Future Luna
I sat quietly on the couch at the bottom of my bed, slowly flipping through the pages of a book I’m very familiar with. My eye lids threatening to shut as boredom consumed me. Slowly, I rubbed the thick paper between my fingertips, hoping that time will somehow go faster. Boredom soon turned into irritation as my clocked ticked, echoing across my silent room. Why haven’t I thrown that clock out already? Ever since my seventeenth birthday my parents have been obsessed with trying to find my mate, so that one day I can take over and be Luna. The sooner the better in their eyes. I don’t know how they think by me reading the same book about mates over and over that he’ll suddenly appear. I personally think mates are a bunch of b**ls**t. I am perfectly capable of leading a pack on my own. It doesn’t matter anyway, being Luna has never appealed to me. I thought that’s why they had a son after me, so they could have a “strong leader”. Apparently not as they are still trying everything in their power to find my mate and make me Luna as soon as possible. Mind-link, from father: Sasha, meet me and your mother in my office immediately. I slowly removed my eyes from my book and twisted them into an eye roll. Duty calls, I guess. I forced the book shut and shoved it into a narrow draw, directly under where I had been sitting. My arms slumped to my side lifting my petite framed body to my feet. Although I am extremely small for a wolf, don’t be fooled as I am definitely not weak. I brushed my chestnut hair behind my shoulders as I made my way to my bedroom door, slowly twisting my shining gold door knob. I took a last deep breath before swinging open the door. Wooden floor boards creaked under my feet as I dragged my legs down a very long hallway, leading to my fathers office. I have never liked the hunger green walls. To my surprise the door was already open and my parents were stood by the desk, staring at me. My father has always had an extremely intimidating aura, I’ve been told by many that’s where I got it from. Come in and sit. My mother said in a welcoming manner. She has always been such a kind soul. Makes me wonder how she was mated with my father. I glanced back at my father and he seemed slightly annoyed. I say slightly because my father is extremely hard to read, but I can somewhat guess what he’s feeling because of how alike we are. I hesitated for a moment but gave in and sat down like my mother had asked. What have I done now? I asked, slouched in the leather armchair my father keeps just a few steps away from his desk. It’s not what you have done, more like what you haven’t done. My father spat as he drew his gaze from me and to the window at the side of the room. What is that supposed to mean? I raised one eyebrow in confusion and pushed myself up until I was sat up straight. What your father was supposed to say, was most wolves find their mate between fist turning seventeen and their nineteenth birthday. You are twenty and still haven’t found your mate. My mother said side eyeing my father for the start of her sentence, before softening her gaze as her eyes met mine. What a shame, I guess Miles will have to take over. He’s just turned seventeen, let’s hope he’ll have more luck than me. A smirk formed on my face as I spoke those words, but I could sense my father was not happy with my statement. Miles becoming Alpha has crossed my parents mind once or twice, but as soon as the idea pops into their heads they come to their senses. See, my brother is incredibly irresponsible and can barely take care of himself. I honestly don’t think he would’ve survived this far if he didn’t have Charlotte attached to his hip making sure he stays out of trouble. Although she has a major obsession with my brother, I have to be grateful for that. I’m joking, jeez. I said, rolling my ice blue eyes and sliding back down into the chair. My fathers death stare only intensified after my obvious sarcastic remark. Anyway, we have decided to throw a party in the next few weeks dedicated to finding your mate! She spoke with such excitement but all I could do was stare as I processed what she just said. Anger started to bubble up inside of me ready to explode on anyone and everyone but all that came out of my mouth was. What? I was very good with keeping myself collected no matter the situation or what I was feeling. Guess that’s a reason they think I’d suit the Luna role so much. Isn’t it exciting? You will finally find your mate and take over as Luna! My mother was almost visibly shaking with excitement but I was feeling the complete opposite. Dread. Why would they do this behind my back? I raised myself to my feet as I took a deep breath. I’m going for a run. I said as emotionless as possible, I didn’t want to hurt my mothers feelings but I was incredibly angry that they didn’t ask me what I wanted first. If they want me to be Luna they’d have to let me make decisions for myself. Although I tried to hide how I felt, I could tell my mother could tell. As soon as those words left my mouth her face dropped. Alright Sash, have fun. I could tell she felt guilty but I also knew her well enough to know no matter how guilty she felt, she would not cancel the party. I paced out of the room not wanting to be there any longer and made my way to the front door. I grabbed the stone cold door handle and pulled open the heavy, oak wooden door. I took a deep breathe and made my way to the forest a few yards from my home. I wish I had just stayed at home.
