good thing Mia explained everything to him beforehand, so he has a gist of what was going on. Noah didn’t say anything after that, so Kai continued to speak what Tatiana told him to say. “Do you remember the man named Gresley, your highness? He’s a merchant who’s related to Baron Miller and had connections with one of the assassins.” He said. Noah gave a small nod. Of course, he remembered this Gresley. After all, he was the main reason why they knew it was Baron Miller in the first place. “What about him?” Noah asked. “I have confirmed that Gresley has indeed hired those assassins. That simply suggests that Baron Miller was also involved. So, in terms of tomorrow's court trial, it's probably for the best. Oh, and if Gresley is detained as well, it would be a huge plus for us. After all, whether they're the mastermind or not, they're both criminals.” Kai explained. Tatiana smiled under her hood. Good. Kai relayed that well. She thought to herself. Noah nodded in understanding. He figured that much anyways. He has already sent Aaron to find this man named Gresley. Also, Baron Miller has no way out, now that the officials have their hands on the evidence. It was a foreseen outcome. But, their main problem was the mastermind. Even after investigating Baron Miller and looking into every person he had contact with, they still couldn’t find any clue about the mastermind. It was to the point that Noah suspected that it was Baron Miller’s idea from the start. However, if he thinks about how the assassins also threatened his life, Noah couldn’t make out a reason why Baron Miller would want to kill him. Baron Miller was not greedy for the crown, and he has no relations with the Aristocratic Faction either. So, there must really be someone else behind this crime. “That aside, do you have any lead about the mastermind?” Noah asked. Kai was taken aback by this question. He has no idea what to say because neither Mia nor Tatiana had mentioned anything to him about the mastermind. Kai glanced slightly at Mia, but the latter just lowered her head as if saying she also doesn’t know. He then gazes at Tatiana, but of course, he couldn’t expect an answer from her. He then turned to look at Noah, while still thinking of what to say. Kai knows how ruthless His Highness can be. His Highness is definitely not someone who should be trifled with. If he found out that they were deceiving him, it would be the end of their lives. He sighed. He was already starting to sweat from all the pressure and stress. “Unfortunately, we don’t have anything to tell you yet, your highness,” Kai answered after much thought. Kai already has gist on what was going on. His Highness was asking for Investor J’s help with regard to the investigation of the bombing incident. They already found Baron Miller and Gresley as prime suspects behind the crime, but what matters the most was the mastermind. However, since Tatiana didn’t mention anything about the mastermind, Kai figured it would be better to tell His Highness that they don’t have any information yet. Although he wasn’t sure if Tatiana had indeed no idea. Noah nodded. “Alright. If you find anything, tell me immediately.” He said. Kai could only nod in response. He was also not entirely sure about Tatiana and His Highness’ connection. He has no idea whether they were already officially collaborating with each other or not. But considering how Tatiana asked him to pretend as Investor J to meet His Highness, it must mean that she’s cooperating with His Highness somehow. Aside from that, Kai thought Investor J was only about investing and businesses. However, this meeting just proves that it was more than that. Now, Kai became even more curious about Tatiana’s real purpose in starting this thing with Investor J. Was it really merely for owning wealth and power? “Also, how can I contact you? I don’t think it’s appropriate to bother the lady of House Cromello every time I needed to meet you.” Noah added. Kai was once again taken aback. He doesn’t know about this. Neither Tatiana nor Mia mentioned it to him. What should I say? Do I just improvise? Then, Kai remembered a conversation he had with Tatiana back in the South. . “Tatiana, what’s your favorite color?” Kai asked Tatiana. They were just sitting on the ground, taking a break after they finished their training for the day. “Hmm…I don’t know, maybe black.” Tatiana answered without much thought. She shrugged and drank the water she brought. Kai bobbed his head. “That’s unexpected. I thought your favorite color would be red since you know…that’s your hair color.” He said and chuckled. Tatiana disguises herself by wearing a red wig every time she meets up with Kai to train. She also wears magic lenses that Mia found for her to change her eye color to black. This was also why Kai never suspected her of being a member of the House Cromello, which is noted for its silver hair and purple eyes. “You’re just imagining things.” “Then…are crows your favorite type of bird?” Kai asked again as he saw the birds fly in the sky. “No, but I like their black feathers,” Tatiana said and grinned widely. . Right. She likes black feathers, so let’s just use that. He thought to himself. “You know my assistant, M, right, your highness?” Kai said and slightly turned to Mia. Noah also looked at her. “Yes.” He replied. “If later on, you need to contact me, leave a black feather outside the palace gates. My assistant will see it and will leave a note about our meeting schedule.” Kai said. Noah nodded. He wasn’t expecting such a method, but he guessed it was understandable. Those kinds of methods were typical among guilds that wanted to share information without drawing attention to themselves. Usually, they use colored fabrics or symbols and leave them at a certain location. But, using black feathers was certainly a new and unique method that Noah has never heard of until now. “I understand.” He said. Meanwhile, Tatiana grinned under her hood. Due to lack of time, she wasn’t able to explain and tell everything to Kai. She was worried when Noah kept on asking unexpected questions. But it was a relief that Kai managed to answer everything. Kai really did well today. I’ll make sure to treat him later. She thought to herself. --- reyankleyr
