season 4 chapter 3

Two days later, they arrived at the grand hotel. It had changed—restored to dazzling luxury, with crystal chandeliers and polished marble floors, crowds of guests and soft music drifting through the halls. But as they walked down the long corridor toward the suite where they had met, Aliyah felt as if time had folded in on itself. The carpet was the same deep blue, the walls the same soft cream, the shape of every doorway exactly as she remembered it. And there it was—Room 307. The very door she had pushed open, drunk and heartbroken and desperate, all those years ago. Damian reached out and turned the handle. It swung open easily, silent and smooth. Inside, the room was beautiful, bright and airy now—but the layout was unchanged. There, by the wall, stood the same bedside table where the lamp had stood. There, the large bed where he had lain, suffering and alone. But waiting for them inside was not an empty room. Standing near the window was a woman in elegant black, her hair silver and sharp, her face carved with lines of pride and bitterness. Beside her stood a younger man—tall, cold-eyed, with the same dark Vance features, yet twisted by greed and resentment. “Welcome,” the woman said, her voice cool and sharp as glass. “I am Selene. Head of the line you pushed aside. And this is my grandson, Julian.” Damian stepped in front of Aliyah and Gabriel, shielding them with his body, his posture tense and ready. “Why have you done all this? Why threaten us, haunt us, send messages to a child?” Selene smiled, but there was no warmth in it. She walked slowly toward them, her eyes fixed on Aliyah. “Because everything you have—you stole it. You, a girl with nothing, who stumbled in by accident. You turned our destiny upside down. You broke the chain of suffering… and in doing so, you broke our claim. For centuries, our branch bore the heaviest burden, and held the truest right to lead. And you—with a single moment of foolish kindness—gave it all to him. To the weakling who was never meant to survive, let alone rule.” She turned to point to the wall, where a great, ancient tapestry hung—hidden before, now revealed. It showed the history of their bloodline, and at the very center, two doors stood facing each other: one leading toward light, one toward shadow. “The prophecy never said love alone would win,” Selene said, her voice rising, ringing with certainty. “It said: Only when the wrong choice is made freely, and the right choice is proven true… will the cycle end. You think you won because you opened the wrong door? No. You won only because you chose to stay. But now… we give you the chance to choose again.” Julian stepped forward, holding out two small, heavy keys. “Two doors stand before you now,” he said. “One leads back to your life here, your wealth, your name, everything you have built. But to keep it… you must give up what made it possible. You must leave the truth behind, and let the old ways return. The other door leads away from everything—no fortune, no title, no place in history… but it keeps only what truly belongs to you.” Selene leaned closer, her eyes burning. “Choose now, Aliyah. Will you keep what you gained by chance… or will you hold fast to what you earned by love?” Damian looked at her, his hand finding hers, their fingers lacing tight. He did not hesitate. “There is only one choice we ever made,” he said clearly, loud and strong. “And it was not about doors or fortunes or fate. It was about us.”
